Default Disneyland Mexico

I heard a huge rumor of a Disneyland Mexico, and the last thing I heard was that construction already started, the location is supposed to be between the cities of Saltillo and Torreon, both in the state of Coahuila, and friends of mine who travel there often tell me that construction has really started, not only Disneyland but Good Neighbor Hotels as well, heard anything about it?

No, no...and no. It's not happening, Disney can't afford it.

That's weird. maybe isn't disney, it's just another Park, like Six Flags or something, but if they do, it'll be cool to see a new park!

There's a Six Flags near Mexico City already.

What I meant by can't afford it is the can't afford putting another resort in a 3rd (or is it 2nd) world country. Mexico's proximity is still too close to DLR, and having another Disney Resort at all for the next 50 years is just a bad idea in general.

^ Remember that this thread says that is being built on Coahuila, not Mexico City

I doubt they will since 2 theme parks are so near to Mexico already. In fact, I think that we should make our current parks better before building new ones that are probably identical to another Disney Theme Park.

Oh god, please no!!

Mexico?! There isn't nearly enough economic basis on which to build a Disneyland. Besides, Disneyland and DCA are so close to Mexico that it would an incredibly dumb idea to build a Mexico resort. Disneyland Paris has a hard enough time and it's surrounded by wealthy Euorpean countries. I say pass on Mexico.

Disney would have already stated something about one being built or going to be built anyway.

Disney has no plans to build any more theme parks in the near future.

Based on your comments I believe that you dont know my country at all, if I may remind you, Mexico city is the largest city in the world, and our country's top 5 cities' income is quite large, in fact, that amount of money is enough to keep most of southamerica running (excluding argentina, brazil, and other countries in good shape), so though this is a rumor, you cannot judge my country by what you see in the news, or what you think you know.

That's the current position of Disney, and so should be enough to dispel this rumor.

Actually, last I checked, yours is the 10th largest city in the world (based on population) or the 8th largest (based on square mileage). Sorry for using Wikipedia, but I can't exactly link to my 2007 World Book Atlas... but Wikipedia confirms exactly what's in my World Book.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of..._by_population

And I actually found your statement rather patronizing and nativist. Of course we can't judge a country based on news reports alone, but isn't judgement just people's opinions and resulting actions on a subject? You only know what you think you know, of course, so your statement effectively prevents outsiders from making judgements upon your nation.

Personally, I concur with tomserwin, and don't think that Mexico currently has enough of an economic base (in terms of sheer tourist demand - "want, willingness, and ability to purchase") to justify a Disneyland Mexico, especially in Coahuila.

^Well said uscfan7690.

If we were looking strictly at population, than I would say India is a great location. Mexico too.

But if we are looking at other factors like... oh, I don't know... demand, cost, demographics, geographics, or anything along those lines, then I would be compelled to say no to India. Mexico too.

Also it would probably be wise to avoid anywhere in South America, Central America, Africa, Eastern Europe, or anywhere above that Artic Circle. Anything ending in "-stan" would likely be a bad choice as well.

^Or the moon.

There are probably too many parks as it is. The USA is very affluent, as is Japan. They can support Disney parks very well. Paris isn't doing too great and it is right next to England, Spain, Italy, Germany, etc. Somehow I don't think creating an incredibly expensive park that cost millions of dollars every day to operate will yield productive results in Georiga (the country, not the state), Uganda, Belize, or Greenland. There are just not enough economical benefits to build there. Besides, every time a new park is built the demand for the already existing parks drops, which means less money goin to those parks.

This rumor has been pretty well debunked, but I think the author has a point in that we do need to be respectful of the countries where our members come from.

In the initial statement, when he said they were building "good neighbor hotels" made me realize this was an urban legend. Disney doesn't build "good neighbor" hotels, that term references non-Disney hotels that are close by and have an agreement with the Disney Corporation.
