Default A Different View Of Monsters Inc

Now All I have heard about the new Monsters Inc ride is good things, which is good, because I have been dreading an even worse attraction than Superstar Limo, but really, is that ride really what California Adventure Needs. Now, Granted, i haven't ridden it, so I can't be too impressed, but really, isn't it just a dark ride....DCA is not a dark ride type park, it's a park that takes on more thrilling attractions, and this ride does not inforce it.

Now, I know the building from superstar was left over, and I'm not going to rant about some huge project(such as expanding the Millionare building through it for something like Rockn Rollercoaster)but maybe a different replacement could work out better. From what I have seen of the ride, it looks VERY expensive, not including all that major construction done throughout the area. Wouldn't the Movie Ride at WDW be abetter replacement for example, I'm not saying it should have been, but really, it would have fit PERFECTLY in the area, for those people who actually think about theming, Monsters Inco really doesn't fit in the hollywood Pictures Backlot. Now of course EVERY DISNEY THEME PARK MUST HAVE A DARK RIDE, and this is a very good one, but it won't impress people who won't ride it. The ride will not bring people in. The only reasons I really come to DCA now is Screamin' and TOT. I like DCA a lot, and i belive it has very good and fun attractions, but those are the only reason I have to go there. I'm very impressed with the decision that the disneyland made in created an original ride that no other park has, but just like Soar'in, if this a sucess, WDW will have it next year. Also, aren't some of you chatters the ones that complain about Pixar's roles in the parks. I don't know, you all seem very optimistic, but I would be scared. I do believe this will last much longer than Limo Ride, but in reality, no one will come to DCA or the DLR or California for this ride. This ride is not advertisable, no one is gonna see this on an ad and say oh that's AMAZING. When Rocket Rods failed, I was Fired, so I tend to get very personal about these issues, but really, this ride is not a showstopper and it,in my opinion, is not a valid attempt to save this park(DCA).

Bottomline: DCA will die if more thrill rides, or rides that sparks peoples interest , are not built, Dark Rides, Cheap Rides like Mullholland, and mediocre films(Goden Dreams) are not going to save the park. Monsters Inc. is expensive and is just another example of why DCA is not as sucessful as it could be. [Is this all the progress we could make in 5 years?

Well, you are right about it taking the place of Superstar Limo. Wasn't that sort of like a dark ride too? When you get what you can take, you just have to go with it. Perhaps Monsters, Inc. wasn't the best idea for a ride, but it's a new film that a lot of people really like (myself included, even though I'm not a huge fan of CG films).

You also have to think about this: The Disney parks were meant for the ENTIRE family to enjoy. If you overload DCA with big thrill rides, families with children will not want to spend their money at DCA just to go to A Bug's Land and then leave. You can't just think about yourself and what you like, you need to think about the little kids too.

Yes, that is true. Maybe Monster Inc. was not the best choice for DCA, but hey, its for the whole family.

think of it. Even if you made a expasnsion and make a big bulding that is inbetween the MI and studio 23 (millionaire bulding) you still wouldnt' have room for the great movie ride.I think it would fit in perfectly and it is one of my favs. at mgm, but there isn't much room.

well what's behind those buildings? that's what i'm curious about. Monsters Inc's show building extends back, but how far? perhaps with the added space of Millionaire and any other extra area around Muppets, there is enough room for a movie ride. or maybe more room is available in the Hollywood and Dine building and the area surrounding it.

bottom line: Yes. DCA does need an attraction people can be "familiar" with meaning people know these characters which will prompt them to go and see it. it doesn't take a genius to figure out the marketing strategy, right? familiarity = higher chance of sale

DCA used to be my favorite park.

I used to love just going there, playing Millionaire, watching kids dodge water in Princess Dott's Puddle Park, ride Grizzly River Run, and eat some good pizza at Pizza Oh Mow Mow.

Now, something just doesn't seem right. Part of the pull of DCA, imo, was the good food. The food seems to be losing a lot of the quality.

Also, DCA has a lot of wasted space. The theming is wonderful, but there's just so much that could be done with that park, there's no need to expand anything. You have that huge lake with no show (there was one but I heard it sucked), you have that whole SF area with nothing in it, you have Golden Dreams, which is dated and not as exciting the 500th time, and that whole warf area where there could be something interesting.

Bug's land was refreshing, but even that cannot save DCA. I think Monster's INC will be a bomb, judging from the video I've seen. It's not enough, and they need to stick to their theming with California. It could be a very good park with a few adjustments... or just bring back the good food and limit the amout of people allowed in the park... then I'll be happy:)

What's going to "save" DCA is the abandonment of this quest to "save" DCA. DCA is a park in its infancy & it should be treated as such. It is any number of attractions/add-ons/refurbs/re-do's/placemaking's away from being a complete, seperate, alternative gate to Disneyland. Although the ticket system got a bit ahead of itself initially & created that notion too soon, that is not what sits there now. If we're always looking around the corner trying to search out or judge each new addition as what's going to "save" DCA, we're never going to feel as if we've found the answer.

Well, like I said. If they had just left well enough alone, I would've been happy

I have been awaiting for MI to open, and by the looks of it from the video, I'm very disapointed by the final outcome. It goes way to fast for one. Another is that the animatronics, with all the technology they have now, didn't really move or anything, which is another disapointment.

I'm not saying I don't LIKE the ride, but I think they could have done better. For instance, like what I stated in a thread I started a while back, putting in the Great Movie Ride would have been better in my opnion.

It really doesn't go that much faster than any of the Fantasyland rides. Maybe it just seemed fast from the video because there are things to look at on both sides of the ride vehicle, so protostars had to switch back and forth to get everything on camera.

I was also a little disappointed by the fact that the animatronics don't really move much. If anyone has ever seen the animatronics at Disneyland Tokyo, you'll know how amazing they are. Disneyland Tokyo has been around for a while, so it's not like the technology is that new or inaccessible. It's a little disappointing that they didn't utilize the technology.

Even though there are tons of things that could have been improved on the ride, I thought it was absolutely adorable and I'm glad they put it in!
