Is it too much to ask for some advertising for just DCA? Sure the 50th is the top priority right now... but it seems they would benefit greatly from advertising California Adventure. So many people dont even know whats inside the park. I bet that if they devoted just as much money to comercials for DCA as they have for the 50th, It would greatly boost attendance.

Off the top of my head.... a 30 second spot
(California Here I Come plays in the background)
Show shots of
GRR
California Screamin'
Soarin' Over California
A Bugs Land
Monsters Inc
Aladdin
Tower of Terror

There... shows all the big attractions, and varries them for different demographics. I bet that would boost attendence at least by 2000.

This isnt designed to show off my advertising skills, but rather just ask the question, "why is DCA not being advertised?"

^ DCA is being advertised, indirectly. In the commercial that's currently airing, which is a Frankenstein of an old commerical that aired in May, you used to see an ad for Tower, and you see ads for BPB & the new Monster's Inc. Remember, all commericals are for Disneyland Resort, which encompasses both Disneyland & DCA, so they can blend them together without telling you what's where.

Yea you're right.

I just wish Disney would quit this vague, all encompasing advertising strategy. Disneyland is certainly stong enough to be advertised by itself (if it even needs advertising), and I think DCA is to. They need to put more faith in the park. Of course maybe we'll see more of that after all the renovations are done.

I seem to remember them advertising DCA like crazy back before the 50th. It was obvious that they were desperate for people. I'm kind of glad to see some advertising for Disneyland for a change.

Well. DCA does pretty much blow asides from soarin, tot, ggr, and screamin.

Really? The last comercials I remember for DCA focused only on the Tower of Terror. I cant remember a single comercial for the whole park since it opened back in 2001.

^Scratch that... I was thinking more of the non-TV advertising, which isn't what you're talking about obviously.

Oh come on now. Can we move on past the petty park bashing?

I personally think the park's a lot of fun, and innovative.
-GRR features the longest drop for a ride of its nature, including the worlds only rotating final drop.
-Soarin' is so popular, they built it at Epcot, where lines are just as long.
-Tower of Terror will soon feature the random drop sequences, and it is the tallest structure in the entire resort.
-California Screamin' is the longest steel roller coaster in California, with over 4 miles of track. Its also regarded as one of the smoothest.
-Monsters Inc. incorporates interactive ride features (aka Talking Roz)
-Turtle Talk with Crush allows audience members to interact with real-time animation
-Animation Academy allows for every guest to draw a favorite disney character, and even keep the drawing for free.
-The Hyperion Theatre is a state of the art theatre that features virtually every entity a stage show could need and/or want.

When you put all of that together, you get a considerably impressive park, and very unique experience. I think its very marketable. Yes, the park isnt perfect. But its still darn fun. And they continue to improve it, and add onto it.

One important thing to remember is that they don't want to advertise the name 'Disney's California Adventure'. They've figured out that it's big, bulky, awkward, and not exactly something that rolls off the tongue. That's why you've noticed a change in the last couple of years in the DCA logo w/ the larger Disney's above a smaller California Adventure. They'll say it when they need to, but in a 30-second spot, you want the familiar Disneyland logo there.

This is very true. You almost get the sense that Disney doesn't want us to think that this park is done yet. It certainly brings back all the rumors of the DCA name change, and what not. It'll be interesting to see if the current DCA logo is meant to be permenant.

I think they were committed to advertising everything as the Disneyland Resort long before DCA opened. I think that even if DCA was a huge success they would still advertise everything as the Disneyland Resort. that';s how they advertise WDW. There is no evidence that Disney doesn't want to use the DCA name because it's "awkward." I think they were only going to advertise the DCA name in 2001 then all ads would fall under the Disneyland Resort name.

How about them saying that in their meetings? Would that qualify?

well even still, some would argue that the disneyland resort logo has a direct bias towards.... well.... disneyland.

Sure, the original logo had both the castle and Grizzly Peak, but that logo was dropped in favor of the classic Disneyland font with the word "resort" underneath it in tiny print.

This is the first I've heard about it. Even if it is true, It's pretty obvious they've been committed to the Disneyland Resort name from the get go. I've read a lot of stuff that was supposedly said "in a meeting" that had no truth whatsoever.
