Default DCA's water screens

Did DCA ever have a show with water screens like Fantasmic! has?

I don't think so, BUT...

That would be an awesome idea to attract more guests into the park!!!

You might be thinking of LuminAria, where fireworks actually shot out of the bay. While that sounds cool... it actually felt more like a warzone. The fireworks were awfully low, kids were terrified, smoke usually overtook the park, and fire code required that all paradise pier attractions be shut down for it. It only ran for one year.

I was hoping they would tweak it, modify it, and improve upon it, but i guess it wasnt to bee.

I think they should create a show for DCA but I don't think it shoudl be ANYTHING like Fantasmic! People will just dislike it automatically if it's too similar to Fantasmic! and it'll get a bad name. I think mist screens would be as far as they could go. The original show sounds kinda cool. I didn't even know they ever had one.

Just searched for LuminAria and found some cool pics. Just wondering now... were the screens that can bee seen in this pic (http://www.laughingplace.com/files/D.../big/P09-4.jpg) there all the time or did they magically appear before the show started much like a lot of the Fantasmic! stuff does?! Got me intrigued. Looks like they're barges so I'm guessing they were taken out onto the water before or during the show?!

Pity they got rid of it though. It'd be lovely to stand around the Bay and watch a show like that. Maybe one day....

trust me it was lovely, but not that lovely with all the smoke. plus the best part of paradise pier was the darkness surrounded by all these glowing rides, but they all had to be turned off for this show. i think a water show, much like the Fountain of Nations in EPCOT or the water show like at Bilagio would do the best. set to music of course

The screens you see in that picture did not magically appear, as far as my memory serves me correctly... instead they were simply towed out to position 2 hours prior to show. Some of the pictures you see on them were drawn by children who visited the park that day.

Can we all agree that Paradise Bay is just beckoning for a show of some sort?? LuminAria proved it could be done. I think they would have a hit if they could avoid the following problems...

1. Keep Paradise Pier completely open. Im sure they could find a way to keep attractions open while dimming some of the regular lights for the show.

2. Use less intrusive fireworks. Lets face it, its not a nighttime disney spectacular without at least a lil bang here and there. But perhaps they could modify the noise factor, so it wouldnt be blasting out people's eardrums. Also, they need to work on better smoke-less firepower.

3. Avoid Pixar. hehe, well that speaks for itself.

Thanks for explaining that. As I said I thought they looked like barges but I didn't know whether they were launched during the show (in darkness) and then lit up (to give the effect that thet have just magically appeared) or whether they were there all the time or whatever.

As for a show... what about a show that encorporates the PP rides?! That way the lights on the rides could stay on. Like they could have a Screamin' segment when the lights on Screamin' go crazy whilst most of the others are off. Or they could all just work with the music and create some sort of light show. I wouldn't mind seeing something like that.

And as for the smoke everyone keeps mentioning... I definitely think that Disney would have to work on making it a bit more audience friendly. Never saw it but from the stories sounds like it wouldn't of been much fun.

They were giant T.V. screens that were diguised as Christmas presents. During the "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" sequence, one end would rise up and reveal a screen.

They do need to have a show on the water again. They should have paddle boats you can rent during the day like they do at some of the harbors here in SoCal and then close it for a water and light show at night. They used to have paddle boats for rent at the Disneyland Hotel before the change.

Wow, I can't believe I've never heard of this show! Then again, I didn't see the need to spend money on DCA because I had heard a lot of negative comments from friends. I don't think I went to DCA until after it had already been operating for a few years...

Actually, in Paradise Pier under the walkway, I saw some boats. I'm not sure what they're actually used for, but when I saw them I thought "Man, it'd be cool if they had more of those and could take people out on the water with them!"

I believe those boats are used for water clean up and emergencies.
