Since Disneyland turned 50 I've been wondering how old Knott's Berry Farm was since Cedar Fair claims it was America's first theme park. I went to the website and looked up it's history and found that claim didn't make much sense. Walt began developing Ghost Town in 1940 by brining in old buildings, there is no mention of rides till the 60's: Timber Mountain Log Ride (Inspiration for Splash Mountain) and Calico Mine Ride (Inspiration for Big Thunder Mountain) and Fiesta Village was added during this time, leaving only two themed areas. Then the Boardwalk in 1975, Camp Snoopy in 1983, Wild Water Wilderness in 1988 and Indian Trails in 1993. Now I love Knott's I have a season pass (only $60 dollars) but I find it a bit confusing to when the actual year it was a full functioning theme park. If they go by the 1940 mark the park should be celebrating it?s 65th Anniversary this year. What do you guys think?
Check out the park map on the website, it?s animated. http://knotts.com/map/knotts_web.swf

There's something in the menu @ Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant that explains the whole history thing. If someone's got that lying around it should say. Coney Island & Playland also contend to be America's first theme park, amusement park, etc.
