Red face New Attractions and Entertainment for the Disney Parks, Open Brainstorming

Let's assume for a minute that we are all Imagineers, and the big suits at Disney have asked us to come up with some new attractions and entertainment for the Disney parks along with new gift shops and eateries. That means we can totally do anything we want with the parks, add attractions, subtract attractions, anything. So feel free to pitch whatever you want for the parks! :) Constructive criticism and suggestions are fine for all works, everyone gets to participate and share their ideas, so don't feel shy!

So I guess I'll start off. I've been interested in all the recent Halloween offers at the Disneyland Resort in California, so I've decided to take the concept a little farther and add some new overlays, attractions, and entertainments to the mix of Halloween Time offerings. The first thing I want to add you may ask? A new parade, but not just any old parade oh no, I want to addJack Skellington's Parade of Horrors! Once again Jack plays master of scaremonies as he brings back an entourage of Disney villains and monsters from their defeat to celebrate the "spirit" of Halloween, creating a mobile freak show! Well not as scary as a freak show, but you get what I mean. And never fear Jack has invited Mickey and friends to come join in on the fun so the parade isn't too scary. So without further to do, here is Jack Skellington's Parade of Horrors!

All is dark. A familiar organ starts humming ominously as its unseen organist pounds away at the opening to "Grim Grinning Ghosts." As the music dies down a trinkle of "What's This" plays from an eerie music box. Suddenly the booming voice of Jack Skellington shatters the night, welcoming us to his newest version of Halloween.

Jack: Welcome foolish mortals, to the world of Halloween! This year I've conjured up some new surprises for this very special holiday and I promise you, you won't be disappointed! So just sit back, relax, and enjoy the spirit of the season! Oh and one more thing. Don't forget to scream! As a matter of fact let's try that now! Ready? On three. One, two, three! (Screams) Fantastic! That was horribly wonderful! Now you just stay put, we'll get things going in just a minute!

I have to go to church now but I will add more later...

This sounds like Blue Sky...

Cool.

If you're going for Halloween, I'd like to volunteer for a new Christmas Parade. (I'd say fireworks, but I really think that Believe in holiday Magic is just too wonderful to surpass in the music department. Now if I could make a Christmas show on World of Color, that'd be stellar, but I don't think that'll happen, not for a while, anyways...) Yes, it's a decent parade, but it's more Christmas than Disney, and considering out new theme is Celebrate, I can easily imagine a holiday parade that celebrates both the Holidays and Disney. I'll post my ideas for floats and music in a bit.

I've been thinking up a sequel to PoD like Dreamlights, but unfortunately, I'm nowhere near done with it.... but I will share what I currently have....

Disney’s Parade of Dreams: Dreamin’ On!

Gateway to Dreams

Led by dancing conductors and engineers, both male and female, Donald, dressed as an engineer, drives the leading unit, which is Casey Jr. atop a replica of the Main Street train station, complete with floral Mickey planter. Flora, Fauna, Merrywether, and the Fairy Godmother walk along side the unit, each sporting a wand that becomes a banner waved by each. The music is a remixed version of “Welcome” used in the original parade. Other music mixed in is “Imagination”, “Bippidy Boppidy Boo”, and “The Mickey Mouse Club March”.

Dream of Another World

The White Rabbit walks around on rollerblades, holding a trumpet up to his mouth, followed by the Queen’s Castle, where the Queen of Hearts stands atop the highest tower. Real red and white rose bushes surround the castle, hiding the wheels. Walking closely by the castle are some of the queen’s playing cards. Following the castle is a mini hedge maze, then the tree that features the hole back to the forest. In the forest, the Tweedle twins run around, with the Snooty Caterpillar on a branch above them., The disappearing Cheshire Cat, sitting atop a branch that features a swing with Alice and the Hatter. Jumping flowers walk alongside this float. “All in a Golden Afternoon” and “The Unbirthday Song become intertwined with “Welcome.”

Tink’s fairy friends follow on roller blades and fluttering wings, leading a roving island. On a tree’s branch stands Tinkerbell. She is attached to wires, often coming off the branch to simulate flight. Other fairies swing in and out to spray guests with water or blow bubbles. Tink can often fly around the island, often spreading magic around the island and Jolly Roger. Celtic-style music plays as this float passes by.

Aboard the Jolly Roger are the Darling children and Peter Pan wearing Captain Hook’s Hat. It often glows gold as Tink’s magic is spread around. Following in a rowboat is Mr. Smee, with the Crocodile close by. Its mouth often opens up to reveal a scared Captain Hook. Songs used in this unit are “Following the Leader” and “Second Star to the Right”.

Under the Sea

Following the crocodile is Mr. Ray, Nemo’s teacher. Mr. Ray is actually a puppet on a bicycle, followed by puppets of Nemo and his classmates and a performer wearing a Squirt shell. Quickly following are Marlin and Dory, Nemo’s overprotective father and his forgetful friend Dory. Quickly following by on a large float that emits bubbles are Crush and Bruce. There are stairs of coral so any performer can walk on Crush during a showstop. There’s also a seaweed slide, which provides easy access off Crush. “Just Keep Swimming” plays.

Quickly following the large shark and the sea turtle are dancing scuba divers and more coral reefs, where Sebastian stands, proudly singing about the undersea joys and land life hardships with bubbles being emitted from the holes of the reef. Ariel proudly stands atop a reef, with tons of treasures below her. Bubbles are also emitted from clam shells carrying shiny pearls. “Under the Sea” plays for the entire unit, as well as “Part of Your World”.

Ursula follows close by, same as always with her two trusted cohorts, Flotsam and Jetsam, while “Poor Unfortunate Souls” can be heard.

Immediately following Ursula is giant whale Monstro, while performers hold up fish and walk into Monstro’s mouth, simulating the whale eating the fish.

Stay tuned for a Pinocchio float, followed by Toy Story...

I am also designing a Main Street version of Tower of Terror, loosely based upon Hotel Hightower, and I think you know that I also have a Free-Fall tower, but it's themed more to a hotel converted into a weather station

DHI, I like yours!!

The maze thing also sounds interesting.

As far as mine goes, I need to figure out order, but I know I want a float (or two) for Beauty and the Beast's Enchanted Christmas, one for Return to the Sea because of the ice, one for Peter Pan, another for The Fairies from Sleeping Beauty, Peter Pan and Pinnochio, one with Merlin, Alice, and the Wonderland Denizens, and then four more floats for the Sensational Six:

One with Donald and Genie
Second with Minnie, Bolt, Penny, and Pluto (as well as mittens and Rhino, in a snow-globe like ball)
Third with Goofy, Mary, Bert, the children (this is a holiday merry-go-round with the horses coming on and off the carousel itself as it spins in the middle of the float)
Finale Float with Mickey on a float with assorted characters and a mountain of gifts.

Anyone you think I should include or exclude, and yes, I'm aware they typically don't use sequels in their park materials, but for Beauty and the Beast, it's logical she was there even if you didn't see EC.

Thanks! I'm still working on it, and is it bad that the future unit is shorter than the monster/villain/nightmare unit? (Yes, it features MI, NBC, and villains)

Really I'm going to finish my Halloween parade when I can. I have a lot going on right now and there is a bunch of confusion in my life at the moment. I do have a good idea on what I'm going to do though. The parade will be roughly the same length as the current Christmas Fantasy Parade and since the park has a small amount of Halloween attractions, one of the park's more prominent Halloween Time offerings, along with Haunted Mansion Holiday, Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy, Halloween Screams, a new maze I am planning for Adventureland, Halloween at Big Thunder Ranch, and a Country Bear Halloween show I am planning for California Adventure. But more on the Country Bear thing later.

As a matter of fact I have a whole revival planned for Disneyland's Adventureland but more on that later. Let's just say Aladdin's Oasis and several other objects are a thing of the past.

For Jack Skellington's Parade of Horrors you can count on an entourage of villains not seen at other parks, well some rarely at other parks. Some of these villains (Most of them walk arounds) include Oogie Boogie, Gaston, LeFou, Stromboli, the Coachman, Prince John, the Sheriff of Nottingham, Clayton, Shan Yu, the Jungle Cruise head hunters, and strangely enough the Tyrannosaurus from Fantasia whom is not a walk around character. Also Captain Hook will be reverted to the look of his old costume.

Are you going to have Belle and the Beast on the mobile ice skating rink? They used to have that in the Christmas Fantasy. Also are you going to include the dancing reindeer, gingerbread men, toy soldiers, and snowmen? Also a very long time ago they had dancing teddy bears, ballerinas, clowns, and nutcrackers. But then again the oldest Christmas parade I can remember they had all Disney movies then a bunch of Christmas stuff. You can see it in this video if it helps you with your Christmas parade design. As a matter of fact this parade has a lot of discontinued and interesting floats and characters. Country Bears in baker uniforms?

oh, yes, I forgot to credit an idea to MEW:

the dancing conductors and engineers

If you want me to take them out, just say so and I will be more than happy to oblige :)

"The toy shop door is locked up tight, and everything is quiet for the night, when suddenly the clock strikes twelve, the fun's be-gun!"

I like the ice skating rink idea, and I might have the teddy bear, nutcrackers, ballerinas and other toys as between-float dancers or around certain floats, like the finale float and the opening float, which would have a Christmas Angel, the Nutcracker, Snowmen, children having a snowball fight (and throwing snowball out to the audience), and then a large Christmas Tree with ornaments for each float and then various characters.

My Idea that I've had on mind for a long time is Walt Disney's Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah Parade. More info as I get more time.

Anyhow I'd like to announce two new lands I am creating for two of the parks; Critter Country for Disneyland Paris and Camp Grizzly for California Adventure, but more on that later, meaning once I am done with all the Halloween Time offerings I have in mind.

So far I have come up with a refurbishment for the Haunted Mansion Holiday, a maze for Adventureland, a Heffalump and Woozle takeover in Critter Country, some Disney villain stuff in Fantasyland, Lonesome Ghosts invading Toontown, and of course Jack Skellington's Parade of Horrors. I've decided the parade won't be as scary as I had planned it, instead it will have some mildly scary moments and some mildly cute and funny moments. Think Marc Davis artwork in the style of parade floats. I'm also coming up with a storyline for the show to keep up with the storylines of all the other major Halloween Time offerings including the Haunted Mansion Holiday and Halloween Screams both of which feature Jack as well. Right now my idea for the plot is having Jack Skellington invite Mickey and friends to a Halloween party he's hosting in their honor when Oogie Boogie decides to go and release all of the other Disney villains from their eternal slumber and set them lose on the party and have them crash it once they have been fully revived. This would also explain why the villains are so frequent in other parts of the park.

Villains to expect so far (I'm still thinking of some more villains to add, suggestions are needed):

Walk-Arounds

Captain Hook
Mr. Smee
Maleficent
Cruella Da Villa
Lady Tremaine
The Ugly Stepsisters
The Big Bad Wolf
Brer Fox
Brer Bear
Jungle Cruise Head Hunters
Hatchetman from the Haunted Mansion
Sheriff of Notingham
Prince John
Gaston
LeFou
Shan Yu
Hades
Queen of Hearts
Card Soldiers
Hyenas
Frollo

Puppets and Giant Props

Oogie Boogie
Tyrannosaurus Rex
Scar
Shere Khan
Kaa
Pink Elephants
Heffalumps and Woozles
Chernabog
Maleficent Dragon
Man-eating Plant
Zurg

That for the parade or just characters to find in the park? That's like a small army! not that I wouldn't mind seeing most of these but... this is a bit overkill, even if the non-villain characters are not making appearances during this event (they could be preparing for a showdown of sorts on All Saints Day or Halloween, that would be an EPIC Halloween show). As far as villains go, you left out Ursula.

Yeah I meant for the parade, some of them will be walk arounds around the park, others not so much. Kind of like the gingerbread men and toy soldiers in the Christmas Fantasy parade. Ursula's probably going to be a giant puppet or a really weird looking costume. Most likely a giant puppet.

Jack Skellington's Parade of Horrors

All is dark. A familiar organ starts humming ominously as its unseen organist pounds away at the opening notes of "Grim Grinning Ghosts." As the music dies down a trinkle of the prior song plays from an eerie music box. Suddenly the booming voice of Jack Skellington shatters the night and shushes the music, welcoming us to his newest version of Halloween. All lights around the parade route go out, plunging the streets into a gloomy darkness.

A calm instrumental medley of Disney songs play as guests await the arrival of the parade which unfortunately lies on the other side of the parade route. Continuing to wait in the shadows guests are treated to such instrumental songs as "Jack's Lament," "Poor Unfortunate Souls," "Heffalumps and Woozles," and "Pink Elephants on Parade." Once again Jack's voice rings out, just about two or three minutes before the first unit comes into sight.

Jack: Serpents and spiders, tail of a rat, call in the spirits wherever they're at! Creepies and crawlies, toads in a pond, let there be music from regions beyond!

Jack cackles maniaclly as several other restless spirits cackle and laugh menacingly. The parade route suddenly lights up once more, now glowing an eerie green and purple. "Grim Grinning Ghosts" begins to play, this time taken from the classic Disney sing along songs video, "Disneyland Fun."

YouTube - Grim Grinning Ghosts

As Thurl's deep booming voice starts to sing the parade comes into view, headed by five dancing trees, each with eerie yellow eyes and gnarled, claw-like branches. The trees dance around the street as a very frightened Pooh and Tigger dance around and in between them, often bumping into each other and becoming frightened. Other times they simply walk alongside the enchanted trees and wave to the audience, shaking hands with youngsters and often giving hugs if time permits. Pooh is dressed as a giant orange pumpkin while Tigger is dressed as a straw-filled, straw hat and overall-wearing scarecrow. Both carry trick-or-treat buckets shaped like jack-o-lanterns as they prance about the street.

Jack Skellington Unit- Pooh, Tigger, and the dancing trees signal the arrival of the parade's first unit; a humongous Jack Skellington puppet on a jumbo-sized mobile jack-o-lantern.

Jack shouts out his Halloween greetings and wishes to the audience as he passes by, waving and craning his neck around to get a look at the happy crowd which he is so delighted to be in the presence of. Jack's dialogue will be recorded by Chris Sarandon, but as of right now I don't know what I want him to say, so more on that later.

Pumpkin Soldier Bregade Unit- Following Jack Skellington is a parody of the toy soldiers seen in the Christmas Fantasy parade. A brigade of pumpkin-headed toy soldiers with different facial expressions slowly march by, each blowing into a trumpet or pounding a drum to the tune of "This is Halloween" which has joined "Grim Grinning Ghosts." Rather than the Christmas soldiers, the Halloween soldiers where black armor with green lacing and other details. Their eyes, noses, and mouths also glow green from the inside.

Headstone and Title Unit- A giant cracked headstone rolls down the street, proclaiming the title of the show in bright green letters; "Jack Skellington's Parade of Horrors." Ezra, Phineas, and Gus, otherwise known as the Haunted Mansion's hitchhiking ghosts stand in front of the gravestone, wagging their thumbs out in hopes of one of the lucky audience members taking them home. Male and female ghosts similar to those seen here dance around the mobile headstone and clap as they try to get the audience involved.

Dr. Finklestein Unit- Sally along with several other living rag dolls dance around the street in an eerie marionette-like fashion as Dr. Finklestein's oversized lab comes into view. The giant doctor himself sits in his wheelchair at the top of the lab, examining something through a microscope and often opening his head to scratch the brain inside. The lifeless corpse of his wife to be sits on a metal slab before him, a machine carrying several unique skulls spinning around and testing each and every one on the body of his bride. All three of Jack's bonedeer play around the lab as whistles blow, potions bubble and fizz, steam hisses, and gears and cogs turn. The doctor's extremely odd and distorted assistant Igor can be seen on the backside of the float munching on dog treats. The doctor angrily shouts at the audience, telling them to leave him alone as he is busy with his work. "This is Halloween" and "Grim Grinning Ghosts" continue to play throughout this unit.

Toy Unit- Woody and Buzz march down the street with trick-or-treat buckets, both shaking hands and playing with guests. Right behind them is a toy factory very similar to the one seen in the current Christmas Fantasy parade at Disneyland. A giant ferris wheel filled with strange toys, bones, and jack-o-lanterns spins around in circles as other strange toys and gifts go by on treadmills and sit in corners. Some of these toys include a bright yellow duck on wheels ridden with bloodied bullet holes, a giant yellow and purple striped snake devouring several glowing jack-o-lanterns, zombie-like gingerbread men, ghoulish puppets and marionettes, an evil Mickey Mouse and Donald doll (They're both green with demented eyes and teeth), a Tim Burton-esque train with a ghostly face, a jack-o-lantern-in-the-box and a cat-in-the-box that pop in and out of their storage containers, and of course that darned vampire teddy bear, Scary Teddy. This time Teddy chews on a string of orange Christmas lights as he does in the climax of Haunted Mansion Holiday, childishly giggling as he causes the lights around the parade route to flicker on and off. His little legs move rapidly about as he chews on the lights like dentail floss. Gepetto and Pinocchio march on top of the float, conversing about how much they love Halloween and the spirit of the season. A large inanimate Zurg doll sits in the corner of the room, occasionally lighting up. Several L.G.M.s wearing Halloween eye masks, clown wigs, and funny hats "Oo" and "Aw" as they pass the audience. The RC car can also be seen wearing a party hat and rolling its wheels in place with Lenny the binoculars whom blinks at his surroundings. Towards the back of the float is Mr. Potato Head, Hamm, Rex, and Bo Peep with her sheep, all of them arguing over whose costume is better. Mr. Potato Head is a box of French fries, Hamm is a ham sandwhich, Rex is a ghost, Bo Peep is a witch, and her sheep are dressed as one large three-headed jack-o-lantern.

A demented version of "Parade of the Wooden Soldiers" from the original 2001 Haunted Mansion Holiday plays over "This is Halloween" and "Grim Grinning Ghosts" as they continue to dimly play in the background. "You've Got a Friend in Me" from Toy Story Midway Mania plays very dimly in the area of the unit inhabited by Toy Story characters.

http://www.betterhaunts.com/hmhattic.mp3

Tavern Unit- A gaggle of silly girls sigh and scream shrilly as they run merrily about the street, screaming about Gaston returning to the village from his most recent excursion into the forest to hunt. Sure enough Gaston has returned from the forest and he can be seen in a mobile version of his fabled tavern. Drunken revelers cheer him on as LeFou sings the glories of Gaston in "Gaston" which is played throughout this unit. Sure enough the tavern is decorated entirely by antlers and Gaston can be seen sitting in his big furry chair, juggling eggs and drinking "beer" as he sings his own glories.

Jolly Roger Unit- Pirates dance around and on Captain Hook's ship (The Jolly Roger) as Peter Pan engages in fights with several of them. Wendy watches on in horrors as Mr. Smee frantically runs about the deck. "Yo Ho" and the "Elegant Captain Hook" play as the mobile boat goes by. Right behind the fine pirate galleon is the tick-tock crocodile, emerged halfway above the water, frowning for some reason. We soon find the reason why he is frowning as he opens his mouth to reveal a frightened Captain Hook stuck in a rowboat on his tongue. The poor captain fights for his life with a broken wooden oar at hand. Voiced by Corey Burton, the captain asks and pretty much begs for the mercy of the great beast. The creature's internal clock can be heard loudly ticking away.

Parade of Cards Unit- Several of the Queen of Heart's card soldiers march down the street, led by the pompous queen herself whom swings her fancy scepter around doing fancy tricks with it. Alice, the Mad Hatter, and the White Rabbit himself frantically run about in fear behind the cards as "Grim Grinning Ghosts" continues to play in a sped up form.

Monsters, Inc. Unit- Sulley sits at the reigns of a bike-pulled black hearse as a puppet Mike stands on top of it, shouting out Halloween-related jokes to all the various guests on the side of the street. Many glowing jack-o-lanterns can be seen inside and on top of the hearse. George and Celia walk simultaneously move from side to side of the almost float. Several scream (I guess laughter) canisters can be seen on top of the hearse with Mike, filling up whenever an audience member laughs at one of his jokes.

Goofy's Candy Co.- Chef Goofy sits at the top of his very own candy factory which processes, packages, and creates tons upon thousands of Halloween candy. Hewey, Dewey, Louie, and Max help him as they all converse with each other frantically. Chip and Dale help as well, along with Clarice.

Princess and Prince Unit- Daisy dressed as the fairy godmother waves her wand around as Ariel, Eric, Snow White, Her Prince, Cinderella, Prince Charming, Aurora, Phillip, Tiana, (Frog Prince I forget his name!), Belle, the Beast, Aladdin, and Jasmine waltz around the street to the Grand Hall music from Haunted Mansion Holiday which is a waltz-version of "Kidnap Mr. Sandy Claws" and "Making Christmas." Tinkerbell and her fairy friends back them all.

Hades Unit- Cruella Da Ville, Governor Ratcliffe, Shan Yu, Frollo, Stromboli, Jafar (With Iago at shoulder), and the Evil Queen from Snow White, Lady Tremaine, and the ugly stepsisters patroll the street going all over the place to "frighten" the audience members in preparation of the next float. A darkned and shortened version of Mount Olympus appears based by Pain and Panic who frantically run about the base of the mountain. Hades appears at the top with a Hydra head at each side, both beasts roaring at the audience members as Hades makes some caddy remarks at the various guests around him. Small inanimate versions of the Titans appear on the backside of the float. Brer Fox, Brer Bear, and the Big Bad Wolf back the floor by dancing and running around. "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf" and the prologue from Hercules play during this unit.

Ursula Unit- An exact clone of the Ursula unit from Walt Disney's Parade of Dreams goes by, complete with puppet versions of Floatsem and Jetsem and Ursula's caddy remarks towards the audience members. "Poor Unfortunate Souls" plays during this unit.

Fantasia Unit- Chernabog sits at the front of the float, backed by a massive puppet of the Tyrannosaurus seen in the "Rite of Spring" segment from Fantasia. The great beast roars and hisses at the audience while "Night on Bald Mountain" ferociously plays. Prince John and the Sheriff of Nottingham call the surroundings of this unit home.

Jungle Unit- Pink elephants head the next unit which features a misty jungle of Jungle Book and Lion King style. An eerie and twisted version of "Strangers Like Me" from Tarzan plays as the elephants continue to play their trunks as trumpets and cause all together mischief. Actors dressed as monkeys swing about the rainforest canopy as puppets of Scar, Shere Khan, and Sabor prowl about the float. Scar and Shere Khan talk menacingly with one another while Sabor simply growls and roars at the audience. Kaa hangs from a tree in the back of the float, asking guests to trust in him as his eyes spin in colorful and hypnotic swirls. Several masked and decorated head hunters from the Jungle Cruise chant as they carry poor explorer Donald in a large black cauldron. Donald begs to be let free as he angrily flops his arms about. The head hunters sound exactly the same as they do in the Jungle Cruise. Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed dance around this float like the puppets seen in the Lion King musical on Broadway. "Be Prepared" plays here as well.

Maleficent Unit- Maleficent chants from a top her dragon-marked tower as she shouts incantations at the audience members. Actors and actresses dressed as skeletons roller skate and dance around the tower along with some conjuring cloaked figures with skeleton hands. A remix of "Hellfire" plays during this scene.

Halloween Party Unit- A smaller and mobile version of the Haunted Mansion comes into view, home to several dancing and smiling ghosts seen at the beginning of the parade (Four of them the Lonesome ghosts) and Mickey, Minnie, and Pluto dressed in Halloween costumes having a Halloween party. "I Put a Spell On You" from Hocus Pocus plays as Mickey, Minnie, and Pluto send out their Halloween greetings.

Sandy Claws Unit- The final unit of the parade features Jack once more, along with Zero and the Bonedeer. Jack in his signature Santa Claus outfit sits inside of his coffin sleigh held high over Halloween Town. Jack's bonedeer pull the team as a barking Zero leads it his pumpkin nose glowing in the night. More dopey ghosts dance around the float as Jack sends out his holiday greetings towards the audience. Halloween Town lights up at night, glowing in and out at random. "Grim Grinning Ghosts" is the only song that plays here.

Not as scary as I thought it would be, but I thought it was pretty cute and a normal-sized parade. What'd you think?

18!!! 18 Units!!! HOLY --

Uh, i'm good, I swear, but WOW. Think how long that parade would be! I mean you can't have them going that fast with characters walking in front of and behind every float, and even if most of them are small... uh, not all of them are, and this is by far the longest parade I've ever seen outside the Fair Parade in F-burg! Don't get me wrong, it's a swell idea, but... they'd be there all night. It's like a movie you witness in living color.
