I suggest purchasing Quicktime Pro. It will convert the materials you need to MP4 or m4v format.

...not been my experience at all... usually my experience has been that what's 'free' is a crippled or limited version and you have to pay $$ for the real version. I don't mind that companies are trying to make money, what bothers me when they advertise 'free' that you really can't use at all.

If you're downloading someone else's software from limewire or something, than that's stealing, and if it has a nasty virus loaded inside of it that crashes your computer, than you really got what you deserved (besides, it's a little fun to rebuild your computer, as long as those files are backed up!).

Doesn't this whole thread belong in the "AUDIO/VIDEO Questions" section?

Let's just move it on over!

I bought quicktimepro a while ago and couldn't figure out how to convert videos. I'm not computer savy at all and couldn't figure what I was doing wrong at all. Can some one please explain how to convert the files for me using quicktimepro? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

you'll have to learn a bit about settings for whichever format you're choosing(you're likely only choosing mpeg4 or quicktime movie most of the time)

While we're on this subject: I have an AMD athalon 900MHz with 1gig of RAM. I want to transfer video from my Digital 8 camcorder to my computer. I have one big question. Now, without laughing at me, do I have enough horsepower or do I need to upgrade?

A big part of the transfer is your hard drive access speed. If your hard drive is full and hasn't been optimized (defragged, etc) you may run into encoding problems. 900mhz is pretty darn slow, but it also depends what operating system you're running. I can imagine it runs a bit slow if you're running XP.
