Thumbs up Loss of that Disney Magic

At both Disneyland and Disneyworld, they seem to be celebrating their older movies (musical films) with parades, shows, the animation building... It's obvious that Disney at least realizes that those older films are very beloved... why aren't they making more like them?

It was wonderful to grow up with.... I loved having a new big Disney musical come out every year.

Now we get nothing but computer animated anthropomorphic humor... which isn't funny the last time I checked. Does anyone else feel as strongly about the loss of the great art that was Disney movies?

I feel great sadness at the loss of the "old fashioned" hand drawn artwork and musical-esque movies. I think that some of the movies that Pixar has released were cute (like Monsters, Inc. and Finding Nemo for example), but they do not have that same Disney touch like the old movies do.

I hope that they would revert back to hand drawn movies, but that is very doubtful. Disney has to "keep up with the Jones'" so to speak, which is most likely why they're cranking out more CG movies. Personally, I don't like watching CG movies, but with the technology available, we're only going to see more and more of it.

yes they havent made a good drawn; musical; good movie for a while. but that doesn't mean they have to stop making the Pixar movies. the Pixar movies are great successes so it would be pretty stupid by Disney to stop making them. but I agree, I miss the good ol' fashion Disney movies that actualy made the Disney company successful.

I have an idea. What if we can get as many people from VF and other disney forums who feel the same way to be a part of your letter somehow.

How about if we all list our problems and create a letter then do a petition online and print it out and send it with the letter.

it's bad that we can't have those type of movies anymore. but we have entered an entirely new age in movies, and age that revolves around the computer. Because we are accustomed to seeing these awesome graphics created by computers, animation like that of Cinderella and Snow White no longer are ground-breaking like in the older days. Bottom line is that formula no longer works in theaters, and it probably never will again.

When you look at movies today, it's very apparent that computers are the future. Almost every movie out there in the theaters these days utilize the computer in some way. Others do it in a big way, while others use it for smaller jobs. But the point is even movies such as the upcoming Curious George (an animated film) use computers, so the old time animation (and for that matter animation itself) is slowly dying off.

As a member of the upcoming generation, i know that we are looking for the next thing to thrill us. And animation no longer can do that. That's why Disney doesn't make those films anymore: the public has moved on.

Honestly I can't say I agree with that. Not only were those "classic" movies better than the CGI movies. But they effected us ten times more on a personal level. You can't say that hand drawn movies have died off because they arn't even in the same genre. Plus if the public has moved on. Why do we all wan't them to come back?

^^you don't have to agree with me, but that's the truth of it. we here on the boards are not the public. i'm talking about the general public, and the general public has moved on. that is why Disney has shut down their animation department because animation movies no longer get money. it's just the truth of the matter.

And hand drawn movies have died off. And they are in the same genre as animation because they are animation. Animation is like the tree, and CGI, hand-drawn, and computer created are branches.

Besides, almost no animation is hand-drawn nowadays. Shows like Spongebob and movies like Curious George are created with the computer. The computer colors them and manipulates them. So really, authentic hand-drawn animation is more or less dead.

It's true that most animation companies have now switched to computer animation. Even Japanese animation, while it still has characteristics of hand drawn artwork, is now being done with computers.

However, I don't agree that the general public is in love with CGI and no longer like quality, hand drawn animation. I think that there are several other people who are upset by the shift, but there isn't much we can do about it. Regardless of whether we like it or not, the change is most likely inevitable.

I will still always love and appreciate the hard work that goes into complete hand drawn animation. I realize that CG also takes a lot of work (I do a little bit of it myself), but it doesn't have that same personal touch, quality or feeling.
