Default TOT question

Are there two elevators per shaft in TOT not at the same time but when i was At DCA they were loading the same shaft upstairs and downstairs, if there are two per shaft then? how does that work?

While one elevator is loading and unloading in the loading\unloading front shaft, another elevator is doing the ride in the adjent shaft behind it. That's also why you move back and forth during the beggining and end, so the other elevator can go on the ride while you unload and others load. I know it sounds confusing, but that's the way it is.

Umm...no. You ride one 2-story elevator car which is the only one in its respective shaft. The reason why the elevator moves back & forth is because the loading area is in the front & the drop shafts are in the back. Therefore, the elevators move backward in the beginning to get into the drop shaft, and then move forward at the end to get out of the drop shaft and back to loading. MGM's Tower is similar, only backwards. There, the elevators move forward through the 5th dimension room into their drop shafts and then move into exit areas elsewhere. Should clear things up.

I always thought there were two elevators per shaft on the DCA TOT.
1 loads while 1 rides. if you watch from outside you will see the cars are
single. if they were double like PPM said then you would see 2 at a time from the outside.
(maybe the WDW is that way and PPM is confussed?
I don't know, I've never been to florida)

the other reason for my thinking of this...is there are 3 doors that open on each shaft at the top. no matter where you load in you always end up on the top of the three doors. (where your photo is taken)

Peoplemover's makes sense. I doubt that because when I timed the ride it took a lot longer during the ride sequence then during loading.

no i think its just a one story car, if it is two stories show me a picture of two cars at the same times looking through the top windows, plus it would cost more cause then they'd need two mirror scenes and two of everything else.

well serviceelevator.com proves that its a one story car. Load unload1 and two are not connected veritcaly only in the drop shaft.

Wow I just re-examined my videos & I have been off on this thanks to some bad info that I confused with misinterpreting what I was seeing live when the doors opened. So...I stand corrected on the 2-story elevator deal. But the pushing back & forth still has to do with that's how they get from loading to drop shafts. MGM's does not have a 2-story boiler room, I don't think.

I think it was kinda unavoidable in the boiler room.... the problem with a two story queue, is that there are so many different angles to examine everything. I know that everytime I go up those stairs, I notice the lights for the lower levels.

Wait, I don't think he means THOSE stage lights! I think he means the VERY obvious stage lights positioned where you get your picture taken in the Drop Shaft! I have seen those lights a million times very clearly because...well...they're just there! VERY noticable! Now why would a hotel have stage lights pointing towrds the elevators?

More importantly, what are those particular lights used for, besides taking pictures? Has anyone ever seen them turned on at night? I have seen TOT at night from a distance, and I always look to see if the lights illuminate anything, but it doesn't look like they light anything up!

So, can someone tell me why they are there (Besides taking pictures!)?

To let everyone know, there are three shafts on the TOT. Last time I went two were opened, but when one had problems they opened the third. If it's a busy day all three are opened.
