Default My own Haunted mansion

Well after going to the park on the 29th (when HM was still closed) I was online and decided to check out doombuggies.com. After reading all the behind the scenes stuff I started thinking about doing my own Haunted Mansion Homage in my front yard. What sparked this was when one of the pages loaded it played a clip of the madame Leota scene complete with audio and having just seen how most of the HM effects are really simple..... well long story short me and my friend are gonna try and recreate some stuff from the ride using forced perspective and miniatures, very low tech stuff so I was looking for suggestions on what exactly to do for my HM me and my friend have some really good ideas but it dosen't hurt to have more and heck who better to ask than a whole lotta fellow Disney fans.

OK well thats it. So What do ya think? Ideas? suggestions? comments?

Mods, please move this if it is in the wrong place wasn't sure where to put it.

Depends what you have available I've hidden little speakers outside my house before and played various sound effects and music and stuff. The funnest houses though are ones that make getting your candy interesting. But if it's still gonna be out of the front door, make the walk up to there fun.

well this is what i did for holloween lastyear: i got a pic of the bride from HM and anamated it( basicly just the heart beating and glowing ) and put it on my big screen tv then moved the tv to a window in front of my house so it could be seen from outside. then used black and blue lights, fog machine, cardboard and foam tombstones sprayed with that spray piant that looks like stone, strobe lights, lights that look like candles, and the HM soundtrack that i edited with my computer and took out the words and just left some of the music. thinking of doing it this year again! if i dont do HM then i might do PotC!

That sounds so cool! Where the heck do you guys live?! All the people around here don't decorate their houses, except for maybe a pumpkin on their porch to let you know they have candy.

Me and Zip did peppers ghost and also these pictures that the eyes seem to follow you as you move past. It was great, I can't wait for more little kids screams this year!

Me and my friends are using peppers ghosts as well as doing a little bit of the madame Leota part ya know wit the glowing trumpets and the bell that rings. the hardest thing we want to do is the hanging ghost host but I need some scrim and some way to black everything out so it works but we most likely wont do that untill next Halloween!

Pictures and illustrations would help, I'm still hazy on how to make a peppers ghost. I'm thinking if I can do so, I'll project my ghost onto my front window. If only I had some misters and repetitive motion instruments to make pop-up ghosts in the yard...

I'm having a hard time understanding the peppers ghost thing as well! As far as misters have ya thought about using a fog machine right now there pretty cheap and as far as repetitive motion instumemts you could always go low tech the easyest way I've found to do this is just use a box for the ghosts to pop out of (decorate the box,ya know like a tombstone or something) put a hole in the box big enough for a broom stick to fit through, buy some long, strong dowels put them through the hole attatch the ghost to the dowel and step on the other end! the wonders of leverage. the only set back is someone has to step on them to make them work so i'm shure theres better way to do this but this is pretty cheap and easy.

You can attach a long string to the 'lever' and get it inside your house so that someone can pull it, and maybe hit a sound effect along the way , when someone approaches. =D

LOL You could alway have like pullies and rope and have a ghost hang on one end and have him hide behind the tombstone untill the time is right and then pull on the cord and have him pop up. Have a black light so that his face glows so he is scary when he pops up. Muwhahah. Fog is also a cool thing to have to keep the enviroment scary.

Ok, this year we revamped the outside of our house and now have railings and more posts, so i cant do th regular web, today the 3rd i set up my lights so i now have them hidden <yah i am totally into the regular house in the daytime but transformes into spooky house at night> so i try and hide all my props where you can see them at night when they light up, but in the day without moving anything they quietly disapeer, it sounds corny but it looks awesome. Right now the walls are bathed in red light and the railing and porch front is in a green wash, then the top on the overhang is accented in a purple eerie almost blacklight color. one of my candles with a 1.5 volt bulb got too hot, softened the pvc pipe it was in, but thats the only problem. flicker bulbs commin soon for those anyway, now i need fog fluid for my two foggers and blacklight bulbs, the normal stuff to get the show up and running, our house is truly just like the haunted mansion, in fact, the theme this year is, the haunted mansion. amaore fun than scary but more scary than normal.
