Lightbulb So, you want to be an Imagineer? Competition Project One

The moment you have all been waiting for...

Hello and Welcome to the first ever ?So, you want to be an Imagineer?? Competition here on Visions Fantastic.

As you can tell, we have moved the first project one day forward so we can get this competition under way.
The judges are excited about this competition and we hope that all the contestants feel the same way.
Now that the brief introduction to the season has been completed, and without wasting anymore time, we all wish you good luck as we ask the question?

?So, you want to be an Imagineer??

Project One:

You?re a rookie in your league, but you have been assigned the task of creating a brand new dining facility at one of the Disney Theme Parks Worldwide (excluding Hong Kong Disneyland?HKDL is not one of the parks you can choose). The catch though is that they are NOT looking for anything along the lines of a quick snack place (ex Conestoga Fries or Tiki Juice Bar).
They are looking for either a counter service (quick service), Casual Dining, Character Dining, or Fine Dining style restaurant for their next theme park location selling food.

Theming and Atmosphere Tie-in: Your restaurant can be themed to the land it?s in, themed to a type of movie, type of Disney Character and/or attraction it?s near. The main goal is to have it be themed to something related to Disney or the park it is in with the theme being present through the entire project. The theme must include a back story to the restaurant (how the place came to be, who owns it, why they own it, etc) and a new character for it (similar to Shrunken Ned)
Also, to get full credit, please make sure the location that the restaurant is going into actually fits into the land?s overall theme. Don?t put a movie set place themed to Tron in DAK or an Alien-themed place on Main Street, USA at DLP.

Menu Items: Please include a selection of menu items that would appear in your restaurant. Make sure they tie-in to the place?s theme.

Location: Make sure the dining location actually fits in a real location inside the theme park. If your restaurant does not fit in the location you stated it would, your point value for the location grading will be zero. This is were you can use Google Maps and Microsoft Live Maps to help you.

Requirements:

Location: 10/100
Creativity: 20/100
Menu Items: 10/100
Theming: 25/100
New Character and Back Story Info: 15/100
Detail in Presentation: 10/100
Area?s Atmosphere Tie-in: 10/100
Total: 100/100

This is a non-elimination project.

Please remember to turn in the project to:

to send the email to the address?
simply remove the ' -at- ' and replace it with the sign ' @ '.

Can our proposals include removal of things currently in the park or changing things actually in the park now? For example, I would propose taking this stand or whatever out and putting the restaurant there. Or, I would take over this current restaurant or attraction and change it like this to fit into the new restaurant idea.

ETA: Also, we may not have knowledge or actual data on some places of the parks. How do you decide whether something would be feasible or not? (IE, we think a restaurant would fit somewhere, but you may know more about the place and know it wouldn't. Do we still get points?)

ETA (again): Well, I guess I'll just ask all the questions today. :)

For the character, does it have to be a new one, or can it be an obscure Disney character, or even a character that is just not usually seen in the parks, but is a well known one?

Rachele:

You cant take out something (do away with it or relocate it) as long as it is reasonable. If you're relocating, say a stand, and putting it in the former stand's spot, that is fine. But if you are planning on tearing down this entire structure (like a showbuilding), I would say no. You can though, use a current location of a restaurant and redesign it to the max or use any current empty showbuilding for your restaurant.

I'll give you two answers about your location question.
1) If the map you are using does not show the park clearly...that's fine, please do your best though. Remember, if one map does not show the area, try a different one. I know you cant see DLRP with Microsoft Live Maps but you can with Google.
2) If you are unsure that your restaurant will fit because of it's size...my best answer for this is to try your best. Look at the park from above, find pictures online that shows the area (or near the area) where your restaurant will be. If you think it will fit, and you can show us how it will fit, you should have no problems. We're not going to visit whatever park you chose and measure your propsed site.

About the character... we'll get back to you on that

Thanks for the answers. My idea keeps evolving, but I figure it would be better to leave the questions up in case anyone else is wondering about the answer. I guess it's just really questioning how strict you will be with judging the different parts.

I await the answer for my character question. :)

Answer to charcter ? :It has to be an original character. The theme of the resturaunt must be for a land, include a back story to the restaurant (how the place came to be, who owns it, why they own it, etc) and a new character for it (similar to Shrunken Ned.)

Now my problem is with the back story bit of things. So say you have your restaurant, would the backstory be like what a real lawyer might keepo about managers and owners and stuff. Or would it be fictional, as in the resauant used to belong to a tribe of cannibals but they sold it to me for 4 heads. Type stuff?

Do you get what I'm trying to get at?
