Thumbs up Scary Fantasyland (merged)

I don't know if anyone has noticed, but the fantasyland rides don't seem like they are for children. For example, you take a trip to hell, you get SCARED to death on Snow White (I did) and you almost get eaten by a whale. THe other rides or okay, but what was Walt thinking when he designed these rides? lol

well, the name is not "Kidland", thats what toontowns for. Its fantasyland, and therefore is based on books and movies that spark the imagination and fantasies. Some of the rides are a bit scary, but most people come out fine. My little bro is 6 and he doesnt find them scary.

I agree with you on that. When I was little, Mr. Toad scared me so much. So did Snow White. I also fail to see the point in making these rides so scary.

The part in Snow White where you go through the spooky forest and all of the trees have evil faces, that always creeps me out.

The attractions are based on the movies. Fantasyland is a chance for kids of all ages to see their favorite characters up close. If they are familiar with the movie and it doesn't bother them, they should be OK with the attraction. If the movie bothers them, stay away from that attraction.

The funny thing is when I was little, I really didn't get scared in Fantasyland but if I got too scared, I just closed my eyes or hide under my jacket. I go on those rides now and can't believe that I didn't freak out on Snow White, Pinochio, or Mr. Toad's. Now that I think about, what really scared me was when you could walk through the castle, it was creepy if no one was in there at night and you were all by yourself.

Yeah, Mr. Toad was a little too much for me. My parents went on the mover behind me and I was by myself when I was little (8)... I haven't gone on it since. Although, I plan to try it again this next trip :)

I gotta say that everything about Fantasyland seems to be psychedelically enduced. From the very name of the land to all the mushrooms that are so prodominant. As a child it just seemed like a bunch of silly cartoon stuff. But as an adult and having been there many times in an altered state of mind, Fantasyland is definately more of an adult dreamland. It's certainly not a land geared for children and goes a lot deeper than what is seen on the surface. You are, in every way, encapsulated in the Walt's dreams while in Fantasyland.

You know, we are putting way too much emphasis and concern nowadays on what our children can and cannot take. Walt knew exactly what he was doing and look at them now. Still there and drawing more people. To me it seems we are expecting some carefree life is peachy attitude for kids and they shouldn't see scary or remotely scary things. Hiding any of that from a kid is just as devestating. How else are they gonna learn about life? Life is not easy and can be pretty brutal. But it can also be the most beautiful thing out there. When I was little I was not even scared of those rides, I was however scared of Space MOuntain. Funny huh? But not the other rollercoasters. Those stories have morals to them. I think kids need to read the Brother's Grimm books and other fairy tales as they were. Scary yes, beautiful yes but had strong morals to them.
