Default Soarin' Over California Question

Why do people say that Soarin's queue is not themed. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that you are in a Air Plane Hangar. It is suppose to look like a warehouse type building. Have you ever noticed the lighting effect in the ceiling. Or did you just notice the air ducts and say "those imagineer's didn't do alot of themeing in here." It is suppose to look like that because you are in a HANGAR. If I am wrong please tell me because I really don't understand why people say the queue is not themed, because it is.

I agree with you! I completely understand that ride queue, and I think the imagineers did a great job with the theming. It doesnt need much theming at all. Because thats what airplane hangers are. Very plain, with some decor buts thats it. They made it to be very believeable. I personally love that ride, and I really enjoy that queue. 300th post!!! WHHOO HOOO!

yea when i worked their this summer I would ride on my days off and during one visit their was dust on the projector which really detracted from the experience, and by the way the ride never gets old.

When they clean the film and projector it looks quite amazing. They should really maintain that more often.

As for the queue... it looks just like an airplane hangar.... only more colorful. I think some people may be turned off by the gray walls.... and the appearance of exposed metal and such. I would argue they did this so to bring more focus to the pictures of the legends of flight. Looking at the pictures and reading the bios with that cinematical music playing in the background does a very good job of setting up the ride more as an emotional experience.

And thats what Soarin' is... an emotional experience. Its not a thrill ride that scares us, or a dark ride that makes us laugh. Its an emotional ride, that fills us with the sensation of flight, and allows us to take in the beauty of the local topography. The queue I strongly feel adds to the emotional impact of the ride.

I believe people are talking about the outdoor part of the stand-by queue when they talk about it being unthemed. Once inside the hangar, there is themeing in the first room, but after the split you've got painfully bare walls & not so much movement between theatre loads.

oh.... well then yes. I whole heartedly agree :-). We do need more things outside to look at. Maybe some more engine parts lying around or something. And when the line splits... surely some video screens that hilight california avaiation would be a simple easy improvement.

soarin is the best ride in the park and the only line ride in DCA that deserves to have a wait time. You know its good when Florida makes a copy of it for their park

Lightbulb ...!

On a couple of Disneyland-related websites, there has been talk about retheming the Condor Flats area. It is said that WDI, along with lots of guests, think that the Condor Flats "desert" idea doesn't work. The ride itself doesn't even go near a desert, and deserts are not very attractive and have almost no theming or scenery whatsoever (duh ).
So, they are thinking of either retheming it to a more technical and machine-related landscape (I LOVE this idea!), or retheming it to a purely Golden State landscape with WAY more trees and plants.
Both ideas are great and could really bring the area much needed attention!

Did you forget the scene after Camarillo when you're flying over Death Valley & the fighter jets fly by? Before I read that, I had no idea that was supposed to be a desert either, but desert isn't the point. Experimental/pioneering aviation is & Condor Flats does a pretty good job of it. It's still funny to see the small red propellor plane pointed on a course to fly straight into Tower .

Yea... the desert part of condor flats is very minimal... i think the only real signs its supposed to be a desert are a few cacti hidden in the folliage. Still I hope they dont change too much of the look. Even the area is terribly small.... I think theres a real charm to the place.

I think they did a really good job. I love the pictures and attached biograhies of all the pilots. The background music is so inspiring too. I basically LOVE this ride anyway, so I guess I'm kind of biased.

That ride is a very emotional experience. I love that ride, always have and always will. That ride is just amazing, and everytime I ride it i get this tearing up feeling. Aviation and its history is amazing to me. The history of aviation is something I am very into, and the ride with the photos and bios of Aviators from the past is just amazing. Sometimes I wish I was the only one in there, so I could look at everything and take my time. Its an awesome ride, hands down.
