I thought it was hilarious when Peter Moore held up the Halo 3 360, and he got that big akward moment of silience from the audience. Sorry, I didn't dig that color scheme either.
Otherwise, besides that, I thought everything else Microsoft showed was cool and there's lots to expect from them, and it's confirmed that it is all coming forth by the end of this year. I am currently waiting to get my video of the Nintendo Press Conference and the Sony one too, so there's much more to look foward to for me.

^ Well, considering that the E3 is the only time of the year where Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony, the biggest giants currently in the gaming industry, and their presidents of the video game branch get together at this one time of year in America to show off their latest developments and business, this is most definetely the biggest yearly gaming event in America.
Not just the three giants, but countless 3rd-party software developers are in on this aswell. It's the largest video game expo event in America, atleast. What IS the largest? I would consider the Tokyo Game Show the largest. Also, DaddyB. The numbers may seem underwhelming, but that's because the E3 is very limited to only allowing only game industry professionals, and journalists. Some guests of the exhibiters are allowed in, like celebrities. Even many media groups couldn't get accepted in. The general public don't get in. But the general public do get their media insight from media that share them. Trust me, if the E3 was open for anyone to visit, that place would be jam packed with random people who have no business to be there.

Sorry, but I've got to voice again, GDC is much bigger. It's for developers and publishers. There are several keynotes by the heads of Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft gaming. And a weeks worth of training sessions (sat through a whole day of gaming physics with a really cool example of realtime sound creation with accurate sound to the objects involved).
All the biggest developers and publishers show up, with limited press involvement, which is why I'm sure the mistaken belief that E3 is bigger (sorry, but the guys on X-Play are not actually in the industry). Oh ya, and they usually have a huge recruiting area by the biggest and best (chatted with everyone including LucasArts). |

Most people who play video games don't normally think about what games that came from what company. I mean, not many loyalize all these 3rd-party companies like they do for the three giants. Don't get me wrong, people do look up for all these companies, but not as big as the three.
Most people think about Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony and their hardware first, thus the reason why there are so much seeming competition between all the fans for each company. The fans stick to their favorite company and support them. You rarely see that for 3rd-party developers. I think this is why people look foward to E3 more than GDC, it's the time of the year when Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony come together to show how they're doing in the business, future plans, future systems, future games, and most of all, provide opportunities to game developers for their systems. Not to mention all the 3rd-parties to look at too. GDC is big, and E3 isn't as big no more. It's limiting itself down to the bareness that the three companies have to show off, yet that's still rewarding to just see them for many. |

After reading Disney_Guy's response, I realize that my repsonces have been from a completely different view point. Everyone is commenting from the perspective of the patron. E3 was always built as a venue to show upcoming projects to the general public, which is why it's always had such a large media infusion.
My reponses come from the viewpoint of a developer. GDC is built for developers. It's an opportunity for the big three, 3rd party, and individuals to come todether (a lot of contracts are signed at this convention). And while E3 shows what's coming out tomorrow, GDC shows what's coming out tomorrow, and next month, and planned for next year. But, it's also a lot more techinical, which scares of a lot of the media, which adds to the viepoint of it being smaller. |
