Default Videos for iPod

Have any of our great video contributors considered creating iPod versions of their videos? I recently downloaded both Remember & Believe created by someone on another site and they actually looked really good, even on the small iPod screen. Would be great to be able to carry a Disneyland collection of videos on the iPod.

my brother said you need quicktime pro 7.0 and you can put RU42's fine videos to your iPod video, or do you need to resize them?

I thought I read that that only works for mac computers. If it will work for windows and will convert .wmv files, I have no problem paying for quicktime pro to do it. Hopefully, someone here on the board will know if it can be done.

Yeah, I learned the hard way that quicktime pro doesn't convert .wmv files. Fortunately, there are plenty of other programs that do. Someone mentioned the Videora iPod Video Converter, which is a free program.

A friend recommended Videora to me last night and I gave it a try. It worked really well on most of the videos. One glitch I've noticed on a couple of the videos is a sync issue. The video will start fine but sometime during the play, the video gets ahead of the audio. I'll try to re-encode them since it may only happen sporadically as some of the videos were just fine.

I have a windows computer and I use QuickTime Pro 7 to convert my .avi files so they can be viewed on the new video iPods. It seems to work really well. You can check out my videos by searching for "Bringing Disneyland Home" in the podcast search engine.

Once you have your video converted you need to upload it to a web server and write a .xml file so that iTunes canb access it. From then on, just keep adding videos and update your .xml file.

Good Luck RU42. Your videos will be a great addition to the Podcast community.

Oakfan - maybe you can help me.

I used videora to convert an AVI to MP4 format. When I play it with QT7 all I get is the audio, no video. Any ideas what may be happening. I don't want to convert many files and not have them work.

I can go to iTunes and preview some music videos and they play with QT7 but I am not sure if those previews are QT movies or MP4.

Do you have any suggestions?

From my website:

Hey everyone. I?ll try to give you some tips on how to create videos an upload them for an iTunes podcast.

Here are the steps needed to create your own video podcast.

1. Shoot your video content
2. Edit and save as .avi
3. Compress: (Export to iPod)
4. Create XML doc
5. Upload files to your server
6. Submit your podcast to iTunes

Once you?ve shot and edited your .avi video, you need to compress the video to 320 x 240 running at about 700kbps. To do this, you should use QuickTime version 7.0.3 and higher. There is a setting in QuickTime Player Pro called ?Export to iPod (320x240)?. Use this setting when compressing you video and the proper configuration for iPod videos is automatically set. Easy, right?

A tip I would like to add here. Keep your videos to a reasonable length. I try to keep them less than 10 minutes. Any more than that and you will be spending hours and hours compressing your video. Also, if you do submit a video podcast to iTunes, plan on lots of bandwidth getting chewed up. The subscription thing tends to have a snowball effect. If you want to post a lot of videos and have them all available at once, be sure to keep an eye on your bandwidth. You?ve been warned.

Now the not so easy part. Creating the XML file. The XML file is a text file that tells iTunes ?this is the name of the video, and this is where the video is located?. I learned the hard way that you should only use a ?pure? text editor like Notepad. I tried to use Dreamweaver and was trouble shooting for hours. I finally switched to Notepad from a tip I got on the net and ?TAA-DAA? no more problems.

Once you have your compressed video and XML file complete you need to upload them to your web server via an FTP application or using your favorite web design application. I use CuteFTP, which works great and is easy to use.

Now, just go to iTunes and submit your video podcast by clicking on the ?submit podcast? button and providing the link to your XML file. If all goes well, your podcast should appear in the directory in a day or two.

GOOD LUCK!

Here is a great place to get more info on creating a podcast. It has a sample XML file that you can cut and paste to give you a head start.

You don't need a Video iPod or any other portable player to enjoy iTunes. You only need to download and install the free iTunes software from Apple.com.

With iTunes you can download individual podcast episodes, subscribe to your favorite podcasts, watch videos, listen to and buy music and listen to internet radio all from your computer. If you are reading this post, you have everthing you need (A computer and an internet connection).

Give it a try and check out my video podcast

I just posted episode #5 to my video podcast. It's a short video from Haunted Mansion Holiday 2001. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Default VF Videos on IPod

I didn't see any thread like this if there is one.

Okay, other than the two RU42 videos, (which were great) I can't get any other videos to work in Itunes. Is it even possible to use videos from this site other than the two already formatted?
