Default How would you improve the Tokyo Disney Resort?

Here is the third in the series of "improving Disney parks" threads, this time focusing on the Tokyo Disney Resort! First off, the resort will be renamed the Tokyo Disneyland Resort. Here again, if you have your own ideas to improve the parks, feel free to add to 'em!

Here are my updates (the first post will focus only on Tokyo Disneyland):

TOKYO DISNEYLAND
ADVENTURELAND
1. Tarzan's Treehouse: The Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse will be replaced by a treehouse home to the King of the Jungle himself.

CRITTER COUNTRY
1. Splash Mountain: See my DL updates: http://www.visionsfantastic.com/foru...69&postcount=6

FANTASYLAND
First and foremost, the entire land will receive an overhaul the likes of which will be akin to the one at Disneyland in 1983.

1. Alice In Wonderland: The Disneyland dark ride comes to Japan, possibly replacing the Mickey Mouse Revue.
2. Dumbo the Flying Elephant: The ride will be updated to include 16 elephants instead of ten. The ride structure will look exactly like the ride in California, but without the fountains underneath.
3. Haunted Mansion: A loose story will be intertwined into the ride, in which an ice ghost named Yuki-Onna lives in the mansion in the form of a bride. She marries men for their money and then kills them off and collects the money. Meanwhile, the Seance Room will be revised to be more like the scene in California, complete with Madam Leota's crystal ball hovering in mid-air.
4. The Hunny Tree: FYL's FOURTH spinner (after cups, Dumbo and carrousel), this swing ride has guests sitting in seats that look like balloons as they swing around the giant honey tree of "Winnie the Pooh" fame.
5. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: Snow White's Adventures will receive a significant revision, to focus less on the Queen/Witch and more on Snow White, and to include a proper closing scene.

TOMORROWLAND
This area will finally receive a more decent update.

1. Meet the Robinsons: A Time-Travel Adventure: This major dark ride will go where the Skyway station and the Grand Circuit Raceway are right now. It's a major dark ride themed to Meet the Robinsons.
2. Orbitron: The Star Jets will be updated to resemble the rockets of WDW.
3. Star Tours: See my DL updates thread: http://www.visionsfantastic.com/foru...52&postcount=1
4. Tron 4D: A new 3D movie, replacing MicroAdventure. See the DL updates for the details.

That's Tokyo Disneyland; what do you think?

I don't really think replacing the Raceway is such a great idea, nor the Tarzan Treehouse taking over the Swiss Family Robinson.

Everything else sounds good though.

Here are the updates for Tokyo DisneySea (as if that one really NEEDS an update! )

TOKYO DISNEYSEA
ARABIAN COAST
1. The Flying Carpets of Aladdin: See the DL improvements for information.

PORT DISCOVERY
1. Mr. Incredible and the Nomanisan Escape: Renamed version of the ride set to replace Innoventions at Disneyland; see that area of improvements for more details.

AMERICAN WATERFRONT
1. Mickey's PhilharMagic: This WDW favorite comes to Japan via this famous area of Tokyo DisneySea.

MERMAID LAGOON
1. Voyages of the Little Mermaid: At long last, a dark ride based on The Little Mermaid finally comes to life! It will look exactly like the ride seen on the PE DVD.

So, what do you think?

How exactly do the Port Discovery and American Waterfront additions work with those particular lands??

Port Discovery: I'm not exactly sure where you were planning on putting the Incredibles attraction, maybe a crossed the water via a bridge? But, I believe Universal has the rights to the technology for about 10 years or so that was going to be used for the Incredibles attraction.

American Waterfront: I dont really think Mickey's PhilharMagic would fit into the land's theme. The only way I could see it fitting in would be to build a new show building themed after an old New York-style theatre. But if you're going to do that, I would much rather see the building have a show that fits its theme. Maybe place Mickey's PhilharMagic in Fantasyland at the park next door. Plus, there's already a show in the park involving 3D show.

The rest of your improvements sounds fine :)

Are you saying that only Universal can use the technology and no one else? Because, to me, that sounds equivalent to, say, Six Flags only can use the technology to create, say, an inverted coaster.

As for PhilharMagic, if you were to look at the scenery inside the attraction, you would know that it's supposed to resemble a period setting, namely, something that, at least I think so, resembles the period supposedly echoing the look of the Waterfront. If memory serves, in fact, there were a few small rumors for Muppet*Vision to come here as well.

And who says there is a maximum limit of only one 3D show per park? Unless I'm mistaken, DCA has two shows, doesn't it?

^ No, what he means is Universal owns the rights to that technology, and if Disney uses it, that's not gonna end up pretty.

You're right but, why cant we create something new instead of the constant carbon copying that is currently taking place? I mean yes, Tokyo Disney Sea does have the occasional attraction that is spotted in another Disney Theme Park but, they have worked around that by designing a new setting for it or what have you. They have even gone to the extent of creating a new storyline for their version of Tower of Terror.
Maybe use the same title but create a new path for its story to follow. Not everything has to be the same, even if you choose to use the same type of storytelling method.
I still think though that it would be better suited for Fantasyland at Tokyo Disneyland.

Muppets: I can actually see that fitting in more. I know both are themed on the inside to resemble movie theatres but the Muppets could easily be placed in The American Waterfront. While neither are really perfect for that area, I would place PhilharMagic in Fantasyland and Muppets in American Waterfront. Where would you suggest placing it though? Maybe next to ToT?

Okay, I guess I see what you mean, but unfortunately, I'm afraid it's physically impossible to put PhilharMagic in Tokyo Disneyland, at least if you look at my plans. But I guess the Muppets would work in the Waterfront, too. But just out of curiosity, how known are the Muppets outside the United States? And it could go near TOT.

As for not carbon copying, how could we do PhilharMagic differently?

1. The ride's soundtrack will be revised thus: the music on the outside as you cruise the outside of the mountain is in the country-western style, but will change to the orchestra style as you enter the mountain.

2. As you pass along beside the big drop, you will hear an Uncle Remus-style narration beginning to tell you the story (in Japanese): "Welcome to a joyful adventure down into the Briar Patch." It's at this point that the orchestral music takes over.

3. Before going down the first drop, you hear Brer Fox saying from his home (a sign points to the location), "That big ol' rabbit won't get away this time. I'll catch him sure!"

4. Brer Turtle will now be accompanying Brer Rabbit outside his Briar Patch home.

6. The hitchhiking alligator has a guitar.

7. As you descend the waterfall into the Laughing Place, you hear the sound of branches breaking as the tree housing the place gives way, followed by Brer Fox and Brer Bear screaming as they supposedly tumble over the falls, followed by a loud splash.

8. There are shining jewels in the Laughing Place tunnel, among the beehives.

9. Brer Frog and Brer Turtle are now seen in the Laughing Place scene, singing "Everybody's Got a Laughing Place". The frog is seen eating honey from a beehive and laughing while the turtle reclines on a small fountain of water.

10. Before you pass by the vultures, you see Brer Bear with a red nose (from getting stung by the bees). He says one of three things at random (in Japanese) with an evil laugh: "You better be sayin' good-bye to Brer Rabbit," "I shoulda knocked his head clean off," and "He said it was a Laughing Place and I ain't laughin'."

11. As you pass below the vultures and make your way up the hill, you hear Remus narrating (in Japanese), "It sure looks like Brer Rabbit's time had done run out for sure. He done used up his whole bag o' tricks."

12. As you make the wide turn in the river to reenter the mountain, you pass below squirt guns disguised as sapling trees on the bridge. Guests on the bridge over the Splash Mountain river can have the opportunity to try and spray you from up there.

13. Much of the return into the mountain is now covered and protected from the elements.

14. The screen displaying your picture being taken of you going down the plunge is displayed.

15. During this same scene, the Remus-type narrator says (in, you guessed it, Japanese), "Well, that Brer Rabbit sure learned his lesson and so did Brer Fox. And it's like I always say: you can't run away from trouble; they're ain't no place that far."

Just so you know, that list up there is for how to improve Tokyo's Splash Mountain.

I've also decided to replace the old Tokyo Disneyland logo with a new one. Here's a link to the new one (it uses the same castle as the old logo): http://img502.imageshack.us/my.php?i...tdllogoxs9.jpg.

What do you think?

Here's how the old Dumbo ride at Tokyo looked like: it looks quite old; the structure is outdated; there are only ten Dumbos instead of 16; even the spot where Timothy stands is outdated (the disco ball). Here's a link to the ride to show you specifically what I mean: http://www.tdrfan.com/tdl/fantasyland/dumbo/index.htm.

Here's how the new Dumbo ride at Tokyo will look like: 16 Dumbos instead of 10 and the structure will look more like the one at Disneyland in California, complete with Timothy holding the whip instead of the feather and the hot-air balloon on which he's perched is rainbow-type instead of just simply red and white-striped (as is the case in Florida, France and Hong Kong). However, there will be no fountain underneath the structure, like the versions in California, France and Hong Kong.

In the end, it will look kinda like WDW's present-day version, but with the rainbow-colored balloon and Timothy holding a whip instead of a feather (both of which are found at Disneyland's version).

Here's an image showing what Tokyo Disneyland's new Dumbo ride should look like in the end: http://img168.imageshack.us/my.php?i...dldumboce6.jpg.

As you can see by the people riding it and the woman in the foreground, it's actually the version found at Walt Disney World with a red-and-white-striped balloon on the structure instead of a rainbow balloon (seen in Disneyland). This picture, combining the WDW version (which has no fountain pool under the structure, like it does at Disneyland) with Disneyland's balloon, will be the version found at Tokyo Disneyland.

Anyway, what do you think?

Here is an actual image of what the new Tokyo Disneyland logo should look like.

Seriously, I would like to have some people here post some comments.

And here is a picture of what TDL's Dumbo ride looks like:
Looks a little bit past its prime, isn't it?

And here is a picture of what my idea for a new Dumbo ride for TDL should look like:

As you can see, it's actually Walt Disney World's version (note particularly the woman in the foreground). And the balloon seen here is the rainbow-colored one from Disneyland. But this is the version that I'm thinking of using for Tokyo. Aside from DL and TDL, all other versions of the ride's balloon is red-and-white-striped instead of rainbow-colored. So if you can imagine the third picture of the ride being populated mostly by Japanese people like in the second picture, you've got the idea for what to expect in my updated Dumbo ride for TDL. It features 16 elephants instead of ten, just like ALL other versions.
