Default Cast Member Salary

So is working at Disneyland a job that can sustain you through college???

I just got curious today, and how much does Disney pay its Cast Members?
I know that all aren't on equal pay, but maybe a run-down of salaries would be nice. Positions I'm mostly interested in knowing about---

Characters
Performers (Dapper Dans, Marching Band, Parade, etc.)
Artists (the one who draw caricature, or hand-paint everyday in New Orleans Square and such)
Ride Operators
Tour Guides

This is still a ways in the future for me, but I was just curious! Thanks for any help!

Most jobs at the park are minimum wage or slightly above. If you have a scholarship for the college you are going to....you'd do alright. It's not a lot of money....unless you're able to move up in status....or into management.

They dont pay very much at all. I am actually very suprised. I can work at In & Out Burger and get paid more. I get the great things out of being an employee but I am still amazed.

But I am sure that experience and a background in certain fields would yield a higher pay rate though. They are just showing the starting off rate.

What about sound/light technicians for the show?

^Now those are the guys that make the money. Techs in all departments start off around 17-18/hr AND its union so its very good for what they do.

Thank gods for high school theater tech, then. That's how I got my first sound gig, and that's how I'll get them all again this year (that and Audacity, gotta love that program). And if I can keep that up through college to the DCP, I'm golden.

i started out making a little bit more than minimum wage in the stores. it does go up slowly after time. the good thing about the company is that it is rather easy to move up to a lead position. the ones in store operations don't make much more than we do though. if you really like Disney and like to visit the parks a lot, it might be worth it since you get into the parks for free

And every time you get into the park for free you are saving $66 each day. Go to the park every day in a week...you have saved $462! So there ya go!

Let me put it this way...

You're not working at Disney to make serious money. Sure, you can get some holiday presents, eat out, get a nice dinner more often, but bottom line, you're not going to make a serious living working hourly at Disney. You're working there because you like the place, because you want the experience, or want the benefits. But if you go into it with the idea of making money, you will be sorely disappointed.

No that's my kind of logic! Ha I'm already seeing the plus side to this!

So CA Screamin' Dude, it's not a wise choice for a college job? I always thought that it would be a blast to do, but maybe I'd have to find another job alongside it.

Not saying it's not a wise choice for a college job, it's just not something you will make money out of. It's your run of the mill ~minimum wage job, which also doesn't guarantee you hours (as a new Cast Member, if you plan to work Fri-Sat-Sun during the off-season, you might expect just 12-16 hours over those three days, depending on your department). Scheduling is also notoriously unfriendly to college students trying to have a social life.

Disneyland... Social Life... Disneyland... Social Life... Disneyland... Social Life...

Am I a horrible person if I'm willing to sacrifice a social life for Disneyland?
Ha I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get to it!

Thanks for all the info CA Screamin' Dude!

DISNEYLAND! DLR all the way, man. My social life is long-dead outside the net and school/work. Besides, you're working the shows! SWEETNESS!
