If you are talking about tot, I believe the 'transformation room' is a type of programmed camera that will put the effect around whatever the camera is looking at. Then a picture of the empty elevator appears to make you think you disappeared.

I saw this commercial for the ride and in it there was an evil bellhop with a pale face. Has anyone else seen this commercial and is he in the ride? I'm too chicken to ride.

Yes I have seen this commerical and no he is not in the ride. The CM's that do work in the ride pretend to be quite eerie and set the mood for the ride. They dont smile, and try to scare you , kinda like the CM's in HM. I hope that helps! But that ride is completly terrifying, but it is soo much fun! Ride it! Its great! You might not want to ride it again, but at least you can say you rode it ya know?

I know how you feel. I got forced into riding it. As incredibly scary as it was, I don't regret riding it. If I were you, try to gather up some courage and ride just once. The effects on the ride are awesome and the whole hotel has this disturbing ambiance. It's just amazing! Oh just fyi, if it's drops that you're afraid of, these drops feel really different from roller coaster drops!

After I got off the ride and was able to catch my breath, I was SO proud of going on it! I bought a t-shirt that says "I survived!", the picture of us in the elevator, and I saved my sticker that says "I took the dare!" Even though I haven't been on it since, it was a really cool experience.

I remember that commercial. It really didn't help my attitude toward it. I was soo chicken my first time on the ride, I had to sit front and center for crying out loud. But after that, I loved it. I also saved my "I took the dare" sticker. I also have a "If you need anything, just scream!" promotional door knob hanger thingy.

Sometimes the CMs do a good job being in-character. Other times they just don't care.

Yes! I'm so glad that the one and only time I went on ToT the CMs were VERY in character! It was really spooky. And it didn't help that I was already terrified.

Whenever I go on a ride I've never been on before, I want to know information like "How fast does this ride go?", "How big is the drop?", etc. So I asked the nearest CM and he just turned to look at me slowly and said some outrageous speed and height to freak me out.

I always ask the CM too if I've never gone on a ride but for TOT the outside CMs weren't in character they were happy and for all the rides they say oh its fun not scarry but the CMs in front of the elevators are scarry sometimes.

I'm one of those terrible moms that talked my 7 yr old to go, even though she was not thrilled about it. She wimpered some, but in the end loved the ride. I think it's the best ride in DCA(other than Soarin).

It's not terrible if you think they will genuinely like it. Not like when you see those people physically dragging their kids on rides because they want to go on them and the kids are screaming and crying because they want off!!!
