What do the crowns on the castle represent?

I read the information on the official Disneyland website about the crowns. I think it's a cool bit of information to know! I like to give my non-Disneyland-obsessed friends a "tour" when we go. I'm like, "And if you come this way, you can see that the castle is adorned with five golden crowns..." I love to tell people information like that, if they don't already know about it!

It's pretty interesting. I can't wait to go back to the Magic Kingdom. Once I'm there, I will check out the detail.

Interested to see if the CM I talked to was pulling my leg about the real gold on the crowns, I shot an email to the DLR and just got a response:

Dear Crystal,

Thank you for your e-mail to the Disneyland Resort.

You will be pleased to know that the crowns on our Sleeping Beauty Castle is of
24-K Gold.

Again, thank you for taking the time to write. We hope you will have the
opportunity to visit the

Although, they did not answer about the gemstones, I'm glad that they did answer about the gold. That makes me feel better that the nice CM I met was not completly lying to me. Anyways, thought you would all like to know

The crowns could be painted with a gold leaf; that makes some sense and would not be cost prohibitive. That is a nice touch on their part.

I never get a straight answer from guest relations....
they are mostly just blowing smoke....
so I would take
this letter with a big grain of salt.

24-K gold leaf was used on the golden ride vehicles, so I see no reason why the crowns wouldn't be gold leaf as well. They didn't answer the gemstones question at all because they don't want to "spoil the magic" by telling you they're plastic (acrylic I think). That's also why they left off the word leaf when they confirmed the bit about the 24-K gold...
By the way, all the finials on it's a small world are gold leaf also.
