Default It's time to play the music, It's time to light the lights... Muppet Show on Disney!

July 19th... a Muppet Show special on Disney Channel with "all your Disney Channel stars".

UNfortunately, it's Called "Studio DC: Almost Live"... hosted by Dylan and Cole Sprouse (Disney Channel's "Suite Life of Zach and Cody" show). So it sounds like it's centered around those two kids more than the Muppets themselves. Does Disney think the Muppet brand is so diluted that DYLAN AND COLE SPROUSE are a bigger draw than the Muppets??? Let's see, whose fault would THAT be? Disney themselves, perhaps???

I mean really... put a REAL Muppet special together, put it on ABC on a Sunday night, and watch the ratings go thru the roof! The audience "is out there" waiting for some quality Muppet comedy. Just don't throw another "Muppet Wizard Of Oz" at us and expect us to be wowed at how creative Disney is being... ugh!

That having been said, I'll take ANY Muppet variety show on any channel at least once rather than NO Muppet show. So it's obvious I'm of two minds about this at the moment... what are your thoughts?

  • Miley Cyrus with Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem Band singing Cyrus' "GNO"
  • Miss Piggy joining the Jonas Brothers
  • Ashley Tisdale and Kermie singing "Bop To The Top"

Oh I love the Muppet Show!! In high school, I used to always watch it and then the next day, I'd discuss how funny it was with my Language Arts teacher--who always watched it, too! I must seen Muppet Vision 3-D about 8 times and now my 6 year old son is a huge fan of the Muppets, too! I love Miss Piggy and have 2 Christmas ornaments of her that go on my tree every year. Why don't they just put the old Muppet Show reruns from the 70's back on tv?? Although I love all the Muppet Movies, those shows were awesome! Maybe this special on the Disney Channel will resurrect interest in the Muppets and they will start a new show!! Yippee! I want to be on it and sing a song with Kermit =)

I love the Muppet's too! I wish they would play the old re-runs on the Disney channel, that would be great! I know a lot of people who would really enjoy seeing them come back. Thanks for the info DaddyB =)

Well, it's better than nothing... still, Disney Channel in its present day is just terrible. Most of the shows are garbage, and this attempt at putting a classic with the modern programming is just pathetic. Who knows, it might be fine, but like Daddyb mentioned, we're tired of Muppet Wizard of Oz type "entertainment."

Well, that's Disney Channel for you.

Honestly, I watch that channel a lot but sometimes it really gets on my nerves, how they consider their "original movies" and "stars" (*shudder*) to be bigger than those that are Disney classics. Like, they show a movie every night, but not once have I seen Snow White, The Jungle Book, Sleeping Beauty, or even some of the newer ones like The Little Mermaid or Beauty and the Beast. I think Finding Nemo is the "oldest" film they ever air. Which really annoys me, because the aforementioned movies are just as good today as they were when they came out in theatres, and they are millions of times better than some of that crap that kids today consider to be "Disney".

That said, I have nothing against most of the Disney Channel shows and whole HSM/Hannah Montana franchise thing. I just wish that this generation of Disney Channel viewers (that whole 5-11 age range or what have you) would get to see some of the old mixed in with the new. Balance is key, IMO.

Who knows, maybe that's what they're aiming for with this Muppet thing. Which I plan on watching, of course.

[/end rant]

Sorry, but as much as I love the Muppets, I won't be able to force myself to watch this garbage. I can't stand the Disney Channel "stars".

A real Muppet special would be sooooooo nice. Right now I'll have to settle for watching DVDs of the movies and seasons of the Muppet Show. I'm waiting for Season 5 to come out with the episode (520) starring Wally Boag from Disneyland's Golden Horseshoe AND I would love for them to release the TV Special "John Denver and the Muppets: A Christmas Together" on video.

Disney just doesn't know what to do with the uber-awesomeness of the Muppets. If they want me to watch the Disney channel "stars" (cough, cough), then I guess sucking me in with promises of Muppets may work. In some ways the DC "stars" are like Muppets, except the Muppets are funny and are supposed to overact.
