Hello! Here’s my final project for So, You Want To Be An Imagineer, Season 5
Before I get into my entry, I’d like to thank y’all for putting on such a fun competition. I’ve had a lot of fun doing this, and it’s taught me a lot. I also wanted to apologize for being such a whiner about this project; I’ve just been super stressed out from homework and enormous tests…you know, the usual stuff that comes from high school. This project is by far not my best work…several of the drawings are rushed or even unfinished, and some of the ideas aren’t fully thought out. It’s not because I didn’t care about it, it’s just that I really have not had any time. I apologize for this, and I won’t complain if I get low scores for it. All that matters is that I had fun during this competition, right? 
So, without further ado, I present to you, my final project!

Theme: A Greener Tomorrow
Currently, one of the world’s biggest concerns is the environment and how our decisions today will affect our planet tomorrow. New “greener” technologies and sources of energy are constantly being researched and produced. Progress is constantly being made in our effort to save the planet. Tomorrowland, though it has undergone several theme changes over the years, has always had the underlying theme of advancements and progress in our world, so I thought that a “green” theme for Tomorrowland would be a fresh makeover for the land and would be popular with the public. It could be used as a showcase for new “green” technologies and advancements, such as solar power, sustainable farming, and electric cars. Several changes would be made to fit the new land, which I have listed here.
1. A new color scheme, featuring silver as the dominant color and different shades of green as accent colors.
2. Electrically powered cars in Autopia. (obviously, this would cause problems with their contract with Chevron. We’ll assume that this change would take place after the contract has ended)
3. More recycling bins.
4. Solar panels on buildings’ roofs
5. 100% recycled cups, napkins, bags, etc. at restaurants and shops.

Entrance
BIG changes will be made to Tomorrowland’s entrance. The new entrance is similar to the Magic Kingdom in Florida’s, but a little different. A small moat is now beneath guests as they walk over a bridge lit with green lights under a large archway. At the top of the arch is a globe-inside-of-a-globe, symbolizing the earth and its atmosphere. The Astro Orbiter has been moved back to the top of the PeopleMover station, but I’ll go into detail about that later.


Astro Orbiter
The Astro Orbiter will return to its original home on the top of the PeopleMover station. Since the Jules Verne-style version of the ride wouldn’t fit in with the new theme, I redesigned it. The rockets now orbit the “earth” and the “moon”. The ride itself will be similar to the old one, but with a little twist. The large round part at the bottom that the rockets are attached to rolls around a little in the base, so that the guests now aren’t only going up and down, but tilting from side to side, as well.

Stage Show-It’s Easy Being Green, Starring the Muppets!
Live at Tomorrowland Terrace, it’s the Muppets! Using audio animatronics, puppets, and live performers, this show tells the story of Kermit, who cares about the environment and saving the planet, but thinks that “going green” is too hard (Hey, it’s not easy being green (get it?)). The other Muppets prove him wrong, showing him how easy it is. The littlest things count, like always turning the lights off in your house when you’re not using them, or taking showers. Dr. Honeydew and Beaker even make an appearance, showing Kermit and the Audience their latest invention which converts sound into energy. They pursue the audience’s help in making it work by asking them to cheer into the machine. Unfortunately, like most of Muppet Labs’ other inventions, the machine ends up exploding. The show ends with Kermit finding that, in fact, it is easy being green, and encourages the audience to join him in creating a greener tomorrow.

Restaurant
Tomorrowland’s new restaurant will be a pricey one, unfortunately. Guests are seated at the outer ring of the carousel theater. While being served their food, each scene that they pass by shows a different scene that provides guests with information about sustainable farming. At the end of their meal, any food left over will be brought (by cast members) to a composting center off-property.
(Sorry this one’s so short. This is one of the sections that got a little left behind in my rush to get the project finished. )

The New PeopleMover
The new PeopleMover will be based on the Pixar movie, Wall-E. It provides guests with a fun and interactive experience that also fits the new theme of the land. While waiting in the queue line, guests watch a short video hosted by the Captain of the Axiom. He tells guests that after a few years of intensive research (and with the help of some friendly robots), the humans have created a device that can completely eliminate the cubes of trash that the WALL-E robots created. Unfortunately, there’s a LOT of cubes to get rid of, so they’re asking you to help them out. Each tram is equipped with large laser guns used to get rid of the trash. Each indoor section of the ride provides you with a new stack of cubes to shoot. The cubes are seen using a technology similar to that of the underwater projections used in the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage, where the guests see a computer-generated image superimposed over actual physical objects. The trash is projected on the screen, and like the screen in Toy Story Mania, can sense when and where it is shot at. Each scene features different characters from the film to cheer you on, with Wall-E and Eve at the end. Some of the characters are physically there in the showroom with the guests, and some of the characters who would be difficult to recreate in reality (i.e. Eve) would be projected. If a guests shoots at a projected character, it responds. As the guests exit the attraction, guests view another video of the Captain thanking them for their hard work.

Attraction-Green Machine
This attraction is awesome, if I may say so myself. There’s a few minor flaws, but I personally think it’s really cool.
The attraction starts with guests entering a high-tech laboratory, serving as a queue. Everything is white and pristine, and there’s mysterious robotic equipment everywhere. After making their way through the lab, guests are brought into a room. A scientist comes on a large screen in front of the guests and begins to welcome them on their tour of Greenway Labs. He begins on a spiel about research and greener ways of life, when suddenly, red lights flash and sirens go off. The scientist begins to panic and calls in his boss. His boss then comes on the camera and explains that they recently tested a time machine they were working on, and it worked. Unfortunately, the future wasn’t so bright. He recruits the guest to help them out by trying Greenway Labs’ newest invention, the Green Machine. The guests accept (not that they have much of a choice) and proceed to the loading station. The loading station is themed to look like a testing facility, with failed inventions everywhere and charred marks on the wall. Signs saying things like “hard hats required in this area” are posted everywhere, conveying a mood of danger for the guests. The guests then board their Green Machines, which are flying saucer-shaped vehicles that seat six guests each with their backs facing in. Each guest has a small touch screen positioned in front of them. They board their vehicles and set off on their adventure.

The Green Machine glides forward, slowly turning. The guests’ screens flicker on to show an image of the scientist from the preshow. “Hello, brave guests. Dr. Eco here. What you are currently testing is a Green Machine. What is a Green Machine, you may ask? This is a state-of-the art device used to perform environmentally friendly tasks by the touch of a button. This model, for example, plants trees. Originally, it was going to be a time machine, but we added the “green” components later. Lucky for us, the time travel components are still intact. But keep in mind, this Greenway product has never been tested before, so something could go disastrously wrong. Please make sure your hard hats and safety goggles are securely fastened…what’s that? You don’t have hard hats or safety goggles? Well, best of luck to you. I’ll steer you to the Time Travel Tunnel so that you can see exactly what the problem is.” The Green Machine then moves on to a tunnel labeled “Time Travel” (who would’ve thought? ). An announcement is made over a speaker. “Travelling to year 2100 in 10...9…8…7…6…5…4…3…2…1” The vehicle then begins rapidly spinning and there is a bright flash of light. The spinning slows down and guests find themselves in a futuristic world similar to that of the one in Wall-E. Trash is everywhere, there’s not a tree in sight, the air is polluted, and it’s hot. The guests see a time machine labeled “Property of Greenway Labs” with several Audio-Animatronic scientists stepping out. To those paying attention during the preshow, these were the scientists that set off the alarm when the guests were watching the video. They tell you to return to the present by pressing a large button on their touch screens. The guests press the buttons, and there’s a large flash and rapid spinning again, and you’re back at the lab. Dr. Eco returns to the screen. “Now you see why we have a problem. We’re going to help fix that. We’re going to take you outside the lab to a part of a forest that was recently gutted by loggers. You’re going to use the Green Machine’s tree planting abilities to help fix it.” The guests are brought out to a barren clearing filled with tree stumps and dirt. “Press the green buttons to plant trees. The seeds planted by our Green Machines grow at an extremely rapid pace, so don’t be alarmed by their sudden height. We want them to grow to their full potential immediately after planting, so that more oxygen is released.” On their screen, a map of their location appears, as well as instructions to press the green buttons to plant trees. Once a green button is pressed, a tree rises out of the ground. “Excellent Work!” Dr. Eco says. “Our invention works! Thank you, brave guests! We couldn’t have done it without you. You’ve helped us on our way to a greener tomorrow. Let’s see what our future looks like after Greenway Labs has used these Green Machines all over the world, shall we?” The guests travel in time again to the future, but now are greeted with a beautiful, much greener (literally, with all the trees that were planted) tomorrow. The guests then travel back to the past and return to the testing facility to exit.

Ill read and grade sometime this weekend. My grandfather is going in for surgery tomorrow to begin the process of getting rid of throat cancer.

Tomorrowland 2040
“Keep Moving Forward”
2040 is a time where the issue of drudgery lessens more and more. The focus of Tomorrowland 2040 is to bring back Walt Disney’s belief of what Tomorrowland should be: “A step into the future with predictions of constructive things to come”. In Tomorrowland 2040, upgraded attractions and brand new attractions will be introduced. This includes the Autopia: Electric Freeways of the Future, Robinson People Movers, and Robinson Hover Cars. A new dinner show based on the film Meet the Robinsons called “Frankie’s Swingin’ Theater” will also be introduced as well as a new shop, a new restaurant, and a new front entrance. New facades will be added to many of the buildings to match the new theme.

Tomorrowland 2040 Theme and Storyline
The overall theme of Tomorrowland 2040 is a Meet the Robinsons future theme. This theme will not only appeal to virtually all audiences, but will also promote a pleasant future that “never was”. This new Tomorrowland will incorporate a little bit of everything, mostly dealing with space travel, future technology, and advances in transportation. The story behind Tomorrowland 2040 is this: Cornelius Robinson, inventor and beloved father became Inventor of the Year and mayor of Tomorrowland in 2039. In only one year, he makes Tomorrowland gleam with modern buildings and efficient transportation systems. All is well and mostly everything seems to be going as planned. Tomorrowland receives new buildings and entertainment establishments all for the good of mankind. So now, the world is invited to see this new future and all its attractions. All they have to do is walk through the gates of the Happiest Place on Earth.

New Tomorrowland Entrance
The new entrance and practically the entire land’s facades are inspired by the future that Lewis saw in Meet the Robinsons. Sleek and futuristic facades will replace the metallic facades that cover Star Tours and Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters. The Astro Orbiter will be relocated, rethemed, and renamed. Taking the place of the Astro Orbiter is a magnificent circular color-changing whirl pool. The pool has rails on the perimeter to keep people from touching the pool or falling in. At nighttime, the pool spins, combing different colors of Light-Emitting Diode (LED) lights to create a mesmerizing vortex of intense colors of violet, blue, and green. The pool will be known as the “Whirlitron”. The whirlpool takes up about half the size of the Astro Orbiter, giving guests more space to enter Tomorrowland. The broad rocks in the entrance of Tomorrowland will be torn down to make room for the new entrance sign.

The main color scheme for Tomorrowland 2040 involves colors of blue, white, light gray, green, and some gold. Those are the colors that will be used on the new entrance sign and most of the entire land. The entrance sign is an arch-type indication of the future and is loosely based on Turkmenia’s Arch of Neutrality. The arch sign has a tripod design, meaning that it has only three supporting structures. The back supporting structure is located just in front of the Whirlitron and the others are located where the old rocks used to be. The same LED lights will be used for the entrance sign, illuminating the words that read “Tomorrowland 2040” in bright blue letters. The upper area of the sign itself consists of ultramodern shapes that make the overall structure unique in design. On the top of the arch is a circular pod that has the letter “T” on both sides. The pod also spins a full 360 degrees.

Robinson People Movers
A new advancement in transportation technology is the Robinson People Mover. Cornelius Robinson perfected these vehicles himself. The People Movers hardly ever stop and are propelled forward by magnetic levitation, a system that uses magnetic forces to move the vehicles forward. In addition, these pod-shaped vehicles can spin a full 360 degrees, allowing its passengers to get an excellent view of the entire area. Four colors are included for the vehicles: dark cerulean, lavender blue, arsenic, and silver. Because the pods are enclosed, an air conditioning system will be used, as well as an onboard speaker system and a four-passenger cabin. The People Movers barely make any noise and make scenic travel easy, efficient, and fun. The vehicles have sliding doors that open from side to side and are very safe; they do not open until it is time to unload at the station. It’s tomorrow’s transportation today. So, you can also say goodbye to stoplights, road accidents, and traffic.

The ride itself is narrated by the son of Cornelius Robinson: Wilbur. Without his dad knowing, Wilbur snuck into the Robinson Control Tower and took control of each vehicle. Passengers will encounter the Bowler Hat Guy when they reach the Innoventions building and get a glimpse of the cosmos as they enter Space Mountain. The track supports will keep their color. The track itself, however, will be thrown out and replaced by thick magnets that are necessary for the pods to move forward. The shrubs and trees surrounding the station will be demolished to make way for a new and improved queue. The queue starts at the entrance of Tomorrowland from under the People Mover track. Switchback lines will take guests to the station, back to the entrance, and then back to the station. Guests will then climb up the futuristic twirled escalators and board their People Mover for a grand circle tour of Tomorrowland 2040.

Robinson Hover Pods
Another ground-breaking form of transportation is the Robinson Hover Pods, an upgraded version of the Astro Orbiter. These “antigravity” vehicles are located on top of the People Mover station. The vehicles are quite similar to the time machine that Wilbur took from his father. They are enclosed by a round pod-like barrier. The vehicles are all colored the same red, white, and gray colors. A large “R” is located on the front of each vehicle. The inside of each vehicle is just as impressive as the outside. A wide control panel is located on the inside. Many buttons flash but only the steering wheel is operational. The steering wheel only allows the vehicle to rock to the left and right while the gear shift allows the pod to rock upward and downward. Side-by-side seating is available for the pods, along with a comfortable lap bar. To keep passengers from getting dizzy, a light breeze of air will be propelled towards them. Basically, it’s the Astro Orbiter with better controlling options, a better view, and an overall better design and theme.

Guests will get to the top of the station by using an elevator similar to the classic Rocket Jets elevator. The difference is that the queue won’t be towards the inside of the station but on the outside. A very small portion of the queue will take place below the tower while the majority of the queue will take place atop Robinson Control Tower (a blue and red tower with blinking red lights). Robinson Control Tower serves as an elevator up on one side and down the other. When guests reach the top floor, they can actually see a Wilbur Robinson AA tampering with the People Mover control panel. Guests will then wait for about 10 minutes on a switchback queue and enter the hover pods. A 200 inch flat screen HD plasma television near the edge of the station will show an interview with Cornelius Robinson as he explains the Hover Pod, his future plans for Tomorrowland, and his upcoming inventions.

Tommorowland Terrace:
Frankie’s Swingin’ Theater
“Where the Future Meets Entertainment”
What will the future have in store for the frog? You can find out here in Frankie’s Swingin’ Theater. In this upbeat show, Franny Robinson (Wilbur’s Mother) will lead a band of frogs through one of the best AA shows you’ll ever see in the future. Franny, along with the other frogs, are animatronics which move in smooth and quick motions. The band will perform songs of their own and then actually play different requested by guests. The system used in the show is quite sophisticated. Over 10,000 songs are programmed into each frog. Frankie will interact with guests, asking questions like “How is everyone doing tonight” and “Excuse me ma’am in the coat, what song would you like to hear?” Hidden cameras capture details from guests while speakers let Frankie know what they want to hear, He’ll then ask the band to play it.

On certain occasions, Frankie will respond “Sorry, but the boys and I don’t know that one. However, we’ll gladly play one of my personal favorites. Franny will then tap her baton on her podium and then move it precisely to how an actual conductor would for that particular song. Some specific frogs can actually snap their fingers realistically, an effect unlike any other. Each frog has a specific job whether it’s drumming, clarinet playing, or saxophone playing. The lead singer, of course, is the talented Frankie. The stage itself is modeled after the Frog Theater in the film. Circular platforms are positioned on the stage. Smooth white spires form the outline of the back area of the stage. A shiny red curtain covers the back area of the stage so the backstage portion won’t be revealed. Spotlights focus on Frankie while yellow bulbs on the platforms flash yellow light while songs play. Finally, to keep the AA’s safe, a curved golden railing will separate guests from the show.

Innoventions- Top Floor
Tomorrowland Bubble-Way
(New Attraction)
Replacing the unexciting exhibits of the top floor of Innoventions is a new way of traveling: bubble travel to be exact. Sure, we’ve seen these in Meet the Robinsons but how can you see them in real life. Find out for yourself, just hop in your two-seated bubble pod and take a thrilling 3d ride thru the freeways of the future. You can say goodbye to traffic. These pods all travel in the air using zero gravity. You or a friend can board your own personal bubble and zoom through the skies at high speeds. There are a total of 20 simulators, each can hold two people. This is the first Disney ride to feature a video screen that covers the entire simulator. Guests will see that if they look back, they’ll see where they’ve been and if they look forward, they’ll see where they’re going. Bubbles will be navigated by a flat control panel on the front of the passenger. A throttle will allow passengers to spin, dive, and flip towards any direction.

The pre-show for the attraction is very straightforward. Guests will enter the Innoventions building and then take a Telo-port machine to a modern bubble-way station. As soon as guests enter through the doors, they’ll be greeted by a kooky little robot AA. The robot, OZ-E, will talk to himself and then greet guests with bursts of energy. This little robot’s job is to fuel the bubble pods, with water of course! After seeing OZ-E, guests will walk down a hallway where they’ll be assigned a number from 1-20. They’ll then enter through the doors of the station and out into the loading dock where the pods will rise off the ground, and guests will take control over them, being sent towards the freeways of Tomorrowland.


The building itself will undergo a refurbishment that will give it a retro-modern appearance. So basically, you’ll see the old Carousel of Progress building with a better, more futuristic look and some new features
The old tower that would display the General Electric logo will return, only as a control tower with a Tomorrowland logo attached on the top. Most of the building glows light green and blue. On certain occasion, the building will be projected with shapes of planets and stars. The sign outside of the building will then rise and spin quickly, creating a clear sphere. When the image of a bubble is projected onto the sphere, it creates a mesmerizing visual image.


Starcade-First Floor
Robinson Tech-Mall
(New Store)

What will the future hold for those who love to shop? You can find out here at Robinson tech-Mall. The mall will replaced both floors of the highly outdated Starcade near Space Mountain. We all know that this is a very limited space, and that is why a new shopping system will be utilized. This system has never been done before at any Disney park in the world. It is so incredibly simple and yet it seems like a giant leap into the future. The interior will be thrown out, as well as the floor and the X-Wing, replaced with a Prototype Robinson time Machine. The transparent ceiling will be discarded so light won’t shed into the mall. The new color scheme is cerulean, stale gray, and white. Also gone are the dirty windows on the side of the building. Hardly any light from the outside will reach the inside.

When guests walk in, they’ll be captivated by the black light fountains, widescreen television monitors, and fiber optic ceiling. The shopping system works as follows: Thick computer monitors with keyboard will be placed all throughout each floor. Each computer will have a separate theme. Themes range from clothes, souvenirs, accessories, toys, CDs, music, etc. Guests will choose the computer that fits into the title of what they want. For example, if someone is looking for a certain t-shirt, they’ll run over to the clothing computer, select the shirt category, pick a character or movie theme, browse through the different shirts, and then make a selection. The computer will inform guests on how much the item costs and if they would like to purchase it. The machine will then automatically vent the item towards guests through a chute connected to a storage area behind the computer.

One certain computer falls under the “Special Items” category. This computer gives up exclusive items such as a customizable Tomorrowland 2040 T-shirt, remote control Robinsons Hover Car, and collectable Tomorrowland retro vehicle models. New items will arrive every week, and to keep guests informed, the widescreen monitors will show future sales, current “What’s Hot?” items, and commercials advertising Tomorrowland’s new attractions. No longer will store-keepers have to deal with the hassle of organizing clothes or giving guests product information. All they need to know is on the computers. Space issues won’t be a problem, especially because the computers hardly take up more than the size of a cabinet. Lines for the computers won’t be very long, and that is because there are 3 computers for every category.

Starcade- Second Floor
Wilbur’s Kitchen
(New restaurant)

The new restaurant will be accessed via escalator. The restaurant will feature a Lunch/dinner menu, salad bar, and dessert table. A technology similar to the shopping system will be used for the new restaurants. Three large widescreen monitors will be placed on each side of the restaurant’s walls. These touch screen monitors will fill everyone’s order by first showing them an electronic menu, displaying the prices, and then allowing the customer to make a selection. Money will be deposited and the order information will be sent to the kitchen where the food will be made. Later, guests will walk down to the pickup zone where they will receive their order. It’s simple yet futuristic. The best part, however, is that there is no need for cashiers. Ordering shouldn’t take more than a minute.

Sandwiches, Salads, and Special Items:
Finding Nemo Submarine Sandwiches- (Create your own submarine sandwich with any toppings desired.)

Autopian Salads- (Choose from any salad including garden salad, caeser salad, or chicken salad.)

ObservatroNuggets- (Crispy chicken nuggets with ketchup and or barbeque sauce)

Cosmo Kabobs- (Scrumptious kabobs with beef, mushrooms, tomatoes, bell peppers, and shrimp.)

Burgers:
Goob Burger- (Don’t be fooled by the name. These steamy burgers are the best in Tomorrowland.
Petunia’s Patty Melts- (Enjoy a burger with grilled onions and cheese)
- Burger specials include an order of Fritz Fries -

Doris’s Desserts
Space Mountain of Ice Cream – (You can eat your way through this “mountain” of ice cream topped with sprinkles, chocolate syrup, cherries, whipped cream, etc.

Bud’s Homemade Brownies- (Bud made these just for you. He even added hot fudge in the center!)

Restaurant Interior
The order and pickup area do not take up much space for the restaurant. That is why most of the area will be occupied by tables and chairs. The main color scheme for the restaurant is different from the shop. Colors of shiny silver and blue will be seen all throughout the area. The clean chrome tables and comfy cushioned chrome chairs will enhance the eating experience. While customers eat, they’ll enjoy character appearances from Wilbur Robinson. The restaurant is very much alive. The time machine that hangs on the ceiling occasionally blinks its lights and the horn honks every now and then. Patterns of space will be projected throughout the room. Guests will see planets zoom past the wall and then glide across the ceiling. The floors will be transparent, so guests will be able to see shoppers below them. Before leaving, children will be given a complementary chocolate chip cookie as a thank you for visiting Wilbur’s Kitchen.

Sorry for the lack of comments. I'm sure Lighttech is more busy than I am, but I have had alot of school projects and an actual social life (for once in my life) to deal with, so I'm pretty booked. So that makes it offical, congrats MaM, you are the offical winner of So You Want to be an Imagineer season 3.


And now for a preview of season 4.......

First off, I will be controlling it, and I'm going to introduce several new twists to spice the game up for the next generation. MaM, if you want to be a judge, that'd be great. I'm not going to fully reveal the twists yet, but let me just say it will involve working together, voting, and more flow between projects. It will probably be the most exciting season yet. I am going to start it some time in November, but I'll be giving you guys updates. I just want to plan it out ahead. The sign up thread will probably show up the first week of November, with the game starting soon afterwards.

Thanks, you guys! I've had a lot of fun on this project and I can't wait to judge next season. BasketBuddy, your projects have been AWESOME. I always looked forward to seeing what ideas you came up with!

Getting a job at Walt Disney Imagineering has been a dream of mine for some time now, so when I found out about this contest, I was ecstatic. It would provide me with practice brainstorming, concept design, and show writing. Thanks again for putting on such a cool contest!

And wow, I'm terrible at acceptance speeches.

Before I say anything else, I want to fully congratulate MaM, you really did a great job this season. Your projects were amazing and brilliant to read. Sure, some flaws, but not enough. thank you for being a part of this season.

However, I think some credit is due to baskettbuddy for being in this competition since the beginning. Though you haven't won... yet... every season, you've gotten alot better, and this season was no exception. Now I'm not saying that MAM doesn't deserve to win, but basketbuddy deserves some respect. I've always enjoyed your projects, and hope to see you again next year. I'll be sure to read oftenly

I've offically decided on a start-date for sign ups, and it's Novemeber 4th. (Yeah, I know, there might be that other little thing going on that day, but I just think from a game perspective it makes sense.) I'm going to introduce the twists on Saturday to give you guys a little heads up. The game will offically begin the first week of December, though I don't have a date for that yet
