Default Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays?

Do you think that people should say Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays?

I think people should be free to say whatever they darn well feel like saying. There is free speech in this country after all last time I checked.

That being said,
MERRY CHRISTMAKKUHWANZAA!!!!

I realize I left some out, but I don't want to get to silly or anything.
And Matt, I agree with you, but it's sad that people seem too afraid to say what they truly want to say.

free speech in america....yes
free speech on VF....as long as it doesn't up set the mods

I think this has been debated here way too much and way too often.
can we just agree that everybody has there own opinion and let it go....
I don't need a poll to count how many people look toward one particular religion.
this site is Visions Fantastic...not Religions Fantastic.
lets get back on subject......DISNEYLAND!!!!!

Well, my post was along the lines of why do we even care? Everyone should just be free to say whatever they want without risk of fear of being criticized somehow. If I want to say Merry Christmas, I don't want atheists down my throat. If people are saying Happy Holidays because they've been forbidden against saying Merry Christmas, then their free speech rights have been violated IMO. If they're saying Seasons Greetings, Happy Holidays, Happy Chanukah, Merry Christmas, or in Ned's case "MERRY CHRISTMAKKUHWANZAA!!!!" because that's what they want to, then I say have at it. It's when they start denegrating one or the other that I'll start having problems with it.

If so then they've probably reached the point where they're looking for things to be offended by. Things offend me all the time, but since I'm a white Christian male, no one gives a flying hoot. If saying "Happy Holidays" offends them, maybe they can have the decency to think beyond themselves & return the well-wishing.

I honestly think there's a VERY small percentage of people that are actually offended by this stuff, for whatever reason.

And I agree, If someone wants to say Happy Holidays, I don't think there's a problem with that. It can be more appropriate in some cases.
What gets me is when employees at certain stores are forced to say it. It should be up to the person's discretion what they should say. If they lose a customer for a stupid reason like that, then so be it. They're probably losing more customers by having these rules in place.

I've been saying "Happy Holidays" for a while now, quite before this whole 'let's not offend anyone' kind of thing. Personally I think it suits better because if I won't see someone past January, I like to think of it that New Year's is the mix in my greeting. I also know people who celebrate two, three (let's keep counting) holidays during the season, usually because of their parents or spouses.

Besides, Christmas wouldn't be here without Saturnalia. So I guess we should wish everyone a Happy Saturnalia. And some other pagan traditions as well.

don't most people in america celebrate christmas anyways? and i'm not talking about about the Christian version, but rather the gift-giving version, which has no inclusion of Christ or his birth. i really do think that about 90%, if not more, of america has a christmas tree in their homes, and they celebrate the family and love of the christmas holiday. just cuz you celebrate christmas doesn't mean you're christian right? even Jews celebrate Christmas, just not with a Christian intention, and that's perfectl fine,

anyways, that's why i chose Merry Christmas, but really both phrases just mean spend your holidays well.
