Post Wall-"E"xperience

Sorry if it's too long. Had no choice, long story...

The Wall-“E”xperience
Disneyland Park, CA & Disneyland, HK
Seeking a taste of the future? Look no more:the future is now.”
Basketbuddy101©

Captain B. McCrea’s Pizza Parlor
“Eating Out There Never Tasted So Good”
The exterior of the restaurant is futuristic and only slightly different from the previous one. It matches easily with the rest of Tomorrowland. Red and blue colors make up the scheme. The layout of the restaurant remains the same. The rocket model outside of the restaurant is replaced by a model of the ship that Eve arrived in when she came to Earth. The interior design, on the other hand, is different. Immediately after guests walk in through the doors of the eatery, they will find themselves in an active environment full of flashing buttons and futuristic gadgets on the walls.7

The futuristic titanium chairs and sleek tables are only a few of the new features of the upgraded restaurant. The chrome floor is so wonderfully gleaming that guests can actually see their reflection. Even the trays are modern-looking. The Buy n Large logo can be spotted everywhere in the restaurant whether it’s the metallic-looking walls, food trays, and the food items. The eating area is equipped with a flat screen plasma television along the wall. Occasionally, Captain McCrea himself will welcome guests directly from the bridge of the ship. In addition, an automated computer will show guests “live” camera feed of the Axiom including the massive hub of the ship. Replacing the previous posters are Buy n Large posters advertising the many products of the company.

New to the restaurant are thick steel shelves attached to the upper walls all around the restaurant. Clear red and blue lights blink green and the thick glass covers the shelves. Behind the glass are scraps of recycled metals and a couple of other strange oddments along with ship parts and a few blocks or recycled garbage. The large glass windows that allow guests to see out into Tomorrowland are striped with portrayals of the many planets and cosmos that make up the universe. Sharp-eyed guests will notice the tiny planet of Earth located near the middle of one of the windows. Lighting plays an important role in the overall theme of the restaurant, which is why each bulb will be replaced by blue neon lights to give it a gripping look. All in all, the store is much cleaner and much more lively-looking and that alone is an improvement to the previous store.

The previous ceiling was easily visible from the inside. To fix this, a thick fiber optic glass will be placed throughout every inch of ceiling. When guests loom up, they will notice twinkling blue and red stars. The shop features new dessert items that guests can choose from aside from pizza, pasta, and salad. Some of these new items include M-O Cones (Snow Cones), Cosmo Cream Bars (Chocolate Chip Cookie Ice Cream), Astro Apple Pie, Supernova Sundaes, and Shooting Star Shakes. The Starliner Diner in Hong Hong’s Disneyland will unfortunately be replaced by an almost-carbon copy of the same restaurant.

Wall-E’s Truck
Wall-E’s truck is not the largest store in Tomorrowland. The modest store is based off of Wall’E’s Buy n Large truck. Inside guests can browse through the shop and purchase different items whether it’s toys, clothing, or candy. The square-shaped store is almost an exact replica from the film. Many items on the metal shelves are for sale. Others, however, are only for display. These items include some of Wall-E’s collectables. Not only does the shop capture the spirit and theme of the film, but it also provides a unique shopping experience as the store is seemingly alive with defective knickknacks, shining Christmas lights, and an old radio that plays some familiar tunes. The exterior looks almost exactly like Wall-E’s truck in the film. At least 10 Buy n Large logos can be spotted al around the truck. It looks dirty and sandy because of the age of the truck. The thick wheels of the vehicle seem like they haven’t been in use for decades.

The few headlights of the vehicle aren’t working properly as they blink repeatedly and then turn off completely. Despite the fact that the yellow coat of paint seems to be peeling and the outside occasionally creaks, the vehicle is still in good shape. A few of the exterior features includes a futuristic marquee that welcomes guests and an interactive phone feature that allows children to interact with Wall-E from the outside. Guests walk in and are immediately dumbstruck. The inside is completely filthy except for the hard floor and ceiling which are quite sparkly. The store is indeed supposed to maintain a “dirty” environment or else the theme would not work. The shelves are made of metal and thick glass rectangular slabs separate items. The ceiling has many electrical wires going in different directions along with a few Christmas lights that light the shop.

A couple of signs around the walls really don’t relate to the theme of the shop at all. Some of these signs include a muddy stop sign, a non-smoking sign, and an old “30 mph” sign. Useless knickknacks hang from the walls as well as a magnet chain hanging from one end of the shop to the other. Near the right corner of the shop is an old 25-inch television replaying two of the songs from “Hello Dolly” including “Put on Your Sunday Cloths” and “It Only Takes a Moment.” The instrumental versions of the songs can also be heard from the outside of the truck. The television and VCR set are standing on an open drawer where guests can buy a variety of colorful Tomorrowland key chains. On a shelf by the TV is a large fan keeping the area cool.

The cash register is just as grimy as the rest of the store. From the front side, the counter and the face of the register stand is dirty while the back is hygienic and contemporary. Behind the register is a large Buy n Large poster advertising Wall-E units everywhere. On each side of the counter are small piles of trash cubes neatly organized by stacks. What makes the shop successful with guests is the simplicity of the store itself. Instead of having a misleading storyline, the shop is very simple and straightforward. You can think find. As an added bonus, guests do not have to travel all the way across the shop to pay for their items. The register is just ahead of the entrance! For Honk Kong’s store, the Space Traders store will be guttered to make room for Wall-E’s Truck.

Wall-E Escapade
In this zany dark ride, guests will board a ROVE-R unit which will take them to space
and back to Earth .Trackless, computerized, and able to travel on an elevator from one floor to another. Both floors of the Innoventions building host the new dark ride. The building no longer rotates. Just like the shop, the posters displaying the past Tomorrowland attractions are torn down to make room for the attraction’s Buy n Large posters. Guests will find that the color scheme has changed to a dark blue, gray and red scheme. Most of the queue takes place outside while the themed queue takes place in a small area of the bottom floor.

Queue
Before entering the building, guests will wait in the platform that used to spin. Beautifully painted murals of Wall-E in space are painted to match with the rest of the theme. The same monitors that were there before will give guests their pre-show presentation. Instrumental versions of “Put on Your Sunday Clothes” and “It Only Takes a Moment” play as guests wait. Finally, the screens zap on and guests take a look at the CEO of Buy n Large Corporation. “Welcome humans to the cargo hold of the Axiom. If you’re watching this then it means that we can now go home to our planet. We’ve set up a fleet of ROVE-R units just inside to take you back to Earth. They were literally made for this journey. All you must do is deliver the plant in the unit’s trunk to the planet. Good “Buy” and good luck.”

Flashing red lights blink and guests are beckoned inside the cargo hold. The doors close behind and guests find themselves in a room full of metal boxes reading “Food” and “Supplies.” A few malfunctioning robots are scattered around the place. The queue takes guests around the perimeter of the bottom floor as they are entertained by a bunch of misfit animatronic robots. One of the most spectacular features of the queue are screens projecting the galaxy from the large windows of the Axiom’s cargo hold. The picture is so clear that guests begin to get the sensation of actually being in space. After reaching the edge of the building, guests are escorted into the loading area.

The loading area is located at the lowest point of the Axiom. A dome-shaped IMAX screen at the bottom shows Earth below, rotating. Meanwhile, Wall-E and Eve can be spotted flying in the distance on the screen. The ceiling is dome-shaped as well while the walls. Guests take a look at the 12 passenger ROVE-R transportation unit. As soon as they board, the control panels in front of them will illuminate and the video screen on each side will show a grid view of the Axiom. After strapping on, the vehicle heads towards what looks to be a large elevator. Everyone also notices that there is no track and the vehicles ahead are traveling upward in the elevator, a process used also in the Tower of Terror.

Ride Description
AUTO’s voice is heard from speakers on the vehicle. “Attention ladies and gentlemen. We cannot go home. This voyage has been canceled. Please exit your ROVE-R transportation units.” The screens then suddenly zap on and Captain B. McCrea shouts at guests desperately. “Humans!" Thank goodness you’re still alive. Disregard that last order by AUTO. You need to get that plant home! ROVE-R will take you there in no time. Be careful and remember, the fate of the Earth lies in your hands. Oh no! AUTO Not the power! The screens zap off and the vehicle enters the elevator. The elevator shakes and the vehicle spins completely. The doors open and guests find that they are in the Axiom’s mid-level region.

There are metallic items flying in different directions along with humans in self-moving chairs. Red lights flash around meaning that the humans aboard are now fugitives for failing to exit the vehicle. ROVE-R, who makes robotic noises, does not notice that he must stop. Instead, he avoids the security robots and guests are sent hurtling towards a hallway where more misfit robots are held. Guests look to the right where they see Wall-E and EVE heading into another elevator. The doors ahead open, allowing the vehicle to enter the ship’s hub. Some of the ride’s newest technology is used here. This includes the vehicles ability to travel backwards on the trackless path and then actually dodge danger by crouching downward. After taking a look at the colossal food court, guests enter the ship’s bridge.

The room is silent until AUTO appears ahead, warning guests to stop. Using the new vehicle technology, ROVE-R actually crosses AUTO, sending guests off course into the garbage chute where guests see that Wall-E has also gone down. A new projection system allows Wall-E to be fully animated without using an actual AA. Guests then slowly careen down the chute; actually spinning while falling. The next room is covered in thick trash. EVE can be seen searching for Wall-E who has gone missing. EVE is also a video projection. Guests begin to rock back and forth because of the thickness of the trash. Subsequently, giant metal arms, which are powered by electric motors, lift the vehicle and then toss it out through a “garbage” toss chute. Passengers then find themselves in space itself. The screens read “Oxygen Mode” explaining why they can breath. This is the largest scene in the attraction. Giant planets and stars can be seen throughout the entire room. Guests then see Wall-E and Eve projected on the left corner. The vehicle then passes them and takes a route around the Axiom and back into the ship through a small opening.

Before entering through the passage, the passengers look at the massive Axiom ship which is only a small portion of what is a larger ship. All goes dark except for Wall-E and Eve’s eyes which are clearly visible ahead. Then without notice, a large circular eye appears near the ceiling. The vehicle quickly spins to the right where we see an army of security robots. The vehicle slows and AUTO, who is ahead, warns ROVE-R not to come any closer. AUTO releases a green “antigravity” laser beam which causes ROVE-R to “hover” above the ground for a few moments. And then slam back into the force, this is achieved by vibrating the vehicle and using hydraulics to make it hover. This effect has in fact never been used before. Guests then look up to see that an Eve AA is dropping a rescue rope down to ROVE-R. The vehicle vibrates to some extent and then rises up at a high speed. Guests hold on as it glides past dozens of befuddled obese humans. The exit portal can bee seen ahead although it is closed. Then from the left and right sides, Wall-E and EVE open the doors and guests are sent out into space and heading towards the Earth.

The darkness of the room allows guests to feel as if they were floating in space. The trackless system also helps. After turning a full 360 degrees, the vehicle comes face to face with the Axiom ship apparently kilometers away. Using the same modern projection, guests get a view of the Axiom going into hyper drive. ROVE-R then turn back forward as the stars turn into blurry lights. Guests feel an odd sensation and then notice that the area in which they are in is foggy. ROVE-R turns a corner and then guests find themselves on Earth where they see Captain B. McCrea planting the plant. “Well what do you know, they did it. With the help of our fellow humans, we managed to enable the planet to move on. Good luck and remember…there’s a great big beautiful tomorrow…” After twisting past the desolate earth which is full of trash piles and cubes, we see Wall-E and Eve huddled together in the distance along with the rest of the misfit robots. The fog covers the area once more and guests arrive back at the loading area.

The entire ride is located at the top floor while the queue, loading dock, and exit railway is on the bottom floor. The new technology used in the attraction is a ride system that allows vehicles to move individually with no track while also moving upward and downward on an elevator while also spinning completely and dodging security robots by sliding past them. Combining all of these features allow guests to have a different experience unlike any seen before. Uniting all these features makes this the most complex dark ride in Disneyland Park. In Hong Kong, however, the ride will replace Buzz Lighyear Astro Blasters. Regardless of the popularity of the attraction, adding Wall-E Escapade will better promote the importance of the Earth. In addition, a realistic lighting planetarium will be placed outside for guests to admire before entering the ride.

If you have read below this point, I’d like to thank you especially for bearing with me the length of the project. I’m sorry if it was to long but it was essential. I tried not to add emphasis on everything so I guess that’s all I can say. Hop you enjoyed.

Disneyland's new WALL•E Adventure

The Attraction:

The attraction will be bringing back an old favorite... the PeopleMover track!

The queue will be taking over the Starcade, the bottom and top floor. The bottom floor will be themed to the ending of the movie... the "re-birth of mankind" starting with the caveman drawings on the wall, through the hieroglyphics and such. Now on the second floor (themed similar to the deck of the Axiom) you will see the Hover Chairs (the cars in the ride) and a short little explanation on how to safely use them, by the audio-animatronic robot above the track.

Now here comes a bit of expense... the Starcade will connect to the loading station of the ride (where the old Rocket Jets used to be) on a rather large bridge (I know this is a bit pricey but I thought we might be able to stretch a bit) to the old Rocket Jets deck.

Now what makes this ride special, is the new technology behind it. Similar to the Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, and the new Toy Story Midway Mania, this will be a laser tag game of sorts, but minus the gun. How to do this? Simple, special glasses each with two strong reflective materials on the corners angled slightly towards the center of the glasses. Now as the riders go through the ride, they will see different scenes from the movie (Earth, the Axiom, and even space) and while they travel in their controllable Hover Chairs (they rotate like BLAB) they will be looking for different objects. The objects will appear on the on-board screen.

The Objects will know they were spotted because as the visible light (used to make the image we see such as EVE) they will also be omitting LED light invisible to the naked eye. The special glasses will reflect it back at the wall and it will pick up the reflected light and will credit your score.

The Store:

The BuyNLarge Ultrastore will be taking over the area formally known as Honey, I Shrunk the Audiance. It will be a fairly simple store, just modeled to look like WALL•E's truck. The store will carry WALL•E merchandise, along with all of your favorite Disneyland products. With a large WALL•E and EVE at the top of the store, it will be a fun place to shop after experiencing the ride.

The Restaurant:

The BNL UltraEat restaurant will take over the Pizza Port, you will be able to order normal everyday food, but with a special Disney twist. They will be served in a cup! No they won't all go through a food processor, but they will fit in a collectable (or recyclable) BNL cup. Salads, Pizza Slices, they will all be served in a cup. Other than that, it will be a normal restaurant, but with the large BNL sign (where the Moonliner currently stands) it will be an inviting eatery for families across the park

Well there is my project, not the greatest I guess, but I hope you enjoyed it

Have a great day!

Comments: I have a big issue about using projections over AA, and that's the main flaw in your project. WHY? Especially considering Wall*E and Eve are robots in the first place. To me, projections are ruining the theme park experience to an extent. Finding Nemo feels like your watching a movie, and Midway Mania feels like you're playing an arcade game. It just seemed unnecisary to me. That, and the fact that there's some parts of the project that I really couldn't grasp (flying metal objects, going down a garbage chute)

Comments: This project was all over the place. You're lucky we didn't include a detail score, because that was your main flaw. You didn't even describe the ride, just the basis for the ride. There was no story to speak of, and the technology I can't grasp.

Comments: The use of WALL-E is very cool to me. It would be tricky to adapt it to the parks, but you’ve done an interesting concept. First, we look at Captain B. McCrea’s Pizza Parlor. The imagery of it being more than a restaurant seems very engaging. It would certainly be a fun new dining experience. The loss of the Moonliner wouldn’t be that bad and Eve’s retrieval ship would certainly be cool. My only problem with the restaurant is due to the movie storyline. Ok, were on a restaurant in the Axiom and we’re supposed to be passengers. But recall the passengers of the Axiom were rather large. This would really send a good message to diners. This could very well be a great restaurant but really there is no need for the Wall-E theme. Now we move onto Wall-E’s truck, I love this idea. It could very well be a greatly themes shop that would be just fun to look at and enter. The possibilities are very great. As much as I love it though, it would really be out of place in TL. I mean you have all these sleek buildings in whites and blues, and then you have this random dirty yellow truck. It just very out of place and doesn’t fit the theme. Finally we get to the dark ride; from a creative side I love it. I like how you chose the way to retell the movies events and got right to the chunk. The beginning queue with the misfit robots sounds really fun. And the pre show video by the Buy N Large CEO could be very entertaining. Now to the realistic side, this ride is impossible. Now you say this is a dark ride, and a very advanced dark ride at that. And you seem to believe the Innoventions building is fairly large when it is in fact a very tight building. Your ride story just has so much going on and so much action is can’t possibly be a dark ride. A simulator attraction perhaps, but not a dark ride. All in all your ideas are very imaginative and I give you a good job.
