Ok. Seeing as how the fifth movie and last book in the series will be released this month, I felt it was the appropriate time to start a Harry Potter thread. Here you can discuss your favorite characters, books, and movies. Also, feel free to discuss how you think the series might end, but if this thread lasts until the seventh book comes out, please don't give away anything major from it. Thanks.

I don't type too much, but I think I could go on and on with my post.
Favorite characters: Professor McGonagall, Ginny Weasley, and most of all Albus Dumbledore. The power and knowledge that Dumbledore possesses along with his modest and calm nature just make him such an enjoyable character to read about. I was definitely upset by what happened in the Half Blood Prince, but I'm sure that he'll have some role in Deathly Hallows. Favorite villain: Yes I know, this should be along with characters.. but I really must say that I just LOVED to dislike Dolores Umbridge. Anyone who's read the Order of the Phoenix should know what I mean. Favorite books: Definitely the Prisoner of Azkaban and the Half Blood Prince. I can't honestly say why I loved the two, other than the great feeling I had after reading each of them and the strong desire to reread each of them immediately. The only book I found myself disliking was the Order of the Phoenix which was most likely because of Harry's temper throughout the book. I am rereading it, though, and must say it wasn't as bad as I thought it was when I first read it.. Favorite movie: Right now, I feel that all of the movies have lacked so much compared to the books. So, just to give out a favorite movie, I would choose the first movie for introducing us to the world we had only imagined before. As for what I think will happen in the Deathly Hallows, I had once speculated that Harry would be revealed as a Horcrux.. but after reading the Half Blood Prince again, I no longer think it possible.. I think this is the longest post I EVER typed.. so I'll end it now. 12 days until the last book, everyone!

Yay! I feel honored to be responsible for your longest post ever typed. My favorite book is Prisoner of Azkaban. I just finished reading Half-Blood Prince for the second time last night, and I'm still not really a big fan of it. Goblet of Fire and Order of the Pheonix are excellent, but not quite as good as Prisoner of Azkaban. My least favorite of the books is Chamber of Secrets.
As for the movies, I like the first two a lot. They basically stuck to the books, even though some things are changed. The worst movie in my opinion is Prisoner of Azkaban. They really messed up my favorite book, so I was upset. My favorite characters are Fred and George. I also like Hermione, Hagrid, Ginny, and Neville. I also like Viktor Krum. Draco is one of my least favorite characters and I hope nothing good happens to him in the last book. Same goes for Snape. I was thinking that Dumbledore has a horcrux of his own out there somewhere, but after reading the Half-Blood prince again, I fear that Dumbledore might really be gone for good. I can't wait for the last book. I have already pre-ordered it from Amazon, and I just bought my tickets for the movie's opening night (well afternoon since the night-time shows were sold out) yesterday. IMAX 3-D, baby!

Ah yeah, I was totally disappointed by the third movie. It did no justice whatsoever to one of my favorite books.
And the fourth movie.. goodness the final challenge was butchered! It was quite sad to watch it.. I hope I can watch the movie on Wednesday... I have to study up with my decathlon team before we can head out and watch the movie, if there are any tickets.

I love the books, but can't stand how badly they butchered the movies....it's understandable that they can't make a 5 hour movie, but the writers should at least follow the books a little more closely.
I sat down and watched the first 3 movies again this weekend, I'm hoping to watch the 4th before I get a chance to go and see the 5th movie on Saturday. In regards to the movies, if you are able to block out the book, and just watch the movie knowing nothing about the books....I think they were done very good....especially the 4th one. As far and characters obvisouly Dumbledore and the whole Weasley Family are my favorites....I can't stand Draco. |

Hmm.. The movie comments here are interesting. Personally, Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite of the movies. I never really understood why people always say that it left a ton of stuff out from the books. Maybe it did things differently (Trelawney's prophecy, Snape discovering Marauder's Map), but I can't remember any plots they left out besides Quidditch and some Marauder backstory. Though, the first two movies are just painful. "It's not Hogwarts without you, Hagrid!!" Ugh! My only major gripe with the movies is how badly they messed up some of the characters. I don't see any of book Dumbledore in movie Dumbledore or book Hermione in movie Hermione... :/
But Order of the Phoenix looks amazing!! I can't wait. For the books, my favorite character (besides Harry, of course) is definitely Luna! She's hilarious, but I'm really afraid that she'll die in DH... Her character does seem to have a lot of ties to death.. My close favorites are Hermione, Lupin, Sirius, and Ron. And the character I hate the most is Ginny.. Sorry to people who like her. Maybe if she sacrifices herself for Harry, I'll bump her up a bit. Maybe before Umbrige? That romance with Harry did come out of nowhere, too. I hope it's just Cho pt2. |

I hope they don't kill Harry off...lol.
My Favorite book was Goblet of Fire, but I never really cared for the movies. My mom and I are staying up to midnight to get then new book. I cant wait! Except, last time, people were a little TOO obsessed. Ever watched A Christmas Story? Reme, ber the little kid with goggles and started screaming when he met Santa? Well, there was a kid, dressed up as a broom, that looked JUST like him. It was a little scary, but I guess I shouldn't be talking since we are so obsessed woth DL.

I'm seeing the movie tonight at 10:15, I really hope it's better than the previous two *eye muscle twitches*.
I absolutely despise the "new" Dumbledore that's been in the previous two movies. I think he makes Dumbledore seem harsh, rough, and rude to Harry, when in fact Dumbledore is a kind, calm person who doesn't "yell" at Harry all the time the actor just makes it seem as though Dumbledore almost hates Harry, which is completely not true. I just don't think the man knows what Dumbledore is really about, and I highly doubt he's read the books, I'm sure he could do a much better job, if only he understood how Dumbledore is supposed to act. I thought Richard Harris did an excellent job in the first two movies, he played Dumbledore very, very well. It's just unfortunate that he passed away before he could continue to be Dumbledore in the rest of the movies. As for the books, my very favorite has got to be Half Blood Prince. I thought that one was by far the most entertaining, and (thankfully) Harry stopped being a selfish boy with a nasty temper (perhaps he went to anger management classes? Haha). WARNING SPOILERS I also do not think that Dumbledore is dead, it took much reading and re-reading the book to come to that conclusion, by the way. After reading for the thousandth time I realized that when people are killed by Avada Kedavra they are not "thrown" violently backward, like Dumbledore was out of the tower, they merely fall backward, dead which made me wonder a little bit....."Perhaps Dumbledore really isn't dead, Avada Kedavra usually doesn't have those particular effects," then of course I went to the internet researching other peoples theories about Dumbledore's, in my opinion, untimely demise. I came across a website that had many thorougly convincing articles about why they thought Dumbledore was not dead, and now I'm quite sure that he is indeed, still alive. Maybe I'm just in denial, but I secretly hope all of my "opinions" and "theories" are correct about his death. Least favorite book is of course Order of the Pheonix, I simply cannot stand Harry's anger. Last edited by bbt931; 07-11-2007 at 04:27 PM. |

Actually, in OOTP movie, the new Dumbledore seems to finally have settled into his character. Also, on the subject of Dumbledore, J.K. Rowling stated in an interview sometime ago that Dumbledore will not "pull a Gandalf" (i.e. he will not miracuosly come back), so Harry is on his own from now on, which should make for an interesting storyline.
