Default Jungle Cruise to Indiana Jones

I heard an interesting story the other day from a CM. That when they were building Indy they wanted to alter the route of the Jungle Cruise so the cruise would lead to the Indy ride. But they nixed the idea because it would completely change the atmosphere of the Jungle Cruise. And they didn't want to change it since its one of the oldest rides.

Interesting.
(Please don't murder me if its not true. I just thought people would enjoy pondering this.)

That is true.

This quote is from page 163 of Kevin Yee and Jason Schulz's Magic Quizdom: Disneylandia Minutiae Semper Absurda:
Quote:
What was the original concept for an Indiana Jones ride in Adventureland? The initial concept called for not one ride, but two: a jeep transport ride such as we have now (if a bit tamer), and a mine-train car chase that would have resembled a roller coaster, as inspired by the sequence in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. (A mine-car roller coaster similar to that envisioned for Disneyland in California was built for Disneyland Park Paris.) In fact, the same sort of overlapping view we enjoy of Splash Mountain from the Disneyland Railroad was also proposed for Indy, with both the Jungle Cruise and the Disneyland railroad skirting by a brand central chamber in which the two new kinetic rides would be visible. When the project was scaled back to one ride, the transports benefited by becoming "simulator-enhanced" to turbo-charge the experience. The attraction was spearheaded by Imagineers Skip Lange and Susan Bonds, based on renderings and ideas by Herb Ryman and Tony Baxter. Dave Durham programmed the transports used in the attractions, as well as the ones used in Dinosaur (a similar attraction at Walt Disney World Resort, then named Countdown to Extinction) and Cosmic Waves, the interactive fountain in Tomorrowland.
There's also concept art that clearly shows this on on page 33 of Jeff Kurtti and Bruce Gordon's Art of Disneyland.

Ya I thought that would be SO COOL, but then you think about it and realize that you don't really want the Jungle Cruise to change completely and forever.

And sometimes it would be a pain to always have to ride the Jungle Cruise to get to Indy.

It woudn't have been like that. The Jungle Cruise would include a brief preview of Indy, but Indy's two attractions would have had their own entrances.

Let's get facts straight here. They weren't concerned with the integrity of Jungle Cruise, or else they wouldn't have added mentions of Indy to the spiel in the beginning of the jungle cruise. That famous concept aren't scene that never was was just one of very many budget cuts that Indiana Jones Adventure went through over its development/construction years. Same reason those diamond-shaped stones don't do anything.

If they really were concerned with preserving one of the oldest rides, their priorities sure changed with Pirates of the Caribbean among others.

Im sorry if I've anger any by saying this but you all need to understand why they did what they did to pirates. They didnt do it for the people that grew up with the ride who love the none jack pirates ride. They did it for the kids they are trying to stay with the times they arent going to make everyone happy. They can do what they want and yeah in a sense they made a good decision with the ride because they always have a line and thats what they want. Ok to go to the topic at hand if you want to see the concept art the jungle crouse going though indy just look for the art work at the park they have it up.

Oh, we understand that completely.

I don't think there is a doubt in anyone's mind that when Disney changed Pirates they didn't do it for those interested in the dignity of that classic attraction. I'm sure there is no confusion there.
