Angry Shouldn't Disneyland be called the Magic Kingdom?

I mean I don't think its really fair they had to call WDW's Disneyland park the Magic Kingdom. I know that Disneyland Resort is the original Magic Kingdom but I think it should be called that. *Dreams of Monorail: "Thank you for traveling on the Disneyland Monorail, and have a fantastic day at Walt Disney's original Magic Kingdom."*

I agree -- I have always considered Dl "the Magic Kingdom". When I hear WDW referred to as such, something in my head screams "no -- we're the REAL Magic Kingdom!"

Default disneyland as the "Magic Kingdom"

i totally agree!!! This is a big deal to me. I was so upset when, during the 50th anniversary, the majority of commercials and publicity went to disneyworld! Did anyone else notice that? Lets not forget the place where the magic began

Yes, I agree.
It has constantly pestered me every time I heard "The Magic Kingdom" on tv, only to see that the advertisement was for WDW.

That use to irritate me as well, and when the 50th Anniversary would be referred to as "50 Years of Theme Park Magic" with no mention of Disneyland

No kidding. You would have thought it was WDW's 50th birthday the way they had them celebrate it! Sheesh.

Although, I still hear DLR referred to as the Magic Kingdom. I always notice it when they say it just before the train takes off from the station.

But I see whatchya all mean. WDW seems to overshadow DLR a LOT.
Grrr... You're right, we're the original!

Ah well, let the crowds grow at the World that is Disney and we'll keep our "land".

Formal names for the respective parks are Disneyland Park and Magic Kingdom.

From the beginning what is now known as Disneyland Park always carried the minor tagline/nickname 'Walt Disney's Magic Kingdom'. When plans for WDW were being drawn up, they had to name that park something. Couldn't name it 'Disneyland' after all. (The folks who named Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, and Hong Kong Disneyland would later think otherwise.) So the title 'Magic Kingdom' was appropriate since it was Disneyland's virtual other name.

Had Magic Kingdom been built 20 years later than it had been, you would have seen it called "Disneyland Florida" and "Walt Disney World" called "Disneyland Resort Florida". It's a rather dismal sign of uncreative corporate branding with 'Disneyland' being everywhere. Walt knew this and he didn't want it, so the WDW Resort parks all had unique names. It's just a shame that current leadership went against that and renamed the worldwide parks '_____ Disneyland______'.

I agree it's lead to confusion, and I also think it's silly having Disneyland Resort and Disneyland Park with nearly identical logos. But, it is what it is, and the best we can hope to be is not confused by it all!

I dissagree. I think that the name Disneyland Park should stay Disneyland Park. Its OK if it keeps its nickname and all but it should not have its name changed. And Matt, I agree when you said that Disney now had uncreative corporate branding. Look at what Disney is giving to DLR's Monorail. They are going to call it a "Resort Line". How uncreative.

Well there has been talk of altering its layout to be similar to Tokyo's layout, and so having a name very close to Tokyo's monorail's name would make sense.

I am not sure about this. I think Disneyland Park should officialy be called Magic Kingdom because 1. Most people refer to it as that and 2.there are now 2 parks and the whole resort is called Disneyland. If DLP officialy got its name changed to Magic Kingdom there would be less confusion.

Well, I guess its ok that DLR isn't called 'Magic Kingdom' but I mean why does Walt Disney World have to have all the good stuff? Including an apartment inside their castle!? I mean look at this: Tower of Terror the movie; based off of WDW's MGM Tower of Terror. The Haunted Mansion: The Movie; Based off of WDW's Haunted Mansion! IT SHOULD BE DLR'S MANSION!!!

DCA's Tower was built about 7 years after the Tower of Terror movie came out on DVD. Haunted Mansion movie's Mansion was a compliation of all the Mansion's from all the parks since each park had one at the time.

Ugh! All you do is complain about WDW! G-E-T O-V-E-R I-T!

How do you think us Floridians feel when you get new things?!?! We don't have DCA and we never will, you also have the original park, with more stuff!

Quit complaining, and be thankful nobody has turned DLR into a parking lot.
