Default Soarin' Locations Question

I've lived in Camarillo for 32 years and am having a hard time pinpointing where in Camarillo they filmed the orange grove sequence. My fellow Disney Geeks and I think it's an extinct grove just up the street from me, but since I've never toured the town from the air I'm not sure.

My question is, does anyone know of a site that shows or gives information about the exact Soarin' locations?

Thanks!

The Camarillo portion was shot somewhere along highway 118, but I can't say exactly where. Maybe that helps.

Hmmmm.... Not really. The 118 doesn't go through Camarillo, it goes through Moorpark and Somis which are on the other side of the hill from Camarillo. But maybe that narrows it down.

Sounds to me like Disney mixed up their cities!

The Camarillo portion was shot either on Santa Rosa Road or off of New Los Angeles Avenue way out between Moorpark and Camarillo. If you take the 118 West it automatically becomes the 23 Freeway. Get off on Tierra Rejada Road and go right. Make a left at Moorpark Road and it conects to Santa Rosa Road which will take you right to the 101 Freeway. This section sits next to the Camarillo Grade and is an easier drive on your car and a much nicer view. In the spring the lemon and orange blossoms are blooming and it smells wonderful. Or take the same route but get off the 23 at New LA Avenue and head all the way down through Moorpark to Camarillo's backside. Hope this helps you out.

^ Yeah that sounds about right. I couldn't really remember the exact description from years & years ago but I knew the 118 was involved somehow. Plus the 126 exit to highway 118 in Saticoy has some fields that look darn near identical to that scene from Soarin' Over California.

Funny stuff Matt. Thanks for reminding me on the name of that town. I forgot it. I am leaning more towards the section out by Saticoy where the Nut House (not a phsyco place, but a nut farm and market) is. Cause in the video it is a pretty open area and Santa Rosa Road is a little more narrow. Plus Santa Rosa Road is more groves I believe. With that my guess is out by Saticoy.

Yeah.... I've lived in Mission Oaks for 32 years. Before that I lived in Simi Valley and my parents still live there, so I've been driving Santa Rosa Road for many years. On top of it, my husband taught at Moorpark College for over 30 years and so I've driven the 118 for that many years, too.

Here's what I'm thinking now.

I'm thinking the cinematography crew may have been sitting on the Moorpark (118) side of the hills that form the north boundary of the Santa Rosa Valley. The copter then came over the hill to shoot the groves on the south side of that hill (which would be the north side of the Santa Rosa Valley on the north side of Santa Rosa Road.) In the video you can see in the distance a little cluster of hills with what appears to be a small pass. I'm guessing Norwegian Grade?

My doubt on this comes from the fact that even ten years ago there were too many houses to have gotten that distance shot clear of homes ANYWHERE in Camarillo, Somis, Moorpark or Saticoy, for that matter.

So, either I'm wrong (gosh, that would be a new one), or they did a lot of editing out of homes and buildings.

I'm thinking that DisneyGuy may be on the better track and Disney has the wrong city.
