Default The Official Nintendo Wii Thread

WHo here has a nintendo Wii

ACCORDING TO WIKIPEDIA
The Wii (pronounced as the pronoun we, IPA: [wiː]) is the fifth home video game console released by Nintendo. The console is the direct successor to the Nintendo GameCube. Nintendo states that its console targets a broader demographic than that of Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's PlayStation 3,[3] but it competes with both as part of the seventh generation of gaming systems.
A distinguishing feature of the console is its wireless controller, the Wii Remote, which can be used as a handheld pointing device and can detect motion and rotation in three dimensions. Another is WiiConnect24, which enables it to receive messages and updates over the Internet while in standby mode.[4]
Nintendo first mentioned the console at the 2004 E3 press conference and later unveiled the system at the 2005 E3. Satoru Iwata revealed a prototype of the controller at the September 2005 Tokyo Game Show.[5] In the 2006 E3, the console won the first of several awards.[6] By December 8, 2006, it completed its launch in four key markets.
Standard Features Of The Wii
WII REMOTE
The Wii Remote is a controller that uses a combination of accelerometers and infrared detection (from an array of LEDs inside the Sensor Bar) to sense its position in 3D space. This design allows users to control the game using physical gestures as well as traditional button presses. The controller connects to the console using Bluetooth, and features rumble and an internal speaker. The Wii Remote can connect to other devices through a proprietary port at the base of the controller. The device bundled with the Wii retail package is the Nunchuk unit, which features an accelerometer and a traditional analog stick with two trigger buttons. In addition, an attachable wrist strap can be used to prevent the player from unintentionally dropping or throwing the Wii Remote. In response to incidences of strap failures, Nintendo is offering a free stronger replacement for all straps.[42]

WII MENU
The Wii Menu operating system interface is designed around the concept of television channels. Separate channels are graphically displayed in a grid and are navigated using the pointer capability of the Wii Remote. It is possible to change the arrangement of the channels by holding down the A and B buttons. There are six primary channels: the Disc Channel, Mii Channel, Photo Channel, Wii Shop Channel, Forecast Channel, and News Channel. The Forecast Channel was released on December 19, 2006.[59] The News Channel was released on January 26, 2007.[60] Additional channels are available for download from the Wii Shop Channel and also appear with each Virtual Console title. The Everybody Votes Channel was released on February 13, 2007.[61] The full version of the Internet Channel was released on April 11, 2007 and will be free if downloaded before the end of June. After June, a fee of 500 Wii Points will be required for purchase.[62] In June 2007 Nintendo announced a new service called WiiWare. The service will allow small and large developers to create their own games that can be bought through the Wii Shop Channel with Wii Points.[63]

BACKWARDS CAPABILTIY
The Wii console is backward compatible with all official Nintendo GameCube software, as well as Nintendo GameCube Memory Cards and controllers. Compatibility with software is achieved with the slot-loading drive's ability to accept Nintendo GameCube Game Discs. The console supports progressive-scan output in 480p-enabled Nintendo GameCube titles. The Wii is also compatible with the GameCube Action Replay, which will work with GameCube games. Peripherals can be connected via a set of four GameCube controller ports and two Memory Card slots concealed by removable flip-open panels.[1] A GameCube controller is required to play GameCube titles, as neither the Wii Remote nor the Classic Controller functions in this capacity. A Nintendo GameCube Memory Card is also necessary to save, as the Wii internal flash memory will not save GameCube games.
Backward compatibility is limited in some areas. Online and LAN-enabled features for Nintendo GameCube titles are unavailable on the Wii, as the console lacks serial ports for the Broadband Adapter and Modem Adapter. The Wii uses a proprietary port for video output and is therefore incompatible with Nintendo GameCube composite video, S-Video, and component video cables. The console also lacks Game Boy Player support

I have one too. I just played it today as a matter of fact. I don't really play it that much though, and unfortunately, Manhunt 2 will be posponed due to the graphic nature of the game, but that's a story for another day. So what games does everyone have?

hehe...not many. Zelda (which I never play) Wii Sports (duh) Excite Truck, and Wario Ware. I want to try Call Of Duty 3, but my friend who seems to know everything about anything, says it is not that great. Still wanna try it though.

I never play Zelda either. I'm stuck at this one part, but that happens with every Zelda I play. Excite Truck is sooo much fun. It's the only game I've been playing lately. I also have three other games that I am stuck in. Trauma Center: Second Opinion, Super Paper Mario, and Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz. I also have Madden '07 which I absolutely can't stand. Then there's WiiSports and WiiPlay. Oh yeah, and Super Swing Golf and Wario Ware: Smooth Moves. I like both of those. The games that i really want are: Resident Evil 4, Mario Party 8, and Manhunt 2. I also can't wait for the new Super Smash Bros. game!

I can't wait until the Harry Potter game comes out! What's better than using your Wiimote as a WAND!!! How cool is that! I have Pirates 3 and it's a bit tiresome, but who said fighting off villian pirates was easy?!

My brother plays Zelda, so it's not like we wasted any money

I too, can not wait for Super Smash Brothers Brawl! We have the two previous ones, both are still fun to play.

sidenote: will they ever release Rush 2 or Demolition Derby 64 for the virtual console? both are N64 games, and they were so much fun. I would really like to play them again.

Nintendo unveiled a "Zapper" type light gun specially for the Wii last E3. It was on display.

Got one myself, bought one of the first ones by getting it the first day it came out. And I've been enjoying it ever since.

There was an article in our newspaper today about how the Wii is STILL sold out everywhere. I am really happy for this. When the NES came out, it was a really cool thing. By the time the N64 was released, it seemed to be as popular as the first PS. No one I talked to like the GC, they all played their PS2's and Xbox's. Now, the Wii is WAY ahead of everyone, and they needed it. Yay for the rebirth of good videogaming from Nintendo!
