Also if you do do this, backup your hard drive!! If you don't have an external burn a whole lot of DVD's or find a friend that has an external hard drive, or go buy one for 70 bucks.

k I"m a little behind on posting, but I have a visiual I have to share haha
So you go down the big drop and lose control of the laptop. It flys waaaaaaay up in the air, and then starts to plummet back down just in time to land in the lap of a person in the next log. SCORE! New laptop! Finders keepers haha.
I think this is a scary idea. Not only becuase you risk losing the computer and it's contents, but because it is a safety issues. Seriously, if you lost control of the thing and it flew back and hit the face of the person behind you... bad news. I have a cannon powershot and I've taken videos of lots of rides that have turned out really well. Even the sound. Just buy a camera with a mic on the front and you're good to go. You're tempting fate WAY too much here.

Yeah DV, I gotta agree with everyone here; its a bad idea. A laptop camera is suitable for videoconferencing, but its not built to work in that kind of environment. Even if you are able to protect the laptop, there's so much moisture in there that you're either going to fog up the lens or you're going to get condensation in the laptop itself which is really bad for it. At least with a camcornder you can usually strap it to your wrist and you can usually cover all the vulnerable surfaces, but how are you going to successfully hold a laptop still during that ride?

Personally I'd avoid bringing the laptop in the park itself. It can get easily stolen, damaged, wet, carried off by a feral cat, etc.

Question Um... I don't understand

What I am trying to figure out is why you wouldn't just borrow a friend's camcorder, or buy one.

Laptops are not made for in-motion decent-resolution on-location video shooting... camcorders are. And with a camcorder, you just push one button and it's shooting, and then you're done with it.

Are you wanting to do this because you just got a new laptop and can't part with it for 15 minutes? Because if that's the case, I understand because I, too, love shiny new computer gear. However, shooting video should be done with a video camera, and editing/sharing of that video should be done with your computer...

Two things could happen with this game plan:
1) you get bad video, or
2) You destroy your laptop by getting it wet, slamming it into a ride vehicle, opening the lid too far and breaking the hinge, dropping it, dunking it, sitting on it, having it fly out of the ride vehicle, etc....

Is it going to be your birthday soon, by any chance? Ask for a and a camcorder!

Default Okay... I get it lol

I just read the original post.

This has GOT to be a joke post. Nobody would ever take a brand-new laptop onto SPLASH MOUNTAIN to try to get VIDEO FOOTAGE, lol!

Good one.

How is that you'll get more wet in the mornings or when the ride has just continued?
