Oh brother!

Westcot was the "Origional" DCA. But they didnt build it because it would of been in the billions and Disney didnt want to fork over the money so they built plain old DCA.

i live in Scottsdale, AZ. that rumor has been going around for the last 10yrs. they were to build the park between Tucson and Phoenix and for some reason it never has gone through. also it would be to hot to have a park out here unless it was a water park.

If its a hotel resort, spa, or golf resort that would make some sense and be possible. However, if its a major theme park resort destination, its far from having any truth.

Its Geographically not possible to build a "Disneyland" Theme Park destination in Arizona let alone the rest of the country. To build a large scale Disney theme park property will never happen due to a few key following factors:
  • The existing 2 resorts (DLR & WDW) are built to attract a larger regional market than the local population center that regular theme park. DLR attracts guests from the Western US and WDW attracts guests from the South and the Atlantic States.
  • No other major international tourism magnets/icons in the locality
  • Too close to the Disneyland Resort
  • Temperatures that average over 100F (sometimes they reach 120F) and extraordinarily dry weather during a peak summer season would be too hot for a Disney Park, unbearable to most out of town visitors.
  • Only 6 million live in the entire state (and only 950K live in Pima County-the large sized county where Tuscon is) compare that to 15 million that live in the Greater Los Angeles Area and the 17 million that live in the State in Florida.
  • Phoenix & Tuscon do not the infrastructure nor the location advantage for International tourism on a large scale. They are land-locked cities & Rental Car Taxes in Sky Harbor Int'l Airport are astronomical compared to other major tourist destinations. The airports are simply not equipped for a tourism market
Simply put...It would cost Disney too much and it would hardly bring in the revenue needed to maintain it.

Just a random thought on the weather here...

They didn't really make the smartest moves weather-wise with the two USA resorts. You have Anaheim, which, you could do worse in in the SoCal area, but it does have it's periods of heat and pretty sharp cold as well.

And then we have the 95 degree 95% humidity weather of Central FL. That and the 100-120 degree days of the AZ area are pretty much a dead heat (booooo!) in terms of their effect on the body.

Don't take this as any further news on the subject, just my personal midnight musings about climate choices.

I recently read a newspaper article on this subject debunking rumors that any disney, 6 flags, or any other park will be built in AZ. It's simply a never ending rumor that has no truth. Disney did however own some property in AZ over by arrowhead, but they sold it a long time ago.

But wouldn't it be cool for Disney to find a way to revolutionize the industry by finding a way to make a cold weather park? That way they could build it in like Colorado (lol cuz I live here) where they could make a ton of money because of all the tourists coming for ski season.

^---- WELL.....Technicly they could...... Build a Disney park inside! With a projected sky. Actually that would be awesome! And during parades they could do cool stuff with the roof. Then they could have a projected firework show, but insted of it being an actual firework show it could just be non-stop fireworks. That would make for an awesome park. Plus disney is great at creating realistic outdoors inside. Look at the blue bayue. It really feels like night.

The problem with a cold weather park is ... how are people going to get to it when they have to drive through snow, icy roads, and blizzard conditions. Same thing can be said with hot weather areas, you don't wan't to spend 14+ hours in 120F heat (like Arizona). Though not perfect weather, SoCal weather (particularly OC) is probably the best weather climate you can find to operate a theme park with no extremely cold days nor extremely hot days and plus limited and tamer rainstorms.
