Default New Mickey's Theatrical Short based on Literature

Hi everybody,

I was trying to think a new 25 minute Mickey Mouse short based on literature.

For example:
Mickey's Christmas Carol
& The Prince & the Pauper

Then on Mickey Mouse Works or House of Mouse they did Around the World In 80 Days, A Midsummer's Night Dream, and The Nutcracker.

They even made a full length movie of Mickey, Donald, and Goofy in The Three Musketeers.

But, they haven't made a new short for Mickey Mouse since Three Musketeers. Now, I'm trying to wonder which book from literature they should do for Mickey Mouse. I was thinking that they should do A Journey To the Center of the Earth with Mickey, Donald, and Goofy. So I ask everyone for fun which book from literature that Disney can do for Mickey Mouse?

You forgot about Hansel & Grethel starring Mickey & Minnie which was on House of Mouse.

They also have a Mickey and the Beanstalk and Pooh and Friends have done their own version of Frankenstein.

This may not be a theatrical short like you asked for but I've had this idea in the back of my head for a long time now.

Disney's Wonderful Wizard of Oz

This would be a retelling of the classic M.G.M. film and novel of the same name. It would be an animated special to be aired either on ABC or Disney Channel, and heavily advertised to draw in a whole bunch of viewers. Like the 1939 movie, the first part of the movie would start out in Kansas which would be less colorful than the upcoming land of Oz in the second part of the film. Rather than making the whole first half in black and white, all the characters present would be humans rather than the typical talking animal or magical creature, as those come later, once Dorothy and Toto have landed in Oz. Like Mickey's A Christmas Carol, this would be a big cross-over of Disney characters. Like in a Christmas Carol there were Mr. Toad, Robin Hood, Pinocchio, and Mickey and the Beanstalk characters added to the mix of Mickey and his usual friends. This one would expand on the horizon of mingling and mixing Disney characters by putting in characters from such films as Beauty and the Beast and the Jungle Book.

I like that idea Minnie could play Dorothy,Pluto could play Toto,Mickey could play the scarecrow,Goofy as the Tin Man and Donald as the cowardly duck.

Dorothy could be a new character, then have all the Disney folk come in at Oz. Pluto is a good idea for Toto... Like Minnie could be the good which, then Maleficent or the Queen/Hag be the bad one....

OMG! I was thinking the same thing. They must make a theatrical short for Mickey and friends doing Wizard of Oz. That's perfect. I think this will be better than that awful Muppets Wizard of Oz movie. Don't you think?

Well actually this is what I was thinking of as the cast list for the short. I was originally going to post a big summary of the whole thing with attached cast list, but I had to go to school. Like I said this will be a big crossover of Disney characters like Mickey's Christmas Carol, so don't think of this as weird or far-fetched or anything.

So since the first part of the film would be filled with human characters, here is a rough cast list:

Belle- Dorothy, the heroine and star of the show.

Pluto- Toto, Dorothy's lovable and mischevious pooch.

Alcmene (Hercules' adoptive mother)- Aunty Em, Dorothy's kindly and loving aunt whom runs a farm in rural Kansas.

Amphitryon (Hercules' adoptive father)- Uncle Henry, Dorothy's also kind and lovable uncle whom runs a farm in rural Kansas.

Kronk- Kronk, a dimwitted but lovable farm hand whom works on Aunty Em's farm.
Mr. Smee- Smee, yet another dimwitted farm hand who works for Aunty Em and Uncle Henry.

Edgar- Edgar, a butler-like farm hand who absolutely abhors dogs and children, often ignoring Dorothy and Toto when they are in need of something.

Cruella de Vil- Miss Almira Gulch, the wicked bicycle-riding townswoman who absolutely hates dogs and children. Also known as the Wicked Witch of the East in Oz terms.

Frollo- Judge Claude Frollo, the town's wicked judge whom often sides with Miss Gulch to uphold his image and get what he wants with politics.

Professor Porter- Professor Marvel, a kindly fortune teller that tells Dorothy to go back home after she has run away.

Jiminy Cricket- One of the many things seen caught in the tornado as Dorothy flies through it in her house. He is seen holding on to the tip of his hat and his opened umbrella.

Horace Horsecollar and Clarabelle Cow- Both characters are seen in the tornado playing instruments, a nod to "Mickey's Band Concert" and the "Silly Symphony Swings."

Dumbo- Dumbo can also be seen flying through the tornado.

And then here would be the cast of characters seen in Oz. They would start with Jiminy Cricket in the twister and then from that point on pretty much consist of talking animals and other magical beings.

Minnie Mouse- Glinda, the Good Witch of the North. The kindly witch whom welcomes and introduces Dorothy to the Land of Oz.

Donald Duck- The Mayor of Munchkinland. Yet another kind character, the mayor also welcomes Dorothy and thanks her for killing the Wicked Witch of the East.

Munchkins- The Munchkins pretty much consist of all of Disney's humanoid animals, including characters from the Wind and the Willows, Robin Hood, the Three Little Pigs, Song of the South, etc.

Maleficent- The evil Wicked Witch of the West who seeks to take revenge on Dorothy for killing her sister and stealing her shimmering ruby slippers.

Mickey Mouse- A scarecrow whom seems to lack a brain. A fun-loving character who joins Dorothy and Toto on their quest down the yellow brick road.

The Big Bad Wolf- A savage beast that attempts to attack Dorothy and the scarecrow, only to be warded off by the Tin Man.

Goofy- The Tin Man, a heartless tin man whom is rather sheepish and wishes for nothing more than a beating heart.

Simba- The Cowardly Lion, a lion in desperate need of courage. Rather than his appearance and voice in the Lion King, Simba will be a bit more cowardly and timid while remaining to be voiced by Matthew Broderick.

Rutt and Tuke- Two humorous moose that heckle Dorothy and friends as they attempt to cross a large chasm.

Chernabog- The fake face of the Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

The Flying Monkeys- King Louie and his gangs with wings and strange clothes.

Merlin- The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

And more characters would be spotted here and there as well.

It may not sound like much but I think it's pretty good so far.

that sounds really cool, MEW! Belle may not be a good choice for Alice, but the rest I am impressed with

Alice? Don't you mean Dorothy?

Since this will be an adaptation of the 1939 movie and the original book, I'm thinking we should include most of the songs but Mickey, Goofy, and Simba singing the "If I Only Had a" songs might sound a little weird. "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead" can definitely work and "We're Off to the See the Wizard" as well. "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" too. But this won't be a total adaptation of the original movie, there will be many new elements added to the tale, including several only seen in the book by L. Frank Baum, including the whole different appearance to each of the characters when they meet the wizard; including the beautiful woman to the Scarecrow, the giant head to Dorothy, the ravenous beast to the Tin Man, and the great ball of fire to the Cowardly Lion. The Big Bad Wolf will also be included as a monster sent to hault the gang as they make their way towards the lair of the Wicked Witch, as in the original book they were attacked by a pack of wolves sent by the Witch. The crows will also attacked as the Witch (Who is played by Maleficent) will simply clone her own pet crow and make him attack the gang as they get closer and closer. And one thing also seen only in the book is the Cowardly Lion killing a giant spider and freeing the animals of the forest in which it once ruled. He then agrees to be their leader after Dorothy returns home to Kansas. So I'll probably include that scene as well, but that's just a maybe. He won't fight a giant spider either, it will probably be Scar as a nod to the Lion King.

And what sounds better, Mickey's Wizard of Oz or Disney's Wizard of Oz? Or even Mickey's Wonderful Wizard of Oz, or Disney's Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Any suggestions on the title?

oh, darn, there I go again! Alice in Wonderland and Wizard of Oz kind of, but not really have similar plots, so I guess I mixed Dorothy and Alice up!

How about letting Alice play Dorothy instead of Belle and we should write a script and I thought of something funny that in Oz Pluto could talk like a human.

Well I chose Belle because she looks like Judy Garland and has no real heavy accent either. Alice is British and has an accent as well. Dorothy is Kansas-American. Now I understand Belle is French but she just seems more like Dorothy to me. We'll probably figure it out as we go along. I don't know about Pluto talking either, they did that with the Muppets and it made Toto seem funny but I don't know if it would really work with Pluto. Not to be a downer or anything like that.

Its ok and because I always wonder what Pluto would sound like if he spoke human sort've like that chicken from Return to Oz who spoke like for example when it shows Kansas Pluto could only bark and in Oz Pluto could speak and I hope that Goofy the tin man is also clumsy and with the Goofy Holler.

This is getting very interesting and casting was very good. But, I have a suggestion.

This title will be called Mickey's Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

Minnie Mouse as Dorothy
Pluto as Toto
Mickey Mouse as Scarecrow
Goofy as Tin Goof
Donald Duck as The Cowardly Duck
Daisy Duck as Glinda the Good Witch
Witch Hazel from Donald Duck cartoon Trick Or Treat will be The Wicked Witch of the West
or Maleficent will be good too.
and
Professor Ludwig Von Drake should be the Wizard
or Merlin be good too.

The munchkins are fine. Of course, I like to add Chip, Dale, Huey, Dewey, Louie, Morty, Ferdie, Millie, Melody, April, May, & June

Morty & Ferdie are Mickey's nephews
Millie & Melody are Minnie's Nieces
An April, May, & June are Daisy's Nieces

The others are good too. Just a suggestion. And it would of been a double feature with The Princess & the Frog or Rapunzel. And they already found someone to play Mickey Mouse is Bret Iwan and they should put this after the end of the short.

In Loving Memory of
Wayne Allwine
