Default videotaping fireworks show?!

OK I am going to the DLR on July 26-29 and I need some advice on filming the fireworks show.
Last time I went to DL was on new years eve and I was taping the show and my video camera kept going in and out of focus and getting blury> Does any one know why this happens.? Is there a wrong setting or something or is it because of all of the lights. I have a panasonic digital video camera. I don't know if this helps but the number is PV-GS36. Thanks alot if anyone can give me advice.

Were you manually trying to keep the shot in focus? Or was your camcorder on AutoFocus?

What happened was your camcoder was on auto focus and when the sky was empty it would go into search mode trying to focus on something.

Shut off your autofocus and do it by hand. You can set it for infinity because the fireworks are far enough away that you should have no problem.

Something else to consider trying is changing the exposure setting. If your camcorder allows you to increase or decrease the exposure level, you might want to reduce it a bit. This is because fireworks (or other nightime shots) are bright pinpoints of light on a largely dark sky - and sometimes auto-exposure can over-compensate for this and make those points of light just TOO bright, thus burning them out and losing the colour. A perfect example of this is at WDW; when shooting the globe in the Illuminations nightime show at EPCOT, auto-exposure turns it all white and loses a lot of the detail.

Might be worth thinking about, anyway.
