Default Space Mountain breaking down

Yesterday me, my brother and a few friends went to Disneyland (for free :D). We were waiting in line for Space mountain and when we got to the end of the old hallway we heard that the ride broke down followed by the work lights kicking on. It was down for about 10 minutes, maybe 15. Just before the park was closing (an hour or less) Space Mountain was down again roughly the same length of time. Does anyone know what was going on with Space Mountain last night? 4/28

Most common reason for Space breaking down is a delay in dispatching a rocket out of load/unload. If it takes too long, the ride will shut itself down for safety purposes. A short time to come back online is a good indication that that was the reason.

I thought one of the reasons they did the huge rebuild was to stop that from happening?

For the most part,no. The real reason is that during a morning routine check up, mechanics found cracks in the track...a derailment waiting to happen. Hence the ride being closed for a couple of years and the entire track being replaced. Any ride you go on does the same thing. Indy, Matterhorn, Roger Rabbit. All those rides must be dispatched in a certain amount of time or else a potentially dangerous back up may happen when all block brakes have been used which is why the ride shuts itself down. PHEW

I have a question about break downs? The CM's that guard the entrance when the ride is broken. Do they really know what's going on inside the ride? Or are they just as clueless as we are?

So... can any CM's that are on here clear this up? If you are allowed.

^Well they know its closed thus the reason they won't let you in! Anytime a ride is closed they don't know why. Sometimes the mechanics fixing it don't know why. And if there are mechainics, its usually not a dispatch issue, because the CM's probably know how to restart the ride systems. They tell cm's what the problem is so they know how approximately how long it will be down, so people know when to come back. If it is a dispatch probably, it usually is 15-30 minutes until its back up, now BTMRR is a whole different story. I don't think they ever have problems with dispatch, but sometimes the lift hills break down. Whenever BTMRR is broken down i can see a train with people stuck on the 2nd lift (the one with the goat and the dynamite) and in that case its usually closed for a few hours. As for SM it usually has a few closures per day, but there short.

CMs are told not to tell guests any reason for breakdown or any timetable for reopening.

^hmm, because we asked CM's at BTMRR how long till it re-opened, they said it may open in 2 hours but it was just a guess.

That doesn't mean all CMs necessarily follow it or are even aware that guessing like that isn't good.

^ Yeah, that kinda shows why they aren't supposed to say anything. They'll say 'ride opens in 10 minutes' ... 10 minutes later 'ride will open in 10 minutes folks, thanks for your patience' ... 10 minutes later 'we'll have the ride open very soon' ...

Well its almost impossible to do, as they check your restraints, and they are locked as soon as you leave the boarding platform, plus its kinda hard to stand with all the G- forces pushing you down.
