Default New Star Tours rumor (merged)

CNET News has a piece on Industrial Light & Magic's Hayden Landis, and his work on Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The end of the article reads:
Quote:
Next up for Landis is another nostalgia-oriented project--a redo of the Star Tours ride at Disneyland. The big question...will Captain EO make a comeback?

I won't believe it until it's officially announced by Disney.

Interesting indeed... Hope it's true. Star Tours (as great as it is) needs a refurb and a new style to it. I would love to see this happen. Thanks for the report Ezra.

I wonder when Disney will announce this, if true?

Don't we have enough 3-D films though? Plus I don't think it'd be realistic for ice crystal spikes to be poking in through the front window on the space shuttle. Im glad because Im always so annoyed by the quality of the film. Is very dirty and scratched for all its years of use. And I bet there going to use digital projectors, because they're much easier to use, they don't have to rewind the film or anything. They also need to spruce up those simulators, because if your sitting next to the door, you can hear all the hydraulics, or pneumatics outside the door. And I don't remember hearing that about five years ago. Well now that Indy is done, and Star wars is done, Lucas has got nowhere to turn back to cept for ST. Or he can create a new path and do his Star Wars CGI but I saw some of those and never really liked them. I believe they were on cartoon network right before adult swim.

I think it would be cool to redo it. Imagine the possibilities with the technology now.

Well Ezra posted this thread because there has obviously been some more "news" about it. I heard from someone at work that he also received and article stated that someone who works for industrial light and magic or something like that leaked out info about lucas working on star tours. Lucas himself even said something about it. Keep yer eyes open dont just shunt out this rumor because "oh ive heard it plenty" well im sure you didnt hear about that til Ez posted it.

Even though Ezra is very much appreciated as our "news man", I'm sure that other people have heard this from other sources.

Cool New whispers of old rumors

I appreciate the vote of confidence, but if I thought it was "news" I would have posted it there instead. This is just one ILM guy talking too much. He may just be repeating something he "heard at work" that isn't true.

There's been rumors about this for years. Last year Anthony Edwards (C3P0) said that he recorded some new material for Star Tours. And a couple of years before George Lucas dropped some hints about it, but said he was busy. Who knows when, or if, it will ever really happen.

I know it's nothing new. I could have ressurected an old thread to post this in, but there's like 5 of them... our archives are very messy.

Actually, this isn't totally true. Lucas has a lot of projects in the fire. First and foremost is the Clone Wars animated feature and television series that will premiere later this year. Then, there is a live-action television show which will premiere in 2009.

Beyond that, Lucasfilm is constantly busy working on side projects and the like for various other production companies.

^What I meant is he has not older projects to expand. I haven't seen to many new things out of lucas. There were six star wars movies, four indiana jones movies. Now that most of those are finished, he's got nowhere to go except to continue on with new projects, or if he wants to expand, he's got star tours.

Like the 3rd park rumor, the new Star Tours rumor is the rumor that will never die. It lies comatose on the bed for a while waiting for something new like this to give it a pulse again for a while, and then it just goes back to comatose again.

ILM works on so many projects but only a very small percentage of those projects ever make it out of their grasp and into the realm of the consumer. Just because an ILM guy does some work on an idea is NOT a guarantee by any means that any sort of new Star Tours is going to be coming soon. Maybe more will come out of this at some point down the road, maybe not, but for right now, I'm not losing sleep over it.

Hey Ez... didn't Anthony Daniels play C-3PO?
