Default It's all publicity

Notice the wording: honorary two-billionth guest This child was selected to be the honorary two-billionth guest Probably because she's an adorably cute child for publicity reasons. They may have wanted the event to be at the original Disneyland also for publicity reasons. Using the word honorary is Disney's way of subtlely admitting that she's not the actual two-billionth guest. There's probably some poor schmoe in a hotel room in Florida who has no idea that he's the actual two-billionth guest.

This is part of a tradition that goes back to opening day at Disneyland where Michael Schwartner and his cousin Christine Vess were pulled out of the line to be photographed with Walt Disney and were touted as the first guests to enter Disneyland. They were given lifetime passes. My roommate dated Michael Schwartner for awhile, and he always took her to Disneyland.

Anyway the actual first guest of Disneyland was a guy from long beach named Dave MacPherson. The Long Beach Press-Telegram had his picture in the paper, and the ticket he held was ticket #000002. #000001 was already sold to Roy Disney two days before.

It's all very exciting, but it's just publicity

I would trust Darkbeer's remarks. Besides the fact he is the pre-eminant Disneyland dork, HE WAS THERE TODAY (heck, I think he's there every day) and personally overheard things. If he says it, I'd beleive it.

I was the first person in line on May 5th, 2005... I even got interviewed on the news... but did I get pulled through the gates to meet with Michael Eisner and have my photo taken? NO. Some cute family they found that was close to the gates (not at) before they opened was ushered in... I don't KNOW that they were given lifetime passes, but I heard they did.

I am SURE they pulled this cute little girl and her family out of the line AT THE TICKET BOOTH (thus almost assuring that they weren't Annual Passholders) and asked her parents if they would be interested in all the hoopla.

There is no way that they could count the 2 billionth guest. The 2 billionth guest may not even happen for several months, or already happened several month back... it's all about marketing, kids!

Has anyone mentioned that the childs WHOLE FAMILY OF ELEVEN were ALL given lifetime passes??

Yeah for those wondering, darkbeer is just someone who frequents some other disneyland boards and posts very frequent picture updates(not so much for the "Wow" factor that a daddyb update does, just for a more straightforward update like "this is what's happening at the park today").

anyhoo, he's there at the park a lot and while of course people can be wrong he isn't someone who'd go out and lie about something he saw as far as i know so i don't fret about to quoting him :P

Family of 11: To Disney's credit they just gave away close a grand in ticket prices for one day's visit alone In other news, Paul Pressler apparently had a slight fall today when he sensed the presence of happiness at the expense of disneyland's bottom line.

Talking Big family reunion

Each of the 11 family members got a pass. I can't say for certain what they were given but the lifetime VIP pass Michael Schwartner had allowed him to bring up to 3 guests. So if each of them has one like that, they could hold a family reunion there if they wanted to.

haha! thats right! 3 x 11 is 33, so they could have 33 people coming into disneyland free!

thats amazing that they have 11 kids. wonder if its a religious thing or they just really like kids. my softball coach has like 20 kids. because she just loves them, i guess.

Chock one up for us Coloradoans! But let's not forget the fact that they used a family that wasn't from either California or Florida. They are saving a lot more money giving them to people who can't go all the time.

Thank got it happend to a little girl as apposed to some 70 year old lady who would probably die in a few years. I would feel soo bad for her. I honestly think that the REAL 2 billionth guest was at some other part like disney studios or TDL. I think they just made it at DLR just for publicity. Because Disneyland WASNT the only park open at that time.

Cool honorary

You notice that all the news stories and materials say honorary two billionth guest? Not actual, honorary. I assume the accounting is on a per-day basis. There's probably no acurate way of knowing who the actual two billionth guest is.
