Question Tower of Terror? - How scary?

How scary is Tower of Terror? I'm not asking how scary are the ghosts, lol

uhmm.. how "bad" are the drops?

I'm really bad with rides with drops, but I wanna ride ToT to see the queue and themes, but I won't ride it if it's really scary

If you've been to Knott's, is it as scary as Supreme Scream? (because I can't ride supreme scream, lmao, I can't ride 75% of the rides at knotts, lmao) - that's how bad I am, lol

But I love rollercoasters (ie. space mountain), I just hate drops..

THanks :)

While ToT in my opinion is somewhat mild, it could be overwhelming for someone afraid of falling. Instead of the ride having one large drop, it instead has a series of smaller drops, and a "weightless" lift/drop sequence.

I think everyone should try everything at least once however. Heck who knows, you might love it!!!

Here's some tips that may help you, if you do decide to give it a try...

-Ride with someone who has ridden the ride several times. Once a person has ridden several times, they have a good feel for the "impending doom" and the timing which it occurs. They can give you a heads up, allowing you to prepare and brace yourself a little better.

-Request to sit in the back row of the elevator. Sitting in the back will put you furthest away from the front of the elevator, which has the most terrifying view and more intese drop "effects" with the different floors whizzing right past your face.

Hope this has helped and I hope you decide to enjoy one of DCA's finer attractions!!!

You may be able to go through the whole queue and then skip the actual ride. The first time my son went on it, or tried to go on it rather, he got too scared and when we got to the elevator they let us go out the exit. I have seen several other people leave when they got to the actual ride. You would be able to enjoy the whole queue knowing there is a way out.

However.....

I recommend that you give it a try! It is a fantastic ride! My son who was so scared to try it, now absolutely loves it! We laugh the whole ride!

Good luck and have a great trip!

TOT is the best....
I would never ride Supreme Scream or the mailiboomer either.
those are completely different then TOT is.
on TOT you are doing the drops in a dark shaft, your only view is from the top where the doors open and you see out.
(out - not DOWN!!!! Big difference here!!!)
I was nervious my 1st time, but it is now my favorite ride....
the entire drop sequence is 50-60 seconds.

you will need to give it a try and let us know what you think.

My mom, who is 50, hates drop rides! Cant stand them swore she would never go on TOT but after seeing all us kids go on it 10+ times, loving it, she decided to give it a try. Now she has 10+ times under her belt. The drops are small and it is over fast but you have to go on it to get the full effect. The true story of the ride is told to you while you are on the elevator. Good luck! You will love it and let us know.

I am such a wuss just like you !! You can't take my butt to magic mountain. Disney is about as scary as I get lol. But... with that said, I went on tot. The first time it was freaky but I made it through. And I had no idea there were multiple drops when I first went on it. My fiance knew but just kept laughing the entire time I was screaming during the ride ! lol. I went on it again with his aunt and uncle and had a blast laughing at his aunt who then did not know there were multiple drops and was screaming OH GOD! OH GOD ! the entire time. So that was fun to watch it through someone else. But..... after all of that , the last time I went on , I freaked out! Was actually scared. Wierd. But it really isn't as bad as you think. There is a HUGE drop from the start, but it all goes sooooooooo fast that you really don't have time to think about it. Which works to the wuss's advantage lol.
Just go on it once and if you don't like it you don't ever have to do it again. But I suggest like the others, give it a shot !

It was soo scary for me the first time I went on that ride. I was basically the only one on that ride that didn't know what was going on. My hands were grasped to the bottom of the seat, and during the drops, my friend's hat floated towards me and landed in my lap. lol! When I bought my on-ride photo, I was the only one screaming. So all that fear I got on the ride was probably all fueled by my imagination.

It's a fun ride u must give it a try! I was alittle scared my first time but it was worth it how scary the ride is depends on the person to me it wasn't that scarry it was more fun than scarry. the drops range for big ones to littles ones but it is never one giant drop all the way down the 13 stories.

I'm like you - I can't stand drops! Although, I finally got over my fear of Splash Mountain and I try to go on it every visit. But anyway, I've been on Tower of Terror once. I was absolutely terrified; probably near the point of a heart attack. I was shaking and had a hard time breathing when I got off. But once the fear shook off and I was able to look back on it, it wasn't *that* bad (although I'll never go on it again!). I think that if you think you can handle it, you should try it at least once. The on-ride effects at the beginning are SOOO cool! You're really missing out if you don't see them!

if you hate that feeling you get in your stomach when you drop, lean forward a little. it kinda gets rid of that feeling... at least for me it does...

but TOT is a fun ride! the things you see before that actual ride scared me more than the actual drops.

heeeey, besides, isn't it fun to get scared? =P

You were like me the first time, shaking and such. I think after a bit I stopped, "you know what that was fun." I'm lok Ranko and most people here, I Hate drop rides (I refused to go on the Maliboomer and I was offered money for it.) However since it is a series of drops and I knew what was coming I was prepared the second time a year later. (What also helped was the fact i had friends the second time as compared to the first time when I was by myself.)

I love roller coasters, but I had never been on a drop ride before (like Supreme Scream and Maliboomer) since they scare me, so I wasn't too sure about TOT. I was really nervous the first time I went on, but I ended up loving it, and so did my mom, who doesn't like drops much in general. I went on with someone who had already been on it, and they told me what was coming which made it less scary, plus you can't see where you're going, and that helps too.
Overall, it's a lot of fun, and I think you should try it!

i was in the back row far right seat and it was bad for me because there is this handle that's hard to grab because i'm so big. it was going in to my side a bit. i was also trying to make faces for the camera but it look more when the picture was taken i had gas and letting it out. the sudden drop after the last of the dialog freaked me out because it came so soon. also there are two floor you can get on elevators. that as odd to me. owell it was a great ride though.

The first time I rode it I was on the last seat on the left side of the last row. There was only one handle so I ended up grabbing the chair in front of me. But what was really funny was... there was a cosplayer on the ride. She had a short plastic skirt on and a wig (which was not on tight enough.) I don't know why she wore her outfit or why they didn't say anything but... when we got off her wig was in the front row and she was in the last row.

That helped me calm down as I got off.
