I love that detail. It's obvious if you pay attention to your surroundings. It truly speaks to me when Rob Serling says, "The time is now, on in evening very much like the one we have just witnessed."

Yay! I'm 3-4 years older than the original ride! Ha ha. I'm done with my dorky moment.

I think the one thing that makes the ride (or any ride in either park) so much fun is that the cast members play along with you and answer questions like: Do the rooms have cable? Can you get me a different room farther from the screaming? Why is there a little girl stuck in another dimension in my room? Do you charge by the hour or by the day?

But absolutely perfect theming all the way, with subtle references to one of the coolest shows ever.

If you ride it soon, look for Nathan. He was our bellhop for my last ride last sunday, and he was SO good at it!

While explaining to keep your arms etc in, he was always, slowly, moving his eye around, looking at invisible objects, and talking really slowly, then speeding up and looking at a guest with a really creepy smile. I wanted to leave a compliment for him, but I heard you couldn't anymore. Anyway, he was awsome, and VERY creepy.

I'm in LOVE with the ride! I love the time period on which the ride is based on. I'm a big fan of the 1920s and 1930s.

omg, I sooo wanted to ask on my first time this year something like "Aren't the stairs in service?" But I always thought the bellhops would be too serious.

Oh yeah and super hilarious story, my first ride, we got to the waiting "square" and we see a hand crawl out between the elevator doors, all the girls in front scream and like freak out and the hand goes back in. A few minutes later, it happens again and everyone's like "HOLY COW!" and the hand goes back in. A minute later, a bellhop comes out the Maintenence door on the side of the elevator entrance and she goes "I swear that was not me" and everyone was like, "surrreeee". And of course my heart began to race like crazy and I had HUGE anxiety sickness, because I was scared & anxious to go on the elevator, but I did xD. I wanted to buy a picture too, to prove my courageousness to get over my fear of the Hotel, but sadly my picture got "Lost in another Dimension" and so I ended up not buying one, I got a cool "I survived!" Tee though with the Anaheim tower in front of it, and went to Downtown Disney Pin Traders and bought a cool HTH "dangling" pin with an old 30's phone, suitcase, and HTH "Do Not Disturb" Sign hanging from it with Goofy in a bellhop costume.

On my "check-in", by myself, I was soooo freaked out. We had a freaky bellhop, and I was sitting next to some guys who I could tell thought I was the most wussiest teen in the entire elevator, and one was all smiling at me going like "dude you're soooo in for it". So our bellhop gives us the usual spiel and then peeks his head back outside the doors as if someone is calling to him and goes "What? I can't hear you! What's that? The Elevator is broken down? No It's not. No It isn't look!" and he starts it up. It was the best! And the funniest part is that when we came back down to unload, he gave us this menacing, creepy look when the doors opened and everyone began to laugh. It was a very fun experience and this is definitly my new favorite ride at California Adventure.

I also love how when I went, the lines were EXTREMELY short, and the queue wait time read "13 minutes from this point".

Here are some pictures from before I got on, waiting patiently for Night to fall before I went on for the first time so it could be creepier, alas, it didn't =[ and when I got out, the HTH sign lit up and it was getting dark:

This one was really well shot by my dad; its my favorite:

^^You MUST go to the Hollywood Tower Hotel and see the lighting effects Disney throws on it for Halloween, and you MUST go watch the story-telling the 1939 guests have at night in front of the hotel, telling their stories on what they did the night of the occurance.

k it's official... I'm a whimp. My 4 year old son wants to go on this with my hubby next time we're there (this weekend) and I REFUSE to go with them. How sad am I haha? I'm terrified of this ride *shivers*!! So anyone out there with kids.... will a 4 year old like this ride? He loves the falling on Splash Mtn, but is scared to death to go on Matterhorn... thoughts?

We took my three year old neice and she LOVES it. I don't think she really understands it though. She puts her arms up and everything.

AGH! that makes me nauseous just to read that! I can tell you EXACTLY where I got this fear.... On the parachute ride in Knott's. I was probably 5 or 6... thought this was some cool innocent ride. My mom was impressed that I wanted to go.... we climb up and up and I'm giddy as all get out and then BAM! The chute closes and we plummet to the earth! I hadn't noticed that part! My grandparents were on the ground and they said that EVERYONE on the ground looked up to see who was screaming so horribly! I now have a fear of falling.... my son does not have this fear so I'm trying not to hinder him but I can't help but think "does he know what he's getting himself into?" haha. I'll let him go and see what happens :)

If he loves Splash Mountain, then he'll love Tower. Both rides feature a moment where you look out over a pretty view, and then drop. A 4 year-old's brain would love both if it loves one, but how he does he do in darkness? There's a lot of darkness in Tower that's not in Splash Mountain...maybe not so good for a little guy afraid of the dark. If darkness doesn't really get to him, then by all means go for it. Always gotta try it at least once. If he loves it, great. If he hates it, then he never needs to go on it again.

As for Matterhorn, I'm guessing that's a fear of monsters more than anything. Possibly a fear of something jumping out from the dark, which happens as well, but isn't the same thing as being afraid of the dark itself.

In cases like this, I always think it's best to try it once and see his reaction to the real thing. Better that than trying to predict a reaction inductively by looking at reactions to other similar but different things.

I have that pin too! It was a gift to me.

I have another pin of that ride. It was elevator doors, with a giant B imprinted on it, that you can open and close. When you open it, you see Stitch, in a bellhop costume, hanging on an elevator rope, holding scissors. STITCH IS THE CAUSE FOR THE ELEVATOR FALLING!!! Ha ha.
