Mickey Mouse Monopoly (No not a game)

Ok mty teacher was talking to me about a documentary that is out called "Mickey Mouse Monopoly" and it is about corportate Disney. The man that made this documentary film wrote a book as well, and he was soo angry that he had to get permission from Disney to have Mickey Mouse stuck in a Mouse trap on the cover of his book. My teacher is a huge Disney fan herself, and she said she was disgusted by this movie. Not with Disney, but the person that made it and the people who were against what disney is and does. She said it mentioned the " Beauty and the Beast" is telling young girls that it is ok to be in Abusive Relationships, because the beast is portrayed as agressive! Can you believe that?? Has anyone eles heard of this movie? Has anyone seen it? My teacher said that she was soo angry and frustrated that people took all of this way too far. I couldnt believe it myself, and now I have to see that movie. Please post any comments about this in this thread, and please if anyone has seen it, please let me know where I can find a copy.

You know, it floors me what people will get out into the world today. If anyone has a burr up their keester, it's off to get it published, printed, pressed, and copyrighted.

What's sad about it is that people will believe anything without getting the real facts anymore. Some random whackjob from off the street will tell them the sky used to be purple, and someone will actually believe it!

Hey, the way I look at it is this....people have their own opinions on things and we as fans of the Disney Company don't have to read, watch, listen to, etc. these idiots and their crappy opinions. We do have choices in America and if you don't like Disney and their values, don't buy their stuff, don't go to their parks, don't see their movies.
The funniest thing about these types of people is that even though they write these books, I will bet that they STILL go see Disney movies, still visit the park, still buy Disney stuff. If they watch ABC at anytime....DISNEY! If they tune into ESPN for a show.....DISNEY.
Choices. It's all about choices. DON'T give them more publicity than they deserve by WANTING to see their crap.....that's what fuels these people!

Well, slightly related but nothing this guy was getting at... Disney is continually part of efforts by several companies to get copyright law extensions to keep their older works under their control and from entering public domain. Things like steamboat willy were supposed to go enter public domain in 2000... It's not a monopoly but there certainly are some debatable issues. Copyright protections are having enough trouble being patched up with current material as it is though heh.

Just because somebody wanted to voice their opinions
they got to make a film and force their own views down
the throats of the population, which from your discription
was their complaint that disney was doing the same exact thing.

Its not that I want to see this movie to support the director, I just want to see this movie to see what the guy is saying. To me, Disney is the only thing is this world that has innocence left. Is music innocent? No. Is television? No. Are most movies out there? No. Thats why I have made the decision to raise my daughter around the wonder, and innocence of what disney produces. Minus those hidden parts in Disney films made by disgruntled animators, I think Disney and what it has done over time is still wholesome, and something everyone can enjoy. Sure it is a money pot, but what corporation out there isnt? This guy is just angry for some reason, and he is entitled to his own opinon, just like you and I are. Everyone doesnt have to buy into Disney. Its a choice. I just want to see this, and see his point of view. My teacher said it made her soo angry, and I know it will make me angry too, but still I like to hear someones opinion on things, and this one I can't wait to see! Has anyone ever seen this film?

So I guess his next book about "beauty and the beast" will be about King Kong! lol. Same thing, just not as much money for him to make off a name and that is all that so-called writer is about, the money. He won't get a nickel from me lol.

Since I am such a Disney freak, I was looking up books at the college library one day. I came across about 5 books that were anti-Disney, and one ( I believe it was called "The Mouse that Roared" was so disgustingly anti-Disney that I couldn't even finish reading it. The content was very similar to what you are describing in the movie you are referring to, such as that all Disney heroines are simpering weaklings, and all the heros are brutish thugs that drag the women by their hair. At first I was really mad reading this book, but then I felt sorry for the author because he must have serious issues if he has to pick apart Disney movies and look for "hidden" messages within them. I now prefer to ignore those who have to pick anything Disney apart and find fault with it. Since our society is slowly trying to kill innocence by what broadcast on news, sitcoms, and radio, I will hunker down in Neverland with my Disney Cd's, movies, and stuffed Mickey Mouse and I know I'll be happier for it.

I remember when I was looking for some pictures of Mickey Mouse, I found one with Mickey in a mouse trap (which I believe is the same thing you're talking about). Like Protostars said, it sounds like a Michael Moore film and boy do I hate Moore (I had to watch a documentary by Moore in school where they violently and brutally killed innocent little bunnies ).

Sometimes I think it's funny when people bash Disney. I mean, have you ever read what these people write? It is SO far out and insane that it's almost funny. These people seriously have NO lives if they play the audio to Disney movies backwards to find "hidden codes" about sex, violence, etc. They all have very...Umm..."vivid" imaginations.
