HTML is considered a programming language, but is Hyper Text Markup, as opposed to C and ++, which would be a general-purpose programming language, mainly used for systems programming. Think of HTML as a language of a different continent, helping to acheive slightly different goals as some other languages, but overally the same thing: to make a computer with online capabilities run in a satisfactory manner. Since PHP is a Hypertext Preprocessor, for instance, it's somewhat of a bridge between the HTML and Simula/C families. Javascript is an HTML embellishment, created by Netscape to enhance and provide more opportunities online. Note that JAVA and Javascript are not the same language. Java is a full-fledged programming language, Javascript is less of a programming language than even HTML.

But you don't really program the computer to do anything with pure html... the web browser is going to display a webpage through a web server, both of which were programmed. Html just formats the display that will be shown. In some ways it's just an organizational language, as format specification has been taken over by css mostly.

I'll say it for the rest of you who decided to click this thread. NEEEERRRRRD ALEEEEEEERRRRTTT

It's considered a programming language by many people though, which keeps it as a programming language in my mind, not as a systems language, but a webpage language. Though if you don't count HTML, you can't count Javascript, since Javascript not only needs HTML to run, but doesn't actually create its own applets or other programs. Combined with Java though, Javascript can help to execute powerful programs, but it's not the Javascript that's running the program, it's Java.

For what it's worth, tt's often easier to tell my wife that I'm "programming" "coding" or "assembling" the daddyb updates than to try and explain what's involved with HTML.

It's sounds more complicated, and it gets her off my back about coming to dinner at the very moment that it's ready.

I do not care if you count it or not but I also can do some HTML. And by that I mean typing directly into notepad.

Does anyone know how to Program BASIC? I use either Chipmunk BASIC interpereter for Mac OS, QBasic for DOS/Windows, and SmallBASIC for my handheld. These are all free and the only compiler for all of these is QBasic.

WHen I was a kid my mother used to call us to dinner well before it was ready. We'd come to the table and she was still cooking. My dad and I used to hate that
