Question Toy Story Mania Holiday?

Toy Story Mania Holiday?

Should Toy Story Mania be rethemed for Halloween?

Orange County Register
Toy Story Mania has been open for a month now at Disney’s California Adventure. And as the ride’s new technology has been stressed, one of the major features is the ability to quickly change the ride’s theme by writing new software. As players launch virtual eggs, balls and darts at screens they could just as easily be throwing virtual pies, turkey legs and corn at screens for a Thanksgiving-themed Toy Story Mania.

In an interview with Kevin Rice, vice president of Interactive Product Development for Walt Disney Imagineering, on the day Toy Story Mania opened we asked him about the possibility for holiday-themed Toy Story changes. While he did not talk of current plans for new holiday themes for the ride, we asked him which season would be the most fun to do with Toy Story Mania. His response? Halloween.

“I think in the world of toys, you can always do something fun with Halloween,” he said.

That would be a fun thing to incorporate into the ride. I think they may want to wait a year or two before attempting this though. Let everyone have fun with it first.

I like the idea

One thing I have wondered though, how come Rex and Slinky Dog aren't in the ride? Is it because both their voice actors passed away?

Rex's voice actor Wallace Shawn hasn't died. He is still acting and doing voice overs as well as stage.

^ Isn't he the guy from Princess' Bride too? Huh...my dad lied...Sorry 'bout that.

EDIT: I looked at his IMDB page, and it doesn't say he's dead. Well, anyway, why aren;t the two in TSM?

He's also at the prize booth and, if I'm correct, he just might be the only character who makes a comment at every game.

But on this subject, I'd just want to know this: would you shoot with or at pumpkins? Plus, would there be Holiday Christmastime version (i.e., shooting ornaments at North Pole targets or rings at dreidles)?

I agree with executioner, I think they need to wait 2-3 years before doing any overlays. It would be pretty easy for them to do. Maybe add in some fake snow, and some fake plastic christmas trees, make another software and go from there.

Yeah cause if you think about it, it would make more sense to wait till the popularity of the ride started to dwindle before adding an overlay for a holiday theming. That way it spikes the interest again in the ride drawing more visitors. Unless of course the park itself is not seeing the crowds it should, hence Rockin' California Screamin'. But that too had already been out for quite a few years before the overlay.

I'm not sure how/why waiting 2-3 years is a good idea. Waiting for crowds to die before trying to resurrect them includes having interest in the attraction die, and that's not a good thing. If they want to do a Halloween & a Holiday theme for the games this year, then by all means go for it. Gives something to put in the Halloween & Holiday marketing stuffs that DCA certainly didn't have before.

Well, in 2-3 years when its popularity dies down, they could start up doing a haloween theme, and a christmas theme. If they start doing that now, people will also get bored of that, and in two years when they want to get people into the park, they could bust out an overlay and say yay christmas overlay come to the parks! It won't work becuase everyone has already seen it. The next few years are going to be bad for business, infact any business in the US, if they have options like that open, it could help them out.

^ So you're saying Haunted Mansion Holiday & Small World Holiday that've not changed in quite a few years are failures because they're old? That's not what I see during that time of year.

Halloween/Christmas overlays are fine if they're done right & people like them. If it's good enough, it can run for many years. That being said, Midway does have the advantage of easily changing its normal version, Halloween version, Holiday version, St. Patrick's Day version, Ash Wednesday version, and Tuesday Before Last Monday version rather easily since it'd simply be a matter of tweaking a computer program seen on a big screen.
