IDK its definitely a Tween movie, but high school is like the complete opposite of HSM, not even close to being realistic. But i gotta say first was the better end, overall i don't like them though.

I actually liked this one a lot. Some of the scenes were REALLY dramatic, but they made it kind of cool, in a wierd way.

I liked the first one when it first came out, but they overplayed it a lot. Zac Efron socks?! wow.

My review of it, reading it over again, was probably a bit harsh:

Disney Channel has always had a penchant for finding ways to come up with the worst storylines for their cast of young stars, which is a tradition they sadly manage to continue with High School Musical 2. The first High School Musical managed to capture youth attention through it's catchy songs and dances, though the singing was poorly developed and the dances not quite up to broadway caliber.
In this new film, the singing talents of the entire cast have improved, and the dances have definitely improved, however, the storyline has somehow managed to regress even further. High School Musical 2's vague plot only serves to lead into the next music video number. Unfortunately, the producers of this sequel found it necessary to edit the living begeesus out of all the songs, making them sound ridiculously manufactured and entirely non-Broadway. The film's execution of these songs is poor, one minute going from poorly scripted dialog into a pop song, complete with stereotypical lyrics. While this film is fun for the tween target audience, it is an insult to anything that is considered a musical, and should be renamed to avoid any confusion that might occur for someone who wrongly thinks it is one.

Well, I was held hostage by the brat of the house and was in a way forced to watch this yesterday.

Let's just say that after watching HSM2, I felt like taking a bus 10 miles to New York City just to jump off the Brooklyn Bridge.

I caught it last night and really didn't care for it all that much. The first one was cute and more of a traditional musical, but this one was like just watching a string of music videos. There were too many weird effects added to the vocals, and some songs felt like they just had a conversation rather than sang a song. I didn't care for the songs nearly as much as I liked the original.

Upon second viewing, I gotta add: the only numbers that really caught my eye were "Everyday" and "All For One." The latter was easily my favorite scene of the film - catchy, great dances, and just plain fun. And I thought Zac Efron did a particularly good acting job with what he was given - I think he's learning a lot as his career takes hold.

On a side note - does anyone else feel gypped at not getting to see the musical that is the show's namesake? The entire first film was built around getting into the show... and then all of a sudden, in the second one, it's long in the past with barely a mention! I kinda feel like we missed a big something there. :/ HSM 1.5, anyone?
