Default What was wrong with Superstar Limo?

Did you like Superstar Limo? I personally thoght it was really fun. I was glad that they built a dark ride in DCA because I like the dark rides in Disneyland a lot. Could someone explain why no one wanted it to stay?

The ride it self was neat. THey just needed to take out Cory Burton's Speil, and they could have left everything else the way it was.

I never saw it broken down. That's one of the reasons I was surprised they took it out. I only got to go on it once too. I wish I had done it at least one more time.

I never got to ride Superstar Limo. I've only seen videos. It looked fun though.

ya i don't think breaking down was a problem...i never knew it to break down like all the time, maybe once or twice like any normal ride. I liked that ride, I thought it had good color and stuff like that and hey it even had a storyline (you were trying to get to the Chinese Theater I believe). It was thought to be tad bit corny cuz it was mostly about like famous stars and playing on them you know, but I liked it. I only rode it twice though, but I do remember that it wasn't your typical dark ride because the limo cars had a built in video screen where your "manager" would pop up on occasion. the ride also had an onride photo taken, and it was another ride that Whoopi lended her voice to (she's also in Golden Dreams or whatever). Hey so if that ride was still around, I guess we could say that Whoopi was the official voice of DCA lol much like Jack Wagner in Disneyland lol.

I never rode Superstar Limo. I heard it was kind of cool. I only got to see the facade before it transformed into Monsters Inc.

I never got to ride Superstar Limo either. I have seen videos though and it looked really cheesy. Something you would see at a fair or something. Totally brought down Disney in my opinion. I saw the facade and it just looked so tacky!! I know DCA is supposed to be different but this was just cheap!! The storybook rides over at Disneyland I can take because they are put together a little better. I mean the sets aren't completely 2D and most of them don't hurt your eyes when you look at them - unlike Superstar Limo's. I loved the idea of the ride but I don't think it was executed at all well. Shame because it could have been a real nice (long-living) ride. I think anyway.

Anyone have video of the ride? I was in Germany for a few years when DCA first opened so I never got to ride it, nor do I have any idea what it was all about.

I'd like to see it to. I never got to go when DCA opened and it closed before I ever had a chance to ride it.

I never got to ride it, but have seen video, and it seemed a little lame. I would've liked to have decided firsthand, but my reaction is good thing it is gone, because I am thrilled to see what Monsters Inc has in store!

I think Disney could do better than an oversized toll painting project for the outside of a ride though. Really, give it some depth.

I think its big problem was that a lot of people just didnt get it.

We disney buffs can get into the whole dark ride mentality. But a lot of people just werent all that entertained.

Its main problems I think were,
1. No animatronics. They had human figures, but they were cartoonish, and didnt move much.
2. Too Enthusiastic. Right off the bat, the storyline kicked in of how you were going to sign your big movie deal. But it was played off waaaaaay over-the-top with all the hollywood cliches and the announcer guy that you heard. In the end it was hard for anyone riding to match the enthusiasm the ride gave
3. Dated Celebrities. As far as I can remember, Home Improvement was already canceled, and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire was already getting old. But Disney still put in Tim Allen and Regis Philbin characters. They also put in Cindy Crawford (who was already long sinced retired), Drew Carey, Whoopi Goldberg, and other topical celebrities who had since lost their appeal.

I guess in a nutshell... the ride was suppose to be a spoof of hollywood/LA. But hollywood/LA already has a reputation for being fake. So it was a fake take on a fake. Too much fake for me.

^^I think they were trying to go with "name" stars, you know stars that most people would recognize the name of (Cher, Regis, Whoopi, Sylvester Stalone). But ya the characters, although AAs, didn't move much, at least not like POTC or anythingthing. In fact when the Whoopi AA talks at the end, her lips don't even move, you just hear her voice and see her character. But the character themselves were made to look like actual characticures. They had huge heads with lots of detail and smaller bodies with less detail.
