Default Problem with player?

Has anybody else had a problem with playback while listening in? I have this issue that occurs everytime a new song starts up. The song will go in fast forward or something. It will just start skipping ahead, even though the "time" shown doesn't advance. I usually have to close the player and re-open it, but even that doesn't work, or sometimes it just happens again after the player opens. I listen to VF Radio using Quicktime both at work (shhh!) and at home. My home PC has the latest version...I am not sure about my work PC. Any suggestions as to what I can fix. The problem is the same at home and work.

Thanks,

Yeah, that's happening to me, too, now! iTunes 8 on my newly wiped computer.

same problem here. what i do (on iTunes) is create a playlist that has 5 or 6 vf radios in it. Then put it on repeat mode. That way, when it advances to the next song, it advances onto another VF radio. then when it gets to the last one, the playlist starts over. However it yould be nice not to have the problem tho......
-Hope that helps!!!!!!!

That seems to be the remedy... Unfortunately, the server at times underruns on the buffer. You can try to increase your buffer size, as well as the VF Radio Playlist technique mentioned. We're going to look into it and see what other fixes we can find.

I just noticed that Winamp is suggested. Should I download Winamp or is the problem likely to occur with it as well?

Winamp is desireable because you can have that be your default player for PLS (playlist) files and keep your existing associations (CDs, MP3, MOV) with your current player (Windows Media, Quicktime, etc). Personally I enjoy Winamp over the others because it loads quicker.

iTunes
Sometimes an hour, sometimes 5 minutes. However, it always changes after the end of a song. Then the new song is displayed in the "now playing" box, but the song below it in my iTunes is actually playing.

^Ditto what he said, but mine consistently switches to the next track after the first song.

I've had some of the same problems everyone else is talking about, but I use Winamp. So it's not just isolated to iTunes or to to Quicktime. I will either get a speed up or a slow down as well.

We have found the issue.

Apparently, there are a wide variety of bitrates and sample rates the titles in our library are encoded in. Specifically, the issue is caused by the variation in sample rates. Most players (winamp/itunes/quicktime/wmedia) simply do not know how to handle changes in playlist sample rates. As a result, the stream stops and the song skips.

I will be going through the database and will attempt to normalize the sampling rate: Most are currently sampled at 44100 Hz, or 44.1 kHz, so eventually, all mp3s in the library should be at this sample rate. As you can imagine, with 1865 titles (and counting) in our database, this is an exhaustive task, when you take into account the 'download-edit-upload' process for each one; at present, we do not have a timetable in completely fixing the issue.

We are still going through the process of converting our library to 44.1 rates. Still, we recommend you listen to VF Radio in a repeating playlist so it automatically rebuffers when two tracks with different sampling rates happen to play, back to back.

Personally, I use iTunes (which runs similarly to Winamp in playing the PLS stream), with Playlist "VF Streams" containing 5 entries, all of which are http://visionsfantastic.com:8000/listen.pls, set to "repeat playlist"

Add another variable to the speed up/slow down issue: The sudden change from a title which is mono to one which is stereo produces the "slow down" effect, while a switch from stereo to mono produces a "speed up" effect. We'll work on converting the affected files.
