Default Yes, eh No, eh Maybe?

It's been having lots of improvements over the years. The MSEP that premiered in 1973 was not the same as the one that returned in 1977. Pete's Dragon was added and a lot more tunes were woven into the score. Floats were the same basic design but more 3 dimensional. And there have been little changes ever since, but it's basically been the same.

I notice the version of EP on my 6cd set has character narrations. That's fairly new isn't it? Kind of sad that Pete has to tell you who Elliott is nowadays because nobody remembers him.

Does anybody know? were those character narrations added before the move to DCA or after?

I remember some charachters talking to the crowd during the parade (Alice, Pete) but I'm not sure that is the narration that you are speaking of. I do remember Pete saying "this is my dragon Elliott" when it was in DL.

Smile yes Alice, Pete

Yes that's the character narrations I was talking about. Thanks!
...so maybe the parade hasn't changed since the move to DCA?

I saw the parade in 1973 and several times since. Pete always talked and told everyone Elliot was his dragon. Elliot was invisible in the movie so I always thought only Pete and I could see him. My Dad would pretend that there was not a dragan there

^ That's why you'll see Elliott go totally dark every so often, because he can be visible & invisible.

Not in 1973 because he didn't exist yet. The first MSEP had a sequence called The Angry Dragon that featured a Chinese-style dragon. It was replaced with Elliot when the parade returned in 1977, to promote the movie release. Here's the IMDB listing for Pete's Dragon (1977)

The only major change I can think of when it moved was it's name. At Disneyland if was officially "The Main Street Electrical Parade" then when it moved to DCA it was changed to "Disney's Electrical Parade" since it no longer travelled down Main Street.

Also I believe the other addition when it returned in 77 was the addition of the America finale because of the Bicentennial.

That was original.

I have the picture disc issued in 1973 and the insert reads:

Electrical stages

The Blue Fairy
Alice in Wonderland
The Angry Dragon
The Dumbo Circus
Cinderella
Small World
Stars and Stripes

There was a Pinnochio float when it was at Disneyland. that was my favorite float. It was like the Pleasue Island amusement park and there were donkeys all around it. Pinnochio and Lampwick were sitting on this little throne and waving. There were four big, smoking cigars on the back. I loved that float so much.

I never got the chance to see it in DL, but I did get to see it in WDW. I have since seen it numerous times in DCA.
