Default GRR plumbing.

So last time I went to DCA... I thought to myself

"i'm quite hot... i should like to ride Grizzly River Rapids"

Well when my group got there, the ride was completely drained. I thought to myself...

"i'm quite upset. the ride is down for the day."

Well, we went and did Paradise Pier instead, and when walking back, we noticed GRR was already half full of water. And an hour after that they were letting people back on.

So more or less within 3 hours GRR went from totally drained, you could walk the attraction and not get wet at all, to a raging rapids adventure. So how powerful exactly is the plumbing situation there? It took my family a day to fill up my pool.

I think they really do.

I heard it goes into the Pacific Wharf Tide Pools.

Very interesting, but why? I've seen systems (from being around the pool industry) that have the ability to move that amount of water from source to source, however again I still come back to why it would be needed. If anyone hears any more details, please post them.

Well I suppose anyone whose ever had a view of GRR from the Grand Californian overnight could help us out with this one.

...so the water level in the Tide Pools would go up if it were drained, then. That might explain something for me! In this pic I took a few weeks ago, you can see that the water level in those tide pools is abnormally high - even touching the bottome of the fish net! I only wish I knew iff GRR had been drained at the time.

That would make sense, though - it would make a very convenient holding area for water, without having so many unsightly tanks around!

Hidden in plain sight. Best way to hide something, and since it is already themed that way, it makes sense. Nice pic by the way.

This is a question I might be able to help with since I am a plumbing engineer (by day) !
First - moving that much water in that amount of time is not at all a problem.
Second - I can only assume that the booster pumps required to operate such a ride would require routine check ups and maintanence. Much like all the roller coasters that need their morning walk-throughs.
Also, the amount of pressure running thru those pipes is enough to cause significant damage to the structure to whatever is on the receiving end of the pipe outlet. So it would make me feel safe if they checked for stress fractures in the water channels. Not to mention how hard the rafts bump into the sidewalls of the channels. Water is a VERY distructive element when pressurized and great care must be taken when your trying to tame it.

See I wish I would have know about this, because I have pics of GRR when it was drained during the day, and I wish I could have checked out the wharf!

Thanks for the info and insight. Duh, never thought about maintenance and inspections. I knew moving that much water wasn't that big of a deal and I'm sure places like Sea World move much more than that around everyday. That just left why, which you logically answered.

Yes It is drained everynight iam not sure how long it takes but for an example splash mountian is drained every night the water is stored in an underground tank under the attraction it takes 3 mins in the morning to fill the ride however that is runing at 3pumps they have 5 pumps so if they ran all of them wich they never do it could be done faster
