Question Small World Ceiling question... Again lol

So, the one thing that always got to me on IASW was that awful, modular, office-building ceiling that they had in there.... the ride is so awesome, then you'd look up and feel like you're back in your cubicle at work. It was so theme-breaking, and it really looked like a cheap, cost-cutting reature to the ride.

HOWEVER, I have heard rumors that in the rehab that is being done, they have FIXED THE CEILING! Please, please, please, someone who has some inside information please confirm this rumor! I will absolutely love seeing this ride in the way that it should have been all along, and will go on it over and over again. I might even have to take a trip just to see it after re-opening!

Thanks,

Mighty

Haunted Mansion also has this ceiling in many places. I have no clue, it is a possibility, but one reason why they use it is because it makes running wires, and stringing up things to the ceiling so much easier. It saves them a lot of work during the Holidays.

While Haunted Mansion may have that ceiling, it does somewhat mix with the theme. Everything in there is supposed to be 'dead'. In small world everything is filled with life, and then there would be the ugly ceiling. Hopefully they have done something to it.

Angry What???

Haunted Mansion has that awful ceiling, too? I am serious, I had never noticed it on that attraction before!

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!!! YOU HAVE REVEALED IT TO ME! Oh, NNNOOOOOOOOooooooo......

Now I'll have to fight to not look up during my next ride on the attraction. Oh, my goodness... Oh, my (gasping for breath)...

And who cares if it's a little extra work? Isn't that what it takes to make it a MAGICAL experience? What are they going to do next, put up horrible painted plywood facades for new rides like they had at Disney World a long time ago because it's cheaper and easier to do?

I am not really freaking out that much, lol... I just think that Disneyland is a very, very special place, and that if they keep hacking away at that "extra mile" they go to make it special... you know the rest.

^^It's normally just in the attic, and when you look up in the black void of... whatever it is in the loading area. It's really hard to notice, though. But IASW... i hope they fix it!

Oh man, I hope they fix that ceiling, that was just awful, I mean seriously? But I am sorry, I don't have any info on the refurb, but I am sure there is a change that it might be fixed or changed at least.

OK I really don't see any way of changing it. Even if they change it to something else you will see that ceiling too. It is bright in there. It's not a dark ride. It's a bright ride. I find it no different than looking over the side of the boat and seeing the pipes and concrete floor that is there. You can see past all the stuff on that ride which is far more distracting than a ceiling.

If I was an imagineer, I'd be wondering why you're looking up at the ceiling in the first place. There's nothing that I, as an imagineer, want you to see up there. I want you to see all the happiness in Small World and all the spookiness around you in Mansion. Look at what I've built for you, not at the ceiling!

^ To be fair, the only reason I noticed it on IASW was because of the figurines floating around near the ceiling. The actual ride itself drew my eyes towards the ceiling. I never set out to pick apart the ride; however, my eyes were drawn toward the much hated cieling due to the dolls.

Could it be that the ceiling is practical and logical? After all, it isn't the focus of the attraction. It may not be beautiful but it is painted black, kept in the dark, and out of immediate view.

That's exactly the same way that I noticed it. The point is, it shouldn't be such a glaring, theme-breaking oversight. I think that with some better lighting, better covering, projections, etc, it would be perfect!

The way they make the ceiling and walls look like a horizon and sky in Pirates, etc... now, that's creativity. Rattle-canning the modular, acoustic-tile office ceiling isn't exactly what I'd call classy or imaginative, and that's what I would expect from Disney. It's more cheap and lazy...

The ceiling is that way because it's practical and easy to fix things behind the scenes without interrupting the show. Also, for IASW, as the show was meant to be temporary (originally), it was easy to set up and tear down.
