Default Nanny McPhee

I've been meaning to post this thread starter weeks ago. But, I always forgot. Anyway, don't you feel as though Universal Pictures (I think it's from them) got the idea of Nanny McPhee from Disney's Mary Poppins? I mean, both Mary and McPhee are nannies and they could do magic. What are your thoughts and do you agree with me?

yes, there are definitely similarities there. a nanny comes to the rescue of a troubled family. but there are differences as well. Nanny Mcphee herself is very different from Mary Poppins. her whole point is to teach the children at least that outwardly appearances are deceiving you know? There are differences, and that's good. Many movies borrow similar storylines from other movies, but in the end they become somewhat original.

Nanny McPhee, which I have not seen, is based on the collected tales of Nurse Matilda, by Christianna Brand. Son while the books may have been inspired by PL Travers (whether they were or not is pure speculation), the movie was inspired by the books, NOT Mary Poppins. If Universal wanted to rip off MP, why would they wait 40 years to do it?

Has anyone here read P.L. Travers Mary Poppins books. The Disney movie is very different from those books. Mary Poppins is alot like all the other old nannies (except for the magic, of course). She dumpy and middle aged and crotchety and says "Hrumph!" alot. Bette Davis was originally considered for the roll, but the Sherman Bros. cringed at the idea of her singing their songs! (Or her singing at all!), and suggested casting the opposite by hiring Julie Andrews.

I hated Nanny McPhee! It was so stupid. They ripped off the Mary Poppins story from it and i just really hated it. Let's sue them for everything they've touched!!!

I have read them (a LONG time ago). Even as a kid I felt disjointed when Mary in the movie turned out to be so pretty and "sweet" compared to The Real Mary Poppins.

I didn't know there was a book of Mary Poppins before the movie. Then again, I don't know a lot of things about literature.

Sincerely, a brother of a half-demon,

Those books are very fun, but definitely have creepy moments, too. For example Mary Poppins takes the children to Mrs. Corey's sweets shop to buy lady fingers, and the Corey daughters break the fingers off their hands and wrap them up.

That's not very nice to say about Nanny Mc Phee because when I saw it seemed as if It was completly opposite of Mary Poppins.
I'm not going to use names of who is being naughty!!
