Default What Camcorder & Editing Software do you use?

Hey everyone,

As you can see, I'm new here so I don't know when this was last discussed. I wanted to know which camcorder and editing software others use.

I'm currently using a Sony TRV-30 MiniDV and Pinnacle Studio 9 Plus. I've really had good luck with both of these. Older versions of Studio I have used has been full of bugs so I was not sure about getting Studio 9 but it has been great. All of my DVDs have rendered with no problems (knock on wood;-) )

So, what do you use for video?

I use a sony Mini Dv Camercorder right now and I use Sony Vegas Video 6.0 to do my video editing and Sony DVD Architect 3.0 for making DVD's. I bought the software directly from Sony on-line

Pinnacle I think just released Version 10.0 of Studio

I didn't know they had Studio 10. Mine is actually Studio 9.4. I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the info.

Studio 9 was so bugged for me I threw it away. Premiere Elements didn`t like my machine (and it`s not exactly a slow PC) or vide-versa, so I`m still using Movie Maker 2 (stop sniggering at the back!) for all my web based vids.

Camera wise it`s a 3 chip Panasonic Mini DV from about 5 years ago - still works fine (and has survived the odd *ahem* clunk and atmospheric anomoly now and then too)

Movier Maker 2 is incredibly underrated. There are so many "hacks" and add-ons you can get for it, and of course, because it's so "simple" it runs very smoothly and efficiently, whereas larger and more complex editors like Adobe and the like can be downright painful to use because they are so bloated with features that very few people would ever use.

iMovie is really nice and simplistic for that same reason. I and many people I know who have Final Cut Pro still use iMovie if we're just doing simplistic video editing because it's so straight forward and easy to use.

I use a Sony TRV22 Mini DV camera.

I use the above mentioned Adobe Premiere Pro. It is a steep learning curve but the control is gives me is incredible. It was a long process to become very comfortable with the program but I am glad I invested the time.

When I used Studio 7 & 8, I did have a ton of problems rendering any video that was over something like 10 min. in length. It got to the point where I lost all interest in editing. I tried a friends Premiere and was totally lost. I also tried Video Explosion (? I think that was the name). It couldn't do anything with audio as far as I could tell so back it went.

After almost a year of no editing I read about the new Studio 9 Plus. I figured it would be the same thing but gave it a try anyway. This program works great for me. I've rendered every video with no problems. Some are over an hour long. Too bad others still have trouble with it because it's easy to use and you can do quite a few cool things with it.

Anyway, I like my Sony TRV30. It has a built in digital camera and magic stick slot that I've never used in the 4 years I've owned it. Kind of a waste of money. Oh Well!

I wish I understood Premiere more. It looks like a great program but its more learning than I have time for. I know my friend who uses it can produce some professional looking videos. He even made his own version of Star Wars with about 6 people to act out his script. Let's just say he hopes to work for ILM someday.

I don't have a camcorder right now. But I use Movie Maker because it's very easy to use.

The Same Goes for Sony Vegas Video 6. There is a steep learning curve but it is incredile once you understand it. Have been learning Vegas Video 4,5,6 for about 3 Years on the side but I love it

Does anyone use one of those camcorders that burns directly to a DVD instead of DV tape? I was wondering how well they work. Also, how long can you record on one dvd? How much are the dvds?

I havn`t got one, but the DVD `corders I`ve read about burn to MPEG4 (not DV quality) - and even then to an hour max for the best quality. Again, don`t quote me, but I`d check carefully if you were thinking about one.

No. I'm not really thinking about getting one. I was just wonering how the people who have one like them. I'm not sure I would like this type of camcorder. But if they have some good points, I wanted to read about them from someone who actually uses one.
