They are saying that they are going to retheme Soarin' to a global theme.

Other than the immediate surrounding area being changed from awkward Condor Flats to an extension of scenic Grizzly Peak, Soarin' was not included in the billion dollar expansion plan.

At least that means they're making progress. It looks very crowded where you were standing!

The crowd level mostly has to do with the fact it was New Year's Eve.

New Year's Day then. My point is unchanged.

Yes, they certainly did. I was just there and unfortunately left the day before New Year's Eve, but the main festivities took place in and around the Wharf-Golden Dreams area.

Yep taken just before 5 PM on Jan 1st... looks a little crowded even for it being a somewhat holiday.

Especially since Disneyland was not crowded compared to previous winter seasons.

Looking at Darkbeer's pics they are doing more now. The Sun Wheel now has more paint to it, like the sun rays themselves. The area around the Orange Stinger has been painted on the ground to mark places which looks like they will cut out as well as the lights under the orange have been removed. Other markings have been made in the lagoon as well.
