Has anyone ever used Netflix before? If so, A) what do you think of it, and B) what movies have you seen via it? My family and I are using it and we love it, as it's a great way to introduce me to classic movies, which is what we've seen mostly (ranging mostly from the 1930s to the 1960s)! Here is a complete list of all the movies (and then some) we've gotten from it as of late (in order):
And our latest movie now is "The Philadelphia Story". Mind you, I've not seen all of the movies that we've gotten thus far (including Sweeney Todd). So anyway, what have you seen if you used Netflix?

I had it. As services go, I have no complaints. I quit because I have so little leisure time that the last thing I want to do when I'm not working is being plugged into the TV. maybe if I were more of a movie buff I'd get more out of it.

I haven't tried Netflix, but have been a member of Blockbuster online for 2 years and love it! I've found with Blockbuster--and I'm sure the same is true with Netflix--that any old movie I'm looking for can be found online even though not available in stores. I also love it that everytime I return a movie to Blockbuster, I get a free rental. For the cost and convenience, I am really happy with what I get.

Netflix is pretty awesome. And now they have movies online, so you can watch movies on your computer, for no extra charge. We just plug a laptop into the TV, and an audio input into the surround sound, and the quality is just a little less of a DVD. They also have every season of "the office" and "dr. who" on there as well!! We've gotten something like 120 movies through the mail, and a bunch more online.

There's some good movies there!
3. Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House - Cary Grant and Myrna Loy?! Classic comedy! 4. A Shot In the Dark - Peter Sellers at his Cleusou silliest! 5. Bye Bye Birdie - Paul Lynde made my day! 6. Love Affair - Really? The movie Annette Benning and Warren Beatty??? "An Affair To Remember" is SO much better. If only for it's movie tie-in to "Sleepless In Seattle" and the world's goofiest movie quote "Winter must be cold for those with no warm memories... and we've already missed the spring". and then Cary Grant goes "hmmph" like he's agreeing with her. CLASSIC! 8. Gigi "Thank Heavens For Little GIrls" and "I remember it well" are two great numbers! 10. Arsenic and Old Lace - hmmm ANOTHER Cary Grant classic... am I detecting a theme? This and "Bringing Up Baby" are his two classic slapstick best. He says more with a glance or a simple hand movement then most comedic actors today can say in a whole movie. 12. Bringing Up Baby - oh, look! "Bringing Up Baby!" Katherine Hepburn... makes ME growl like a leopard! 13. Houseboat - yet another Cary Grant... has it's good parts, but it's one of his last comedies. He was having an extramarital affair with Sophia Loren at the time this was shot (and before it was filmed, too!). 14. Pee-wee's Big Adventure I just watched this one the other night. Didn't mean to, but it was on and it's just SO good that I got sucked in! 18. Ocean's Eleven (1960 version) Possibly one of the worst movies made in the 60's. Certainly a waste of celluloid. 19. Robin and the Seven Hoods - someone got on a Sinatra kick... I can't blame 'em, but there are FAR finer Sinatra flicks out there than these two! 21. Mr. Smith Goes To Washington - Starring one of my favorite actors... and I don't mean Jimmy Stewart (although he's on the list, too). I mean Jean Shepherd. A great morality lesson in a comedy... who woulda' thunk it? Philadelphia Story ... WOW... Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn (at her "yar"-est) AND Jimmy Stewart? You knew that "The Philadelphia Story" was WRITTEN for Katherine Hepburn to perform on Broadway, didn't you? It achieved such great success, she brought it to Hollywood. You have GOT to rent "High Society" which is "Philadelphia Story" turned into a musical with the songs written by American legend Cole Porter. Stars Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Grace Kelly AND Louis Armstrong! Grace Kelly's last movie. She literally finished filming and flew to Monaco to be married. "High Society", "It Takes A Thief" (also with Cary Grant!) and "Rear Window" (also with Jimmy Stewart) are three exceptionally fine films and show Grace Kelly off at her sexy, classy best. I saw most of the films listed here at a real movie theater in Palo Alto. I miss that place dearly. "The Stanford Theater". p.s. I've been a netflix member for almost 10 years now. I LOVE Netflix! |

We love Netflix as well, we've been a 6 at a time member for a while now....but they are taking away the best feature....they are taking away the ability to have profiles. Currently my wife has a queue with 4 assigned to it, and I have one with 2 at a time. This allowed me to queue up TV Series and stuff like that without having to rearrange the queue all the time.....but we just got an email that as of August 1st....that feature is gone.

I've been a Netflix user for the past four years. It's awesome. Sure beats driving to the rental store (I'm a former Assistant Manager for Blockbuster). I've had my fill of going to the rental store, believe me!

Just about every major new release, I've watched from Netflix.
Rented a bunch of TV series from them too....I've just started "Rescue Me" season 1.

In addition to more movies than you can shake a stick at, we've also got some TV shows, too, including the first two seasons of "Barney Miller", the first season of "The Greatest American Hero", the second season of "The Dick Van Dyke Show" (we actually have the first season for keeps) and random episodes of "The Twilight Zone" and "The Carol Burnett Show".

I usually rent whatever's just coming out on that Tuesday that I really want to see. I just make sure to have a small queue and to return so that it arrives on Monday so they'll ship the latest release that day. Occasionally I'll pick up some older movie that Mrs. DaddyB and I happened to mention, or think the kids are ready to see (like the Indy Jones movies).
I've got the movies on laserdisc or on DVD already, but almost all of our stuff is in storage and it's easier to rent it than to climb over our while life to get to the DVD boxes. I'll probably be selling my laserdiscs and players pretty soon. About 500 movies. I'm trying to lighten my load. Five months of living with very little has really shown us that we're carrying around too much 'stuff' (aka JUNK) from house to house. O/T Will probably be selling off a lot of my Disney collection too. Complete PVC playsets from just about every Disney movie. Unopened (and opened) sets of McDonalds toys from the past 15 years... stuff like that. Oh, the cool Villains collectible dolls and the die-cast ride vehicles, too. Just too much stuff in boxes that never make it out of the boxes. |

Netflix. Godsend. Nuff said.
Seriously, I live in a family of five, we've used the service for years, have had no complaints (one DVD came unplayable, and another was in the wrong sleeve, and they sent replacements ASAP). Then again, I live near one of the distribution centers, so there's only a day's turnaround for me, others may have up to a week (and I'll confess, sometimes I've waited almost that long if I send it at the end of the week). As for what we've gotten... well, family of five, the variety's decent for us. Mainly new releases, my dad's been into documentary/Planet Earth-type movies for a while. My sisters and I occasionally request older titles (aka the Jean Cocteau black-and-white Beauty and the Beast. Francais all the way, baby!) The selection's good, and you can browse it without logging in, which is always a good perk. And the rate is monthly, so the only thing that keeping your movies longer deprives you of is the next movie in your queue, and I've horded some rentals for almost a whole months before sending them back, but with a three-movie plan, it doesn't matter too much. -Ara O/T DaddyB, what'cha got? I may be willing to buy some of it.
